I've got an unconventional ruling question. I play Yugioh under Battle Pack 3: Monster League rules, which state that monsters are all types at all times, no matter where they are. I control 1 monster, have no cards in grave, and only have both Sirenorca and Beast Machine King Barbaros Ür in my hand. Which of these monsters in my hand am I allowed to Special Summon? Relevant text from Sirenorca: "If you control both Fish and Winged Beast-Type monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand)." Relevant text from Barbaros: "You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 Machine-Type monster and 1 Beast-Warrior-Type monster from your hand, field, and/or Graveyard." If you want my thought process, I believe that Barbaros requires that you banish two separate monsters because of the way that it essentially says "...by banishing 1 monster and 1 monster...", which would simplify to "2 monsters". In Sirenorca's case, however, it just asks that you control two different types, which a single monster is able to fulfill under Battle Pack 3 rules. The question is whether the text "monsters" is significant, since most card effects will write it as "monster(s)" if the minimum is 1, or if the card is only looking for both types to be on your field. I posted this on your previous video, so I'm sorry if you've seen it and are annoyed by the duplicate question. This'll be the last time I post it. Thanks for making these videos, they're fun to watch!

my guess is you can banish just the monster on field as it treated as both the required types and thus the cost is paid? idk it reminds me of the barrier statues where if you have two different attribute ones up you can't special summon anything, but if you hypothetically had a monster with 2 different attributes it could technically be summoned.

Since it's not a real format my best guess is Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan rulings, which can be used even when one monster fulfills all the Attribute requirements. The only difference is "monsters" vs. "monster(s)", but that's because, unlike Attributes, I don't believe we currently have a way to have a multi-Type creature? But we have many cards that can be multi-Attribute. My guess is is that if they made multi-Type a possibility, Sirenorca would read "monster(s)" for clarity, without really changing how it works, but it is a guess.

Hi coder, I have a question: I have a Kairyu-Shin:Leviathan, Legendary Ocean, and a Sea Stealth attack set. My opponent activates twin twisters in their standby targeting the field spell and the set sea stealth. I flip sea stealth, but why can I not chain its effect to protect face up spells and traps by banishing the Kairyu-Shin?

Q: When "Sea Stealth Attack" is activated, is it possible to also activate its effect by banishing a face-up WATER monster until the End Phase, as part of the same Chain Link? A: The "●" effects of "Sea Stealth Attack" that it gains while "Umi" is on the field are effects that can only be activated after the card itself has successfully resolved. Therefore, you cannot activate them in the same Chain as the initial activation of "Sea Stealth Attack". This is from the ruling database.

Hey Coder, if I have branded regained on the field along with crystal wing synchro dragon and a bystial in the grave, if my opponent normal summons elemental hero stratos and attempts to use it's effect, how come I cannot both negate it's effect with crystal wing and special summon a bystial? Since stratos is CL1 in response to the summon, crystal wing can be CL2 in response to the effect, why can't I activate regaineds effect as CL3 similar to how torrential tribute could be used at any point in the chain?

Hi, Royal decree reads “negate all other trap effects on the field” When you activate a trap, even from the hand like “evenly matched”, that trap will resolve on the field. Even if you were to mst the evenly matched it would still fully resolve on the field. And since Royal Decree negates all traps on the field it would still negate evenly matched.

No. Even though Evenly Matched is now in the Graveyard, its effect was activated on the field and the effect will resolve there, and Royal Decree negates all Trap Effects that occur on the Field. Effects do not change where they were activated/resolved, even if the card that created the effect changes zones. For example, Ash Blossom and Joyous Springs is an effect from the hand as that's where you activate its effect, even though you send it to the GY to activate the effect.

That ruling is for cards that met the activation conditions in the middle of a chain forming or resolving, and have to "wait" for the current chain to resolve in order to activate. The big example is tributing Benten for a Drytron effect: it cannot activate until the current chain is resolved even though it met the condition from the Drytron effect's cost, so if D.D. Crow is chained to the Drytron effect to banish Benten in response, the chain is Drytron CL1, D.D. Crow CL2. You resolve the current chain, then because Benten is no long in the graveyard (where it was initally sent when tributed) Benten does not get to activate AT ALL. In this case Evenly Matched has ALREADY activated and is CL1, with Royal Decree being CL2 and Forbidden Droplet being CL3, so the above ruling (obviously) does not apply here (only Continuous Spells/Traps and Field Spells resolve without effect if removed from the field after activation but before resolution of their effect).

Can somebody explain when a pendulum monster goes in the extra deck and when it goes in the GY? My understanding of this is that it goes in the GY if it's discarded from the hand (or sent from the deck, for example with a Foolish Burial), if it's milled etc. and goes to the extra deck if it gets destroyed by battle or card effect or used as link/synchro material, or is detached as XYZ material. But what about something that sends to the GY, like Eldlich? Would it go to the GY because the effect says that it goes to the GY or will it go to the extra deck because that property overrides the effect?

