@Dave-ur5ub2 жыл бұрын
Bro,if you see this...That's the reason I'm jumping on this comment to start with...You should build a set of wheels that fold down on either side of the very back of the trailer that will drop down from the frame that will lock in place about an inch off of the ground when lowered..This will prevent the back of the trailer from dragging when the main axles lift off of the ground due to the terrain....That's what I did and they work great...I actually put a third axle that swings up and down and locks in place either up or down on my ATV trailer..The rear tires are actually a little shorter than the main two axles tires are...Which is basically a 16 ft all steel car trailer that's been converted. EDIT: I also used a piece of 1/4 inch steel as a rock slider/skid plate for the back behind the main rear axle wheels and on the front frame of the trailer where the tongue and all are for when the trucks going up but the trailers still at the bottom of a groove going down.

Yea but money over brains with that 60k jeep plus 20k of add ons and he broke it only because he doesn't know how to offroad. Nowadays with youtube & websites he should of spent a few days researching how to offroad and what not to do. #1 had front locker off, #2 allowed front axle to hop (he had said both of these) and #3 (unconfirmed but likely) had the wheel at a high degree of angle. With stock axles/etc it is a big no-no to do #2 OR #3 at WOT either will cause this problem of broken axle or knuckle or similar part. Heck even over built cars you can but should avoid doing this - axle hop and you should stop and re-plan your line and if you need WOT and dont have axle hope you have to reduce max power depending the angle of your wheels (slight turn maybe 80% of WOT, if you have the wheels fully turn then maybe 30% of WOT. So I find it dumb to do this since he is 'new' as he said and didn't do basic research. However he did say he had a diesel which there might not be a ton of info that explains since they make power so low in the rpm range (tq not hp) you have to even be more careful of axle hope and turning to power level. Either way, end of the day he has money and isn't worried about stuff like that which means he can afford not to care or do research which I can respect.

@@JohnAdams-qc2ju We all probably look at these videos and initially think "man, look at that expensive truck, getting stuck in the mud/snow , or busting something. And we're sitting watching it at home on KZbin. They might not have the experience or technical knowledge that a lot of commenters do ( by the sounds of it you are very knowledgeable about the subject , which I respect ) , but they are out there doing something , and learning from their mistakes. This guy might maybe get a different vehicle next time, or do some research before doing a similar thing again. Listening to the trailer scraping over all those rocks was pretty rough. Since the wrecker is a work in progress, ever consider upgrading the trailer suspension and putting taller tires on it for more ground clearance? Obviously it would require some modifications on the trailer too unless you just want to wait for the wrecker. That was one heck of a recovery with lots of finesse to manipulate it out of there, but it worked, you got 'em out. Really good video coverage to this recovery also.

Hell of a recovery. Great job! With or without a wrecker I think you shold add an off road trailer to your arsenal. One with over sized off road tires, that sits high above the ground and a couple of winches on it. With ramps that fold up, so it won't hit everything when you're heading out.
@dartmoordave2 жыл бұрын
Gotta watch a high C of G though, theres a bit of a trade off so it doesn't roll over too easy when loaded. He's got to get through that tunnel as well.
@aphextwin57122 жыл бұрын
There is a trade-off with this as well. A taller trailer with longer ramps is likely going to be a bit wider and longer which can make manoeuvring it more difficult. And it also will be a bit heavier; seeing how much they struggled getting up that hill, extra weight is a factor they have to consider.

Matt and Rudy's jeeps are the only jeeps I haven't seen the front wheels fall off

that looked like a repair in place type of job. That was one really tricked out Rubi, I hope that knuckle had a lifetime warranty!!! Can't wait for the next wrecker fabrication vid.

Hey Matt I am a 70 year old fabricator and a suggestion I have to help save your trailer we did in the past was put 6 inch steel caster wheels welded on the end of the trailer which allows it to roll over instead of being dragged .Hope that will help you.

Seeing that loose wheel roll down brought back memories from years ago. Working at an apple packing shed. Off season. Next to a busy road, My truck was parked inside the warehouse. A truck driving past had a dually wheel sheer off. It spun straight through the warehouse door and crunched my truck. 1 in a million.....

This is why I'm gusing up my JT front and rear axels and knuckles. Running big meat(38's) will beat your stuff up. Great video. Glad to see Ed. Thank you for your time.

I love the how they use a normal hitch. Lots of special off-road hitches out there I feel these videos prove they are not needed.

One amazing recovery! These new wranglers are basically junk! All those extra gadgets and still break. You guys need that off road wrecker ASAP!

Good illustration indeed Matt! It looked like you had 2 remote control toy cars trying to pull a full size jeep parked on a shovel in the sand! Placement of the Jeep on trailer was one of the finest tow/rescue work i have seen!!!
