Fun facts about Idol. This Fallon performance was my fav because of the symbolism. At the iconic Gyeongbokgung Palace they also performed Mikrokosmos and Dynamite. It was tough as it was hot and Hobi said he felt he was going to faint but they still performed it once more with more energy! Of course!! All brilliant. Jimin’s last high kick is so high that he always does a discrete look towards where Tae is so he doesn’t roundhouse him. He does it every time he performs it to check, the professional dancer in him. Jimin in the dance break at the end does a huge jump up before the head banging bit you spotted. It is stunning on a fan cam that captures him doing the whole thing! There are so many excellent performances of Idol it would be hard to chose one. The other Fallon one to match I’m fine is another fav as they do it in that small space again in studio and you can see the moves so clearly. The performance on Graham Norton Taehyung is really brilliant! There is no Jimin as he had his severe muscles spasms again 😢 and Jungkook couldn’t dance due to stitches in his heel but they all performed an adapted version and it was amazing! Idol is one of the hardest choreographies, Jimin, Hobi and Jin all said that until they did ON, Idol was the toughest ever, then both idol and ON were surpassed by Run BTS. However they also love all 3! When they performed Idol at the Golden Disk Awards the stage shook so much that the idols watching had to hold onto their chairs and were so shocked! The GDA is another excellent performance oh gosh there are so many brilliant performances of Idol though! Great reaction Bryan as always, thank you.

Yup, probably that. Also they were accused of being too "westernized" so they did the whole music video with JUST imagery tied to Korean culture. The Hanboks, the traditional buildings, bunnies, tigers, those dancing "dogs".

"Idol" is such a hype song! I always say that the MV is like being caught in a kaleidoscope.The dance is so dynamic that I get tired just watching them. There was one time they were doing the final dance part of the song and the stage was shaking so badly that the staff were literally holding it up underneath them. Scary stuff, but the show went on without any interruption because that's how BTS roll. Thanks for another awesome video! (And yes, this is totally goosebump-creating!) The 2018 MMA with Jimin's iconic fandance is really worth a look, too.

I love how they put them in fitted suits for the dance with all the crazy arm movements. 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 Does anyone else watch this and cringe every time they see Yoongi swing that left arm around? 🥺 As far as the crazy music video, I read somewhere that this was a clap back to all the haters that claimed they used green screen all the time. We know they use real effects whenever possible. BTS was like, you wanna see green screen? We’ll show you green screen. 😏 I love it!

You’re right. They talked about how incredibly hard it was to produce that kind of energy, with no crowd. Jimin was very transparent about this~ you can see his struggles, crying, etc during online concerts. They all talked about it, but Jimin was the most devastating for me to watch-the loss seemed so great. I think we can tell from even more introverted SUGA, during his recent concert commentary, how they thrive off of the fan cheers/excitement. He even said before the concerts-“At my concert, you have to jump from start to finish. If you rest in the middle of it, I might get… bummed…”. 😂

Idol is one of my favourite songs! I love all the performances of it, but my 2 favs are the Fallon one and the MMA 2018. At MMA, Jimin did a beautiful traditional Korean fan dance that he actually won a cultural award for. Plus Hobi and JK do some super cool dancing too. It’s definitely worth a watch. One of my top 2 live performances of any artist of all time.

2:06 for real though, that image of RM was the very first thing about BTS I ever noticed. I probably wouldn't be an ARMY today if his piercing gaze didn't catch my attention. I'm being fully honest here, if you look at the Thumbnail for British Priest reacts to BTS, you will see it.

I think the MV was made to be so over exaggerated was to bring across the msg of how idols are perceived. Like everything has to be overproduced and, as u said, “badly” made. But in reality it’s an art form that definitely BTS has mastered to perfection. So this MV n song is like they are being sarcastic to the people who labels them as “manufactured” artists. I could be wrong, but i think I’ve read this explanation somewhere in the massive web. Idol and its choreography is one of my favs!! It’s so powerful. 💜

What happened last week was really sad, I feel for the family and fans. A couple of BTS members have always been open about their mental health struggles, and them being open and the company being supportive (even hiring counselors for them) along with the seven being so close have surely helped them. Idol is about being unapologetically themself, and that no matter what you say, you’re not going to make me hate myself/“you can’t stop me from loving myself.” So with all the colors and hundreds and thousands of me, it’s celebrating all parts of themselves (people * cough * other jealous kpop stans * cough * criticize you must hate korea/you’re westernized, you can’t be this if you’re this way, etc.). MMA 2018 is the ultimate Idol performance that is over the top like the MV, and it’s amazing and love watching over and over. In terms of sound and electric vibes, this MAMA 2018 you just watched is so good. I watched many Idol performances, so when BTS did Fallon during COVID (2 yrs after first perf on Fallon with super multi-colored suits), thought they looked so cool and sharp and powerful like as if they’re princes. So classy wearing the modern formal-ish hanbok in front of a real palace in Korea, and thought their hair was on point too. The performance was also cool and sharp.

The very petty part of me loves the little (and big) f yous in the video. Oh we've forgotten our roots and becoming too Western? Here, have some traditional Korean imagery, modern hanboks, and some cultural nods. You think we use green screen? Oh, okay, here's a freaking fever dream. You make fun of RM using filters in V Lives? Let's slap a few of those in there. You're going to give Tae crap about wearing glasses? Yep, he'll wear them here. I'm sure there are others I'm missing, but I really love it. The Fallon performance is my absolute favorite. It's just gorgeous.

Hi Bryan. There’s another performance of IDOL on Jimmy Fallon that was live in studio. That was the first time I took notice of BTS. I was immediately drawn to Namjoon, then the dance moves like I’d never seen before coming from a “boy band.” I knew immediately these guys were special. That year they presented this song in every award shows they attended. This song is a funny way to send serious messages. There's an interesting explanation video, because there's many things in lyrics and the mvideo that we can't see at the first look.