I love those videos since I like using them as a quiz for myself; this time I was wrong on 2 of them: I thought that DPE, since it resolves in the standby phase, acted as mystic mine does, so, during the end phase, you can choose when you want to let it check if both players have the same number of monsters or not, all of this before the opponent has a chance to activate anything; but I suppose that since CBTG is a quick effect, you can activate it at the start of the standby phase, before any effect that should resolve in that phase does resolve; also I didn't understood that two portions of an effect are obviously the same exact effect, so ash negates both of them (but that makes so much sense for me now)

The reason I believe they could activate CBTG before DPE resolved is because they are the turn player. The turn player has priority the activate or resolve an effect before the non-turn player. Say if it was the DPE player’s turn and standby phase. They would be able to resolve their DPE before the opponent can do anything (they can’t chain the CBTG because you cannot activate cards or effects when one is already resolving) As for the ash negating the Ashuna, ash says negate the effect. Meaning the entire effect. As long as part of the effect falls into one of ash’s categories of effects it can negate, you can chain ash to negate that entire effect. Hope this helps. Edit: Being a Yugioh Player I didn’t properly read that last part of your comment where you said you understand the ash vs Ashuda ruling. Please disregard my second paragraph lol

Why magical meltdown or branded loss don't prevent fusion cards effects to be negated by Ash but altergeist protocol does prevent altergeist effects to be negated when skull drain is face up on the field?

Because both meltdown and loss prevent the ACTIVATION from being negated as opposed to protocol which prevents the effects in general from being negated. Ash blossom negates the effect not the activation. Honestly most ruling questions can be unswered simply by reading the cards sigh.

Hello Coder. I have a question about a ruling which came up recently at our locals. Its about Cyberdark End Dragon and Shaddoll Schism. The text of Cyberdark End Dragon states " Unaffected by your opponent's activated effects". Because it says "activated effects", does the effect of Shaddoll Schism to send 1 monster your opponent controls with the same attribute as that fusion summoned monster, count as an activated effect therefore Cyberdark End is unaffected or it doesnt count as one and it can send it to GY? D/D/D Headhunt: if you control a d/d/d monster: target 1 face up monster your opponent controls; take control of it until the end phase of the next turn, BUT ITS EFFECTS ARE NEGATED… D/D/D Headhunt vs a monster activating its trigger effect Chain link 1. Headhunt takes a monster and THEN negates it’s effects. Example: Aleister the invoker attempts to add invocation but control is switched then it’s effects are negated. When control of a monster is changed is it still considered the same card? My confusion stems from the “effects always resolve where they are activated” and the aleister no longer being controlled and THEN having its effects negated. Sorry if I’m complicating this I just want clarification as I couldn’t find many quick effects that take then negate, and I was looking for a precedent that doesn’t seem to exist.

(Once per turn, during your next Standby Phase after this card was banished: You can Special Summon this banished card, then if "Numeron Network" is in your Field Zone, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the combined ATK of all banished Xyz Monsters. ) Relevant part: I know the summon goes through 100%, but does the damage? I think it does, but am not sure.

Unfortunately no, 'cause of the "then" conjunction you have to fully resolve part A (send 1 PK monster to the grave) to do part B (set 1 PK spell/trap). You can activate Bardiche but the PK monster will be banished and you cannot set any PK spell/trap.

While Piri Reis Map says you can't activate the effects of cards with the same name as the monster added, placing the card in the pendulum zone or using it as scale to perform a pendulum summon are not card effects, they are game mechanics. The only thing that would be restricted is the use of Steelen's pendulum effect until the end of the next turn or until you normal summon another copy of Steelen.

I have an odd ruling that if anyone could answer, I would greatly appreciate it: Player A has activated and successfully resolved Pot of Prosperity earlier during their turn. Player A summons Number 75: Bamboozling Gossip Shadow in the same turn they activated Pot of Prosperity. What happens with the ATK-boosts if you Summon "Starving Venom Fusion Dragon" and Target "Dogmatika Fleurdelis" on the Field on summon and then activate Dragon-effect and target "Fleurdelis" again for Name and effect? Then in Battlephase you attack with fake-"Fleurdelis" and declare effect to boost itself and maybe others. The 2500 ATK boost goes away in the End Phase, but what happens to the 500 ATK boost for Dogmatikas? Thx

Hey Coder, my friend and I were not sure how the order of effects that were activated on a summon would resolve. I have Revolving Switchyard on the field and I activate urgent schedule to summon Infinitrack Harvester and Super Express Bullet Train. My opponent wanted to activate Traptrix Rafflesia to copy the effect of Floodgate Trap Hole in response to the urgent schedule summon. Would he be able to do this and flip my two monsters? Or would he have to respond to the summon from Revolving Switchyard when it summons a lvl 4 from the deck?

