Destruction Derby 2 - PSX | Full Gameplay Playthrough

One of the quintessential PS1 games to experience back in the day! Never was truly captured by the original Destruction Derby, though i love the concept. However, this sequel blew the original out of the water! Everything felt much 'punchier' and had that bigger, badder approach. Visually it was more captivating, the controls felt tighter and the highly more impressive damage and detail that was done to your vehicle gave it that visual awe that would bring a smile to your face.

I never played the first game prior to this one. I remember vividly my brother coming back from town with the game and we spent days just trying to make it through the divisions. Fantastic memories! I didn't get my grubby little mitts on the first DD until 2000 or 2001. Although it was a massive downgrade from the sequel, I still found it very enjoyable. The tightness of the tracks were a bit of a pain, and the handling characteristics were a bit dodge, but it was still fun! Not much in the way of replayability, though. Thanks for the comment! It's lovely hearing others' memories from these classic games and to revisit that past nostalgia of better times!

Love this game, I always dreamed of playing the different cars or even customizing your own colors but they didn't have those features which would have been nice.

That would've been fantastic. There are codes to be able to play with the AI cars but it causes the game to bug out. Still a brilliant game, though. It holds up really well even today!

@@marthastubbs8321 They should do a full overhaul remake of DD2, keeping the same physics, same graphics - just fix some of the pop-up and smooth out the edges - and just go to town creating new content, or even importing tracks from DD1 and DDRaw to add some variety. The ability to change the car number/colour as well would be nice!

@@DansDrivethru yup. I don't want any of the physics or the awesome enemy ai changed AT ALL. Just update graphics and pop up. The damage is fine too. Wreckfest may have better damage but it's so slow in comparison and it has rubber banding. I'd settle for new tracks with the old graphics though as long as it had the original speed, gameplay, ai, physics etc

@@marthastubbs8321 Someone did try making a mod for Carmageddon based on DD2, but it just didn't have the same appeal. It looked incredibly authentic but didn't have that feel the original game has. Would be great if the original Psygnosis dev team popped the DOS version on GOG, but updated to run on newer hardware with mod support / user-created tracks. Now that would be brill! Not gonna happen, but we can dream!

It's definitely one I do often go back to on occasion. The music and the rustic look to the game always brings back pleasant memories :D

For me that was always the optimal way of getting the required points. I'm sure there's better methods, though!

Well, they made Destruction Derby Raw a few years after, but it didn't have that same feel to it. With it being passed over to Studio 33, it just lacked that Psygnosis flair. The physics has that feel of the Eutechnyx games - floaty and all over the place
