5 months later, and I think it‘s important to acknowledge that: a) Chase Bliss have physically updated the pedal to address the BASS issue, and b) they have reduced latency with a firmware upgrade. Regarding a), there is a video by them where they show you how to do the modification yourself, or you can send yours in to have it modified by them at no extra cost except shipping. Regarding b), a little bit of latency will always be there, I mean it‘s a pedal messing with the fabric of time by slowing down tape - it can‘t see the future of what you‘re going to play, so it‘ll always lag a bit behind. That‘s just logical to me… Anyway, here is the video from CB: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIHYoIyYr7aebNU

Latency is fine, but doubling is a huge problem
@sunnyschramm9650 Жыл бұрын
the doubling is caused by the latency. sadly you loose other features and quality of some effects with the new ""OPTIONAL / ALTERNATIVE" firmware. they DONT updated the pedal for the bass in general - its a soldering and permanent modification you can do by yourself with soldering knowledge or sending it to chase bliss. So BOTH - firmware and bass-mod - are not meant to "fix" something - everything is how they want it to be...BUT they give you the option to change it to your needs - what is nice. @@henryhill92@archaeologis

It wouldn't be a perfect Saturday without your videos The phasing / comb filtering is part of the R2R and Tape flavor you'd get if you had a dry/wet mix due to the misalignment between the recording and the playback head "I guess", not 100% sure but still has a place, even on drums for fills (I already imagine a fill with just the top playing through Gen Loss doubling and Blooper lo-fi delay mode)... So, funnily enough, I purchased a Peak and I'm about to buy Blooper and Gen Loss mk2 thanks to you, gonna pair them with Modwave and Blofeld (sold Waldorf M and sent back Iridium, couldn't gel with them as hard as I tried), now I just need a solid drum machine / groovebox (in doubt between Roland and Elektron, Polyend Play seems cool but lacks a ton of features/workflow tools I'd love to have) and some punchy synth for bass lines 👀 On synths this pedal is completely a Boards of Canada playground, so damn dope, made my Shallow Water gas calm down (still want it of course, it's so damn liquid)... 14:05 was damn crazy not gonna lie 🤣 Always dead on the money with your videos and lighting improvements, felicitaciones por el nuevo trabajo hermano

It would be cool if that delay was optional, but it sounds like processing latency. I intentionally put delays like that in my production to make things more dirty, but it isn't always desirable for everyone and for everything. Pretty rad pedal overall.
@voxeljunk44532 жыл бұрын
4:20 in MISO mode the doubling is likely just part of how it achieves stereo. as to why it works even in bypass - the dip switches on a handful of Chase Bliss pedals apply settings even when the pedal is bypassed. Habit's Dry Kill, for example, makes Habit act more or less as a mute switch when off (which is very confusing if you're not expecting it). imo it wouldn't make sense for MISO mode to turn off when bypassing the pedal because then any stereo pedals further down the chain would suddenly only get mono input wherever you bypass which could cause much more havoc and confusion than just leaving it active.

When has this level of ambition been attempted on a “guitar pedal?” I can reamp this in my studio as saturation, as chorus/phase, as tape emulation (of 12 different models). On instruments it sounds amazing, but this is a steal when you think about it’s utility as a studio tool. It sounds fantastic in the dozens of situations I’ve used it in. It’s way more than a guitar pedal.

So what's your point? Everyone should just shut up and not expect a $400 device to work properly? Form factor is irrelevant, we're not in the 80s anymore man. Latency like that is unacceptable for a device this price IMHO and if people wouldn't complain then nothing would ever change. I'm glad you're in love with your pedal, but don't expect everybody to conform and settle for subpar performance with a relatively high price tag.

The low end loss may be due to balanced signal going in from the the interface which phases out the low end. The pedal may be expecting the unbalanced in.
@inthefade2 жыл бұрын
Balanced signal shouldn't change frequency response afaik. At least in ideal operating conditions. The signal is just inverted in one channel, then reverted and summed with the other channel equally so any line noise is cancelled out. Bad quality cables can effect freq response though.
@cuba19562 жыл бұрын

Seems to me it’d be impossible to have a tape-like effect in which the input and output are in time with each other. In real tape, the delay between the two would be a lot longer…. And that’s if you had one fancy enough to play from one head while recording on another. (Otherwise you record, stop, rewind, then play into your daw) I’d think dry signal + “clean” through-pedal signal would have a little slap back in it.

There is an unavoidable delay of audio going through the pedal due to how to processes the audio. They released an updated firmware that cuts down on the delay, but you lose audio quality and it ends up sounding like a bitcrusher kind of. If its a problem, try that, or record 2 tracks and shift them slightly in post.

The Reverb on the M1 is crazy, which is why I think I kept adding reverb on the Peak to make up for that. But the filters on Classic Mode on the Gen Loss sounds really good and the Failure knob with snags make it hard to beat in term of destruction of tape sound. The M1 is good for the usual wobble that you'd expect from a pedal like this but the Gen Loss takes it further in the direction of destroying the signal. Especially with the Models