Gren Maju is on the field with 10 cards banished, my opponent summons Utopia Beyond making its attack zero. What happens with Maju's attack if I banish something? At my locals it was ruled that Maju's attack will stay 0 even after I banish more cards despite its effect not being negated or anything.

Hi Coder, quick question to get a second opinion on that : I control a Number 60 : Dugares the Timeless and activate the effect, declaring my intention to skip the next Battle Phase and double one of my monsters attack, (in this specific case it was Ultimate Conductor Tyranno, not that it matters much). On activation of Dugares, my opponent decides to use Infinite Impermanence, negating Dugares' effects, so no doubling atk, but what happens to the "Skip your next Battle Phase" part of the effect ? We agreed with my opponent to play as if the restriction applies, but I was told after the fact it actually doesn't. What is the correct answer ?

Question for coder! Say my opponent has a card that requires that you pay X00 life to activate an effect, such as Red-eyes flare metal or Masquerade the Blazing Dragon. I proceed to activate solemn judgement on a card later in the turn. Would I pay half before the burn damage of masquerade/flare metal effect to burn? Assuming I’m at full LP, am I at 3700 from masquerade or 3400 for example.

Chain link 1 is lil-la/ki-sikil. chain link 2 is opponent veiler/imperm/ash/other interupton. chain link 3 I chain enemy controller to tribute my ki-sikil/lil-la. take their monster. So when you chain either Veiler or Imperm, and after that you tribute it off with E-Con, Veiler/Imperm will lose its target so the Twin still resolves. Now with Ash Blossom, in every case the Twin will be *negated* because it does not work the same way as Veiler/Imperm.

Hey coder dumb question for the next, there's a new blackwing card coming out called Zonda the timely night that I'm a bit confused on. It's graveyard effect let's summon from hand or deck a level 5 or higher blackwing and the take damage equal to its atk. Hillen the tengu-wind is a level 5 that has 0 atk. Am I allowed to summon it since the atk isn't a ? or, is it more like pain lanius (cannot summon unless you take damage) and against the wind (cannot add from graveyardto hand unless you take damage)?

Evenly matched says “Your opponent banishes cards face-down”, and as such, the card itself is not removing the card from the field. In short: Evenly overrides the Flunder effects. Please don’t come at me in the comments; any card that says “your opponent” and has conflicting rulings is going to be confusing. I brought up this exact scenario and it was ruled Evenly overrides the Flunders; that’s why I’m posting this. The precedent Coder uses doesn’t say “your opponent,” whereas Evenly does.

Hey Coder, i have a question: My Opponent has Dragonmaid Sheou on the field and i have a set ice dragons Prison. I normal summon Fairytail - Luna, activate her Quick effect and target the Sheou to return to hand. My Opponent chains Sheous negation effect and i chain ice dragons prison as chain link 3 and target a dragon monster in his graveyard. How does this chain resolve? If i summon the dragonmonster and banhish both the dragon monster and sheou, does sheous negation still resolve and if so, does she still return to the extra deck from being banished and my opponent gets to summon a housemaid?

I do believe he will have 5600, because while he would lose any attack buffs from his own effects, since they are negated by chalice, your Magical knight of dragons will not lose the attack buff it recieved from spiral fusion, which makes it 5200, then the 400 from chalice for 5600

Kind of a question from a little while back but If I attack with Tiras, Keeper of Genesis and the opponent changes the battle position with a card like enemy controller/zero gravity Since I did declare an attack and the attack was not technecally negated Can I use the pop effect? Or does the the attack have to go through to count? In TCG, you are allowed to chain Eglen to Robina before your opponent chain Strike, but in OCG your opponent can chain Strike to Robina Btw, Strike doesn’t negate normal summons lmao

Hi Kevin, I have a ruling question. I have a face up "Black Whirlwind," on the field and my opponent activates "Mystical Space Typhoon." I then chain "Floowandereeze and the Dreaming Town," to immediately summon a Blackwing monster. Would "Black Whirlwind," activate on a new chain, meaning it is no longer on the field due to MST, or would it activate as chain Link 3 allowing me to add a Blackwing monster to my hand before it is destroyed by MST. The dreaming town states: “immediately after this effect resolves” and effects can not be activated as a chain is in process of resolving. Your example would be as follows: Dreaming town normal summon > mst pop. Note that black whirlwind states it activates “when” a black wing is normal summoned and not “if”, so if dreaming town is activated at any chain link other than chain link 1, black whirlwind will not be able trigger.
