On a tournament if you have a legal model that is outdated and it is not the silhouette of the new model, it is not legal. So practically this defiler is not legal, because it's silhouette is not the silhouette of a defiler. GW tourneys. GW rules.

For example, their Warhammer World pdf mentions using older models as being allowed so long as you use the correct basesize, even if the silhouette is different. I quote: "In some cases, you may need to be flexible with regards to line of sight and measuring if the current miniature is much larger than that which you are planning to use." This confirms that models of a different size and silhouette can indeed be used, as long as what it's supposed to be is clear (Which is a given in this case, there aren't a lot of big spiders running around in Chaos and it's a single model out of the whole army) and the base has the correct size. It also depends on the staff and how lenient they are, but from my experience they are way more likely to allow something that puts you at an disadvantage, which I think might be the case here, at least to my eye it seems slightly taller than a defiler.

@@balazszsigmond826 as someone who is literally friends with a warhammer store owner and regularly reads white dwarf, the silhouette rule is only for balance in tournament play outside of that there is loads of encouraging and featuring of kitbashed stuff as long as you only use GW parts and the store owner i know has literally told be before i can proxy/kitbash anything as long as i use GW product parts for it

You should check out the wikis! Most of what you'll see in Hired Gun is stuff specific to Necromunda, like the Great Houses, rather than stuff from the wider 40K universe like Chaos Space Marines, Orks, or the like. I'm sure there will be Chaos Daemons, mostly because Chaos is the "main" baddies of the setting.

Chimerarachne could be a nice name, it’s a name of a arachnid found in amber that looks like a spider with a tail, some people believe it’s a common ancestor between spiders and scorpions which could nicely highlight the spider features while also bringing attention to the tail the model has.

Call her "Ungoliant, The War-weaver" given the spider-like design you gave to the model. Ungoliant is the Dark Spider in Tolkien lore, a primordial force of evil that takes the form of a spider. She is the mother of Shelob the Great Spider, and the ally of Melkor, also known as Morgoth, the first Dark Lord. (Literally a mother of Chaos and evil!) Instead of weaving webs, she weaves destruction from her thorax with those bigs cannons. Also if you decide to make more than one model you can refer to them as " Spawns of Ungoliant" or just "War-weaver Defilers".

For actually fielding this horrifying beast, I suggest using the statblock for the Khorne Lord of Skulls with a skullhurler (for the big turret up top) and gorestorm cannon (for the two flamer-looking guns on its sides). I feel like it deserves better than just being equivalent to a Defiler.

Count yourself lucky. My scratch built Imperial Leviathan took the following. A Baneblade, 6 space marine Predators, 1 Whirlwind, the old Saint Celestine fig, and 2 of the old Imperial Sector kits (they were like the Forge World Battlefield without the ground plates). Then add a bunch of 5mm plywood. All totaled about $1000 in materials and 200+ hours of my time.
