Very interesting...I've never heard of them before.
@cabinhilldairy Жыл бұрын
They’re not super common but been increasing slowly. They’re actually one of the more popular breeds world wide just not in the U.S

Awesome mate , 70 pounds so around 32 litres how do they compare to the Holsteins , how many kg/ dm are you feeding your cows each lactation? Also what is there lactation curve like in comparison to the Holsteins do they have a lower peak milk ?
@cabinhilldairy Жыл бұрын
Their lactation curve has a lower peak but they’re more steady. Not sure that’s a good way if explaining. Less milk overall than Holstein they make up with the overall health. We’re currently feeding 54lbs/dm intake

Nice video. Are they polled
@cabinhilldairy Жыл бұрын
There are some bulls we use that are polled that we use. Hoping more in the future are polled

Your felckvieh are they registered and what are you averaging for pounds of milk and what is your BF and protein and SCC on them and do you have to pull the calves or do they calve on their own
@cabinhilldairy Жыл бұрын
They calve pretty easy. Of course every now and then there’s one that needs help but for the most part calving is no issue. Averaging 70lbs 4.22 BF 3.44 protein 64SCC

I also crossbreed with fleckvieh and they have a superior udderhealth andgreat legcomposition the breed is originated in germany and are the ancestors of simmenthal and montebeliard cows i have seen the meatversion being milked over in South Afrika and the first calvers produced over 50 pounds of milk .. they wher kept as embryoreceivers for a holsteinherd.

@@cabinhilldairy I am a dutch dairyfarmer from the netherlands i milk 75 cows organic and on pasture for about180 days and nights .

Oh nice! I hear a lot of news about the Netherlands. Is it getting better for farming now with the change in the government?
@folkertvisser5294 Жыл бұрын
@@cabinhilldairy lets hope there is a lot of regulations coming from th eu where the dutch goufernement (pardon my skoolbook english). is hiding behind we are on the worldscale a very small qountry with a population reaching 18 mill people so the underlying reason is probably that politics want to put us farmers out of buissnes so they can aquier cheap land for housses first they buy farmers out for nature so they say and lateron they can sell the land four or five thimes the price they bougt it from the farmers smells al kind of fishie..

I'm a vet have recently started crossing my herd with fleckvieh I'm yet to experience their benefits

Nice cows 👌. We got into crossbreeding a couple years ago , so far so good. I think Holsteins have been inbred for too many years and the health traits just aren't there anymore
@cabinhilldairy Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’ve heard that a lot about the Holsteins. I think they were chasing milk so hard they lost on the health side of the cow

We have 9 crossbred holstein fleckviehs in our herd of 160 milkers. they are our best and most profitable cows. We are now in the process of cross breeding our entire herd.
