The NER used similar fencing in some places as did BR.

Ratio Models, as was, now Peco (they seem to get their claws on everything these days). Got a drawerful of Peco and Wills' (also Peco) stuff, together provide good ground coverage for platforms, passenger or goods. The Ratio coaling stage can be shortened and used as a platform to be put by a farm gate for milk churn collection. As an inveterate 'kit-basher' I've modified lots of Ratio and Wills' products. A new small firm on the block is Intentio, who produce A4 size sheets of roofing slate or tiles and other detailing products, which is ideal if you want to do buildings that are longer than the Wills' sheets, such as factories or whatever. as a ModelU customer - who also do detailing for buildings, besides railway and ancillary figures in up to G scale - you can use their Facebook web page as a forum to get ideas on painting and anything else you can think of connected with railway modelling. As a OO Modeller you could join the Double O Gauge Association (DOGA), who also have a Facebook page. There's a link on the Ainthorpe Junction page, hubpages.com/@alancaster149 to DOGA, ModelU and the RMweb site (associated with British Railway Modelling).

Hi Dave. Sorry to rant, but most of your closeup shots were out of focus (and Darren Letten has already commented on the resolution). Hattons has done enough of these skill casts to have solved these camera problems by now. While I'm on a rant, you didn't mention that Tiny Signs was a Gaugemaster brand. Hope you can sort these for future videos (which I will watch).

@@HattonsModelRailways The Wills' (Peco) platform facing (and optional surfacing kit can be applied to a piece of 2" deep X 3" wide piece of pine as long as your platform needs to be, Douglas. For a fraction of the cost - and when complete you can say it's your own creation - you can have a tailor-made station platform. If you're handy with tools and such you can trim your costs to be able to buy more stock or trackside furniture (signals, track, buffer stops etc).

By the time you've built up your track level, the lower part of the wood will be hidden, and ballast will reach to the second brick course. Any signal wires will pass along the bottom of the platform to a signal box either at the end of the platform by a crossing or on the platform. The options are endless and illustrations for the particular region you want to model are legion.

Somebody's dream, Neil. Eston Station behind where I lived - 1955-'65 - was opened 1909 by the NER, closed to passengers 1929 by the LNER. No evidence of any platform 'furniture', all lapboard buildings including platform signal cabin and black diagonal fencing (but only because it hadn't had a lick of paint since 1929). A yard crane that hadn't been used in decades, probably pre-WWII, and a basic ground level Co-op coal depot that only took BR 16 tonners. I remember Long Beck was even more basic, from travelling to Saltburn once or twice (competition from United Automobile Services, then Arriva). Just a small square signal cabin at the Long Beck crossing and a 'bus shelter' to match the Pacers. We had to get the 62 or 63 to either Middlesbrough or Redcar/Saltburn. I think that passed under the bridge at Marske station back when double-decker buses were lower.

@@AlanLancasterAlanRLancaster no, there were plenty of Cadbury's a d other brand chocolate machines up and down the country. I don't know much about Eston station but it was one of the five stations covered in Ken Hoole's book on NER Branch line termini. Longbeck was built in the 1980s and followed standard practice of the era. Breeze block pillars and timber with a bys-stoo style flat roof shelter (later replaced with a round topped one). The signal box, which before 1970 was just s crossing box, is now the last box before Carlin How. When I was up there, part from the X buses, United's services all started with a 2. Cleve, and Transit used 2 digit route numbers - IIRC the 74 went from New Marske to Liveryon Mines via Long Beck.

@@neiloflongbeck5705 Hello again Neil - you're a busy lad, aren't you. Just clicked on the 'Highlighted Reply" - I had that book, and one or two others Ken Hoole brought out until the mid-80's when he was taken into Scarborough Hospital. Nice bloke, but didn't suffer fools - but as I said Eston was very basic, but not as basic as some in the area like Ormesby, Nunthorpe and Commondale or Pinchinthorpe. Btw, the Arriva bus services reverted to the United route numbers, like the 62 and 63, although they were prefixed by '2' for a while as you say. Maybe there were complaints... How are you getting along these days, now we're all lumped into a common National Lockdown? Hopefully I'll get my jab before long, being in my early 70's.
