This coffee maker lasted me about 2 years. The plug started to get hot and the coffee started to get warm. So I assume the heating element was failing. Shame to because when it worked right it did make a nice cup of coffee quickly.

I just got this after our cheaper mr coffee went out after 6 years. Haven't diagnosed it yet. The downside to this one, it doesn't have a backlit LED after opening it. Especially at night when i use it. Also found i cant tell when the hot plate is still on, no actual off button like the old one so when i pour the coffee, im not wasting electricity for 2 hours over a empty coffee pot.

How do you know for sure the louvers at the top are for adding water? I mean the manual does seem to indicate that you close the top and then add the water. So it seems logical to assume you would use the louvers to add the water. However It doesn't seem to mention the louvers. I'm thinking they added the louvers to release steam. This is something no one seems to understand: Steam has a horrible taste. It's like a burned taste because all the nutrients are gone from burned food and distilled or steamed water has no minerals in it. It tastes horrible. People look at me like I'm crazy when I mention this. I think I need to buy a jug of distilled water so that when I get someone a glass of water I can pour them a cup of distilled so that they can actually experience how horrible it tastes. Finally someone will say "What's wrong with this water?" and I'll finally get my point across. My opinion is that by opening the louvers while you brew the coffee, more steam will escape and less steam will get into the coffee. I don't know maybe the filter filters out the minerals too though. The grounds themselves could be filtering out the minerals. Anyway my point is that a coffee maker is not a distiller. It doesn't distill the water it puts in your coffee. It pumps it so the steam isn't really intended to go into the coffee. By opening up the top the steam can escape. If someone wants more coffee for the full 12 cups I think it lets you fill it past the 12 cup mark on the side. You can fill it past that a half inch before the coffee comes out the back. Even then you can put in more water. It's really hard to communicate about coffee because how can you even communicate the difference between strong and weak coffee? Is strong coffee coffee with more grounds? Does it have more of a coffee taste? Some cups DEFINITELY taste better than others, BUT WHY? If you leave the coffee in the pot for a while then you would think water would continue to evaporate and the coffee would get stronger. I never drank coffee till a girlfriend of mine got me drinking Ice mochas. So late in life I learned how to use the coffee maker. Brewing coffee is a lot cheaper than buying cold brew coffee. So I don't know much about coffee but I know I don't like distilled water.

Thanks for showing the wattage......as you can see wattage goes hand in hand with brewing temperature.......This 1100 watt machine DOESN'T cut it........You will never get that 195+ brew temp...I seen machines need well over 1300-1400 to get that perfect temp......Keurigs are in the 1400+ and gives you the perfect cup ....
