great customer service! as an early batch owner i'm in doubt now, yes for drum machines the bass mod seems better, but for the guitar/bass guitar i feel like the high pass filter kind of is essential for that 'lofi' vibe

Listening to the two sound examples, I don't mind it in its original form. I'm sandwiching mine between a Microcosm and a Ghost Echo going into the input of an OBNE Signal Blender. So, I'm fine with what i am hearing. Still cool to give people another option if they so choose, though.

Have done everything I can; two different cables; two different computers even! Step at 4:45 will not happen for me. Cannot get it to recognize my pedal just says, "No DFU detected."

Not all usb micro cables are created equally. It has to be one that says USB Micro Data Transfer. Most of them out there are just for charging. And make sure to have the cable plugged into the computer and the laptop before powering the pedal and then refreshing the STM programmer.

Is it correct to assume batch 2 orders can never get the non bass mod sound? I honestly do not like the sound of the guitar AT ALL after the mod (all the added low end causes note clarity and definition to become muddy, and the lofi effect completely disappears?) still excited for mine to arrive but kinda bummed this change was forced on us after purchasing - we should have been given the choice of modded or unmodded

Yes that is correct. It's something I really struggled with because I also prefer the original voicing... but most of the people we auditioned preferred the new stuff (like 70%) and we just had to settle on one hardware moving forward. Again, tough call, but this is what we chose.

While the mod itself can easily be applied to new pedals by just swapping the capacitors with 0-resistors, wave soldering the switches would require a PCB redesign. Hand soldering the switches like I'll do looks real janky with eight extra wires that act dual duty as both potential failure points and noise antennas. Also those dip switches aren't cheap and Chase Bliss if anyone knows it the best.

it's not perfect because we sold a bunch of b stock with earlier serial numbers (that did have the mod) but in general batch 1 were un-modded with serial numbers under 4000.

I love the idea of lower latency but the artifacts during the tape stop are pretty rough sounding. Is there a technical reason or limitation for the artifacts, and do you foresee ever finding a way to bring the tape stop back to original 1.0 sound with a future firmware update? I’m curious how the Mk 2 pre-post changes sounds compared to the Mk 1 pedal also (if even comparable). Thanks for making excellent pedals!

Yes, reducing the latency gives less flexibility for smoothness on the tape stop algorithm. I currently don't foresee us being able to do both (lower latency and smoother tape stop) but we are always working to improve our products so you never know!

There are clearly some pros and cons to each choice here, we've found that *most* people we've auditioned these changes for prefer a) reduced latency and b) neutral hardware voicing. As such, those are what we are going with for all Generation Loss MKII now and moving forward.

Correct. All new Gen Loss have updated firmware and bass mod. You cannot revert the bass mod, and you can revert to the higher latency firmware, the vast majority of people seem to prefer the lower latency version that the pedal now ships with.

Hello CB, 1st batch consumer here ... I would hope that your company would reconsider putting the burden of shipping cost on the consumer to get a 1st batch pedal to the new standard. Providing a pre-paid shipping label will be a minor cost that will affect your company's reputation in my eyes, and probably a lot of other people that got the 1st batch. it's tricky because the latency isn't static, it changes depending on setting. In typical settings the original firmware had latency of 20-30ms, and this one is more like 10-15ms.

You do understand that it's KINDA UNPROFESSIONAL AND SHADY to require 1) giving away my e-mail for an software that 2) isn't from an Apple approved developer 3) requires some weird bypassing of security settings (which isn't even possible on company managed Macs) 4) locks files during installation like some ransomware 5) doesn't work without being allowed to "call home" 6) then still doesn't work until I try 2 different cables, restart the MK2 and restart the software twice to 7) use a .bin that isn't available through support on the Chase Bliss website, anywhere to 8) install an update to fix latency which is an absolute no-go for any pedal while it also introduces 2 more drawbacks through artefacts, RIGHT? 😵‍💫

what a bummer. i paid for mine in july and now i have to just accept these changes. It feels very wrong to sell a product and not tell anyone about it sounding different until you have already shipped it. would have loved the option to decide. I had only heard such good things about this company, i am very let down and disappointed. I wanted that chorus sound and tape stop the way it was and i feel like the bass mod takes away from what the pedal is. What a shame to have wasted $400

You can switch back to the first firmware to get the chorus and original tape stop, it’s only the bass mod that’s set in stone as it’s hardware.

I guess we need to await more comparison videos, perhaps the difference is not even that big, or hopefully the bass version will indeed turn out to be preferred one by the vast majority. I think it was dangerous to point out what the trade off is of the bass mod (the tape stop effect change), and then not giving the new customers the chance to choose. Time will tell, but I respect the intention to listen to customer feedback!

I have to say I feel pretty frustrated with this situation... Calling this a "mod" seems like an attempt to shake off responsibility for a very poor design decision in the 1st place. A 500$ dollar pedal that cuts low frequencies even when off (in DSP bypass mode) is not at all what the majority of users expect, as your own survey showed. But now early adopters who supported the pedal from the start are forced to spend an extra 40€ at least on insured shipping to get it fixed, while everyone else who got it afterwards will get it right without spending extra money. You can say the "mod" is subjective and not necessarily better, but in that case it's hard to understand how with so many dip switches on board (most of them very unnecessary IMO) this was not included as an option there from the start. At the same time this solution will create a market for the original versions to be sold at crazy prices, since they are now a "limited edition". I'm sorry for the rant, I respect you guys a lot as a company, but I feel you really dropped the ball hard on this one.

I'm just afraid this solution is unfair for both those who got the original version and now have to pay more to get the bass cut fixed, and those who purchase based on the original sound and will now get a different version. In a way, it might have been better to leave it as it is and release a mk3 version in the future with the bass fix, to avoid creating this really tricky situation. Still, at the very least I think Chase Bliss should cover all of the shipping costs for those who have the original version and really want the bass cut fixed, considering users who paid the same money as we have are getting that "for free".

This might be one of the dumbest revisions Ive ever seen for a guitar pedal. You had people program tape eq around a circuit that included a hi pass filter, then people started complaining that their guitar pedal didnt sound good with their drum machine and instead of telling them to just mod their pedals to work with their drum machine you now change your entire manufacturing so it doesnt at all do the Lo-Fi generation loss effect for guitar like the original programs were programmed for. You should tell all those people that you had do Demos for it take them down cause its just false at this point. Cant wait for the Reverb market to explode with the V1 models selling for a couple grand again.

Appreciate your feedback, but we felt this was the best path forward, as the difference between the high passed vs full frequency versions are negligible except on low end heavy sources. There is also an option to apply filtering to your dry signal via the "Dry Type" dipswitch, so there really aren't any sounds the high passed version can do that this updated version can't do.

​@@gregasalt5594 the analog high pass filter has relative very little effect on the total model emulation when you consider the entire frequency response. So, this low cut thing is really more of a subtle preference rather than thinking about it as completely changing the flavor or vibe of a specific model