I really love Idol too It is an intense choreography! There is a great video on DKDKTV explaining some of the Korean symbolism and such in the MV. It's worth a watch. Yeah, I didn't know Moonbin, but very, very sad. My condolences again to his family, friends and colleagues. Yes, I'm glad BTS have each other!

When that dropped for the 1st time, I was like "Jungkook has grown up a lot" (bcoz of his low cut dress 😂😂 as at that time BTS ch-2 wasn't started and their bare skin was not out in the public) Now look at the same guy posing for Calvin Klein 😵‍💫🔥 The boy is on fire these days Btw loved all of their outfits (hanboks) especially Jimin's mixed dress (am I biased for this 😂) Edit: Taehyung is looking absolutely stunning ❤ Jimin's high notes in this are clearer than my future 😂❤ and the Hyung line is also impressive 💜✨

Hey Bryan. I agree I love Vs growl and the grit and growl in Jimins voice in these Idol performances. Sound so good live as always. Ah every time you watch a live performance, dont you feel sorry for the people who are missing out on BTS because they've never given them a chance.💜 I love Idol it's such a positive, upbeat, empowering song and it goes well after Cypher 4. I'm wondering if you realised after the fact you've actually heard and seen Idol performed twice 😅. At the cinemas when you went to see Yet To Come, it was in the set list, they didn't do the choreo there though. Then when you watched MMA 2018, it was the last song after Jimin did his fan dance. You would have been so immersed in both performances though as there was so much going on, and they weren't specific reactions to Idol, so I dont blame you. Also, I don't think the audio was the best on the MMA video. So I'm really glad that you did this reaction to the song so you could see the MV and focus on the song and all aspects of the performance through even more lives. Each performance is so different. And the MV is a lot when your not used to it with all the colours but I love it - I also love the comedy in this one. 😆 Looking forward to your DKDKTV reaction. I'll just contribute my favorite thing about the choreo: it combines both a quintessential African move, the guara guara (with arm and leg) and a traditional Korean dance gesture (hand waving like a queen in a parade 😅). Those symbolize how they grow globally while maintaining their cultural roots.

I believe this was a response song to do many different haters over the years. You can call me artist, you can call me idol…. I don’t care. They’re so done with the ridiculous titles-either being (+) or (-); notice all the Korean cultural representations in this video and then, in places they performed this/how their staged performances were done-esp awards shows. They are proud South Koreans, but people said they were getting too westernized, blah, blah, blah-hate🙄. So, not only do they normally throw in cool cultural stuff, but this appears to be a concerted effort to do so. “I’m tired of it!” I 💜 love 💜 this line~ we’re ALL tired of it. Leave these guys alone. it's toned down on purpose, they're wearing hanboks, which are Korean traditional clothing (if you notice in the MV there are TONSSS of references to Korean folklore tales, and also culture, tradition etc). Also! the Fallon performance was filmed in August 31st Sept 1st (we know cause it was JK's bday) 2020, 2 years after the release. They weren't promoting it. It was more to promote Korea. I forgot the name of the place they're dancing in but it's not a place ppl easily can film! It's a historical place of one of SK dynasties?? something like that

all im going to say is...after this bts performance, mama forbid the crowd from bringing lightsticks, because it becomes a bts concert. also 2018 was a great and tough year. this was the last song they performed and even tho they were tired they gave it their all. and after this they won the awards and their speeches, damn, they were so raw and honest with what they were going through (thinking of disbandment) and couragious with deciding to continiue. their speaches of that award show is tough to watch.

There are tens and hundreds of myself in me. Sometimes as non-Koreans, I think we miss cultural speak/phrasing, that is much more common to hear there. It’s the same when I watch k~drama-things that I used to have to stop and educate myself have become common place phrasing, in my mind now. 😆 It’s just referencing how there are several different versions of us-think I’m putting my “fill in the blank” hat on pending place/circumstances OR how we chameleon to match the people we’re with-not the same person with parents, siblings, friends, lovers OR how sometimes we’re in different moods OR sometimes I wear completely different (clothes, make-up, hairstyles, etc) OR how I may love ironically, societally opposing things~ BUT, ALL OF IT IS STILL ME!! That’s the message~don’t box me in~all of it’s me. 💜🥰💜

Ahh i love Idol, I think it is my favorite songs like from hype typ of songs. I saw it live and it was one of top moments in concert. I love energy and music, and message, and dance, and the MV. Ahh I don't know if somebody said it but guys said that it was hardest choreo at that time, nie they have new that are hard, but at that time. It was their top. Hobi said that Fake love was also hard but bc they had to show different emotions etc but Idol was simply hard phisicaly. Hmm I also love Hongkong mama 2018 sooo I'm a little sad that you didn't watch the while performance especially it is one of thier shorter, like all have 11 minuts or something. Yeah so I would recomment that you look for yourself first part o this performance ;) it is in my top 3 award shows.

Idol MV is a clap back at all their critics. Call Yoongi too pale? He wears a Snow White sweater. Call j-hope too lanky and skinny like Bugs Bunny? He wears a Bugs Bunny Sweater and dances with an inflatable skinny dancing balloon guy. Call Jimin too feminine? He embraces it and dances in a seductive way with a traditionally feminine feather dance fan. Criticize RM for using snap chat filters in his lives? Here, have some more! Our videos use too much green screen? How about a near nauseating amount of green screen? Our videos are too colorful? Here, have ALL THE COLORS! BTS is getting too westernized and losing their cultural roots? Here are massive cultural references, symbols, architecture, lion dancers, fan dance, etc etc. DKDKTV does a good breakdown of the cultural references and some of the other things I didn’t mention.
