@reuben2002
@reuben2002 2 жыл бұрын
They don't mention the costs for many reasons, there is a video a couple years ago that he discusses why. If you figure the rigs are at least $100/hour, a recovery like this with multiple rigs taking a few hours you can start to get the picture. It also varies if it is just a matter of getting back to tarmac, or all the way back into town.

I used to Jeep a ton in Moab and St George and I always knew in the back of my mind that I was driving $50,000 around and that it could be wiped away at any wrong move. We worry primarily about rolling, and so anything less than that is happy bad fortune. Busted engine, busted knuckle (which happens to this Jeep months later), etc, those are affordable fixes and the $1000 it might take to recover the vehicle is just part of the cost of having fun.

Isnt that like all the profit right there or is the profit on this recoveries more than I think? Paying Rudy, and Lizzie, camera people are another business, Matt's expenses and time, Fab Rats' involvement and expenses, this kind of recovery could easily be worth more than a cheap junker's book value just lost in the woods, but that profit would only be a couple replacement hoods worth, right? so one hood could be 30%-50% of the profit gone right there if it indeed needs to be fully replaced. Or does Matt's insurance take care of the hood? How does it work?

@@paddington1670 I had a friend stuck in the mud, in the woods, once. The truck driver was responsible for ZERO damage from the recovery is what he had to sign. I would think it would be the same for a recovery this far back in such a bad location. You hire the people with the best Reputation and trust they will find a way to get it out with no or minimal damage. The hood can be banged back out so it mostly won't look too bad. I can't imagine Matt would be liable but not sure how he does it or what Utah law is. I am in SC. My buddy had some other 4x4 ers try to help first. They ripped his front bumper off. The recovery cost $250 if I remember it correctly but we were only 1/2 mile off a main road, just very stuck. 4 Wheel drive but no lockers, in deep mud. I warned him, he drove there anyway.

@@batsonelectronics this was avoidable damage though, the wrecker arm had farther to raise and wouldnt have hit if it were raised to capacity, not to blame them, im sure id make the same mistake but still as the vehicle owner i wouldnt be impressed with that damage if my bill didnt reflect it.. would i want a new hood no.. but a few hundred off the bill that im sure is close to or over 4 figures yes some damage is unavoidable, like if a honda civic is at the bottom of a canyon with every route having rutts and rocks thatll rip its bumpers apart its kinda too late.. but then again thats what trailers are for

Exactly! Given the location it broke down, the owner of the Jeep likely understands that time is the enemy. A great result getting it out with only a tiny bit of damage and A lot of talent to do that! So many great people in the offroad community, but there's a percentage that are vultures! And that's why it's best to get a stricken rig out as quick as possible. (Think - Geo episode) I can't count how many times I've been helped and helped others when stuck, but thankfully only one bad incident... I had a lovely 1980s Honda Big Red stuck in waist deep silt on MY property and someone in a hefty 4x4 saw it from the road, drove down to it, got it out and disappeared. Oh well, that's how life goes.
