@purpleicicles2 жыл бұрын
@@godwinehidiamen9904 If the sleeve head is too big for the armhole then you can either gather it between the notches before sewing it on (gives a cute puff sleeve effect), or you can shorten the vertical line that connects the shoulder to the bicep. If your sleeve head is too short for the armhole, then you can either make the sleeve head taller or increase the width of the bicep measurement to account for the difference. I hope that helps!

Instead of pattern paper I've been using wrapping paper with a inch grid on back. It makes things so much easier and I have a use for the ugly wrapping papers I get from multipacks. It's a win-win in my book.

Hello Priscilla. Firstly, thank you for this video. Sleeves have always been a mystery to me. You have given a masterclass in laying a pattern for sleeves. I am grateful. Secondly, thank you for not rambling. I appreciate that you get straight to the video. I do not want or need chit chat. I just want to learn so I am very glad to see that this is what you do so well. Thirdly, thank you for using regular tools that most people will have, with the exception of the pattern maker. I have my own and it is the most used tool in my dress making tool box. And finally, thank you for sharing your skills with us. For me you are one of the best teachers on KZbin. Have a good evening 💐😁👍

i've seen a lot of posts on here that have also helped me to understand the potential issues i may run into relative to this video regarding ease, seam allowance, etc. BUT, by far, this was the most clear-cut and defined tutorial for individuals like me looking for a general understanding on how to not only draft a basic sleeve pattern, but how to use my existing knowledge and "play" with the pattern to perfect my technique. i've only really attempted a "formal" sleeve block pattern once and it took so long that I still hv the bodice piece waiting to be finished off in my sewing room to this day! with this tutorial, i can really try and master drafting a block pattern first, and then transferring to muslin and work from there to use on my bodice. i've learned many a sewing technique by trial and error and it has been really the only way i'm able to retain anything anyway. but, complicated or hard to follow tutorials just make it more aggravating. MANY THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO TUTORIAL! can't wait to try it out :)

I understand what you mean Irene. I used to be afraid of pattern making when I was in Uni. But one of the ways that helps is practice, even if you don't get it right at first. The more you practice and make patterns, make mistakes and learn from them, the better you will become. Books and short courses also help a great deal

A really great instruction video. Maybe explain a little more about back and front curve dimensions for the bust line and back of shoulder blade/arm pit/shoulder and ways to work with a measuring bust as a way to aid accurate measuring/pattern cutting. For anyone who cannot afford a bust (this can be quite expensive), you can wrap yourself in cellophane (no joke!), then put duct tape all around the cellophane, then have your friend cut a line up the back, then seal the two sections at the back together again and then fill the cellophane and duct tape with stuffing (or something similar). This obviously produces a bust which is a very accurate for your body’s size/shape!

What helps is measuring the armhole and adjusting the sleeve head to fit. Usually the sleeve head has about 2cm more than the armhole, this is eased into the armhole to allow room for movement.
