Great review! You covered almost all the points I had in my mind while watching the movie. It's an amazing film, and I loved how it revolved around so many themes and reflected the reality of the characters so brazenly. It covered so many themes from sexuality, desires, expression, companionship, societal roles, and hierarchies at all levels, households, the mujra theatre, and society. I especially liked the fact that it doesn't paint any character as good or bad, they are shown as imperfect creatures, which further brings it more relevant, allowing to deliver all the messages it seeks to do so. Haider's character throughout the film communicates more via his body language than his words, which was a great addition. Accept for the scene when he's in the theatre with Biba, he almost never really says what he wants to, showing how his suppressed feelings. Also, in that particular scene what he says tells a lot about how he perceives himself, reflecting not only on his suppressed feelings but also the guilt he might be feeling because of his affair. Also, if we see in the scene, where Mumtaz is drinking that poison, Haider goes in but doesn't notice her with that bottle. In my opinion that further explains the relationship they have, they are great friends and love each other but not in the couple sort of way. Mumtaz especially doesn't feel like she's seen. Thus, she further gulps more poison after he leaves the room, out of frustration maybe, or maybe she was hoping to be seen in the final moments, maybe she could have been saved had he noticed, and she made no efforts to hide her actions, but sadly he doesn't notice. PS: Biba's character in my opinion was that of an intersex person rather than trans.
