Should be in with a good chance of winning with this innovative design. Re the finish, surely tin cans are more sustainable than throw away plastic containers? Unless they’re plant based plastic of course.

Agree, metal should prove more eco friendly if recycled.
@timsway
@timsway 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the paint cans get "recycled" when you recycle the paint but don't quote me. These guys did the research and came up with the solution. I know it also involves shipping weight and costs, storage, etc. etc.
@JBergmansson
@JBergmansson 3 жыл бұрын
@@timsway Yeah, it totally depends on the way it is thrown away, but the empty can if treated as scrap-metal, shold just go back to being remelted, and not end up in landfill or a garbage oven.
@timsway
@timsway 3 жыл бұрын
@@JBergmansson Almost everything should be treated like recyclable, because almost everything is. But of course, the Reduce and Reuse Rs are the most important of the 3. These bags reduce, but do not reuse.
@JBergmansson
@JBergmansson 3 жыл бұрын
@@timsway Yeah, they are probably right in their choice to use plastic containers. Reducing is important. But I sometimes get a bit scared of plastic. Many plastics are not currently recyclable in a way that is practical, (some are not recyclable at all) meaning that even when disposed of correctly by the consumer, the items end up in landfill. Many types of plastic should probably be completely phased out. Much in the same way as we phased out flourocarbons in the 90's. Microplastics in the ocean is already a big problem.

That's the impetus for my channel: As the maker movement really started to take off, I wanted to be a road sign to warn people to slow down on the sheets of plywood and cocobolo when making their baubles and trinkets. Everything looks and sounds great, Tim. I hope your auction is a success. :) Just a little friendly advice for future builds. Always build your instrument's body around the bridge, pickups, nut, and tuning pegs first. This will help to eliminate issues in those areas later on, especially when it comes to where you cut wood away.

@@timsway Well, maybe I wouldn't do that then, lol! I just noticed on the mandolin you cut the shape far too close to the bridge. It needed much more space to make it workable. Of course the hooks weren't a great idea either, too soft a metal, but the amount of would there might've helped too.

Definitely getting, as the saying goes, some Jeff Goldblum vibes Mr. Sway! PS the mandolin is tuned the same as a violin, GDAE in 5ths PPS I note you put the neck pickup "the wrong way round"! not that it matters much! PPS, I think the only problem with the mandolin, is that the intonation sounds a bit off, but then you did paint yourself into the corner with the lack of space for the bridge! PPPS (Yes, Sorry!) Loved the whole concept, and indeed your approach to this. Hope you do well in the competition, and will be back to your channel on a regular basis.
