Great video mate. Best way to mark out an area you want to grid is drag a lump of chain behind you. Mark out lanes as wide as you require then cross then over from perpendicular into squares or rectangular blocks / panels. With detectors a Minelab GPX 4500 pulse induction machine with a 11 inch mono coil or the DD coil will ensure perfect for that ground, for sensitivity and ground coverage a 14 x 9 inch mono coil is the best. Using bigger coils gives you more ground coverage being worked but some of the larger coils will loose sensitivity on smaller bits unless you tune in very well. Detecting low and slow always yields results.

Two Toes, you're most welcome mate. I'm located in Kalgoorlie western Australia but have travelled every winter and spring time here in Australia to the east coast where I grew up in far north Queensland back country. I take all my coils, DD, MONO, and anti interference coils ( aka salt coil - awesome on salt lakes) large coils for above the creek and river banks, smaller coils for narrow Creek beds and feeder creeks. I find lots of small stuff, GPS the area then rake samples every hole I get a piece of gold. 9 out of 10 times I get fines in the dish with screens of 1\2 inch on top of 1/4 inch on top of 1/8 inch stacked above the gold dish/pan. Also I take my Garret ATX pulse induction detector with me as well along with my Minelab detector. The Garret has far better hot rock rejection capabilities over the Minelab, both are stock standard detectors as I've no inclination to get either of them modified. Love your videos Gary, very informative as to the type of host rock and strata you have to work with over there, and the types of wash as well. Here in Australia it's a whole new ball game as the ground is completely different and we have some of the "hottest" ground for coils to deal with on the planet according to visiting blokes from the USA and Canada. In western Australia we have the most hostile ground for coils - places where you cannot get a coil any closer to the ground than 5 ft off the ground even with the anti interference coils / salt coils.

I have a fisher gold bug 2 that i have had about 3 years, I am now getting around to using it more often than i have before. Your video was very educational and has shown me a few things i may have been doing wrong like the grid you made. I'm so use to seeing people look for coins and that's how i have been working my machine, a guy brought that up to me the other day at a goldmine but didn't explain what the right way was to use it. The desert videos are also cool. I have seen others that attemp to show how to look for gold in old stream beds in what today is the desert. Nevada is closer to me than California. It would be nice to visually understand what to look for in Nevada for those of use who don't know others with claims. Though I have enjoyed all the videos you have produced. Even the funny outtakes. I have an old iphoneX that can be used with Carl Zeiss lenses are notoriously known for Razer Sharp images. Hasselblad + Leica are very, very expensive cameras who use Zeiss lenses. The 3 Zeiss lenses are Macro/normal, Telephoto and Wide angle. Unlike most other lenses the Zeiss are bright, sharp and distortion free Edge to Edge! The Best part is that you can buy all 3 Zeiss lenses for under $400! You will also need to buy a special adapter than attaches to the iPhone X so that you can then mount your lenses. I only know of one company that makes this adapter

yes that's what I always say, its just golden to be out in beautiful places like that ,the gold is just a bonus , good thing to clean up the nuggets is hydroflouric acid , or alli brite they call it aluminium cleaner ,it wont hurt the gold . nice vid , thanks for sharing.

I tumble them with nitric acid for a hour or so then put them in a bottle with ezest coin cleaner and shake the bottle for 30 sec - or so, they come out bright and shinny. Thanks for the support

2 questions: 1. What is the reason behind doing a back to front sweep than a side to side sweep over the same section? Are you just being extra thorough? 2. How often have you dug an iron target and found gold in the same spot?

By swinging the loop across the target in both directions, allows you to pinpoint much better.2 - A iron target is a much stronget target, it will mask any gold that is near it. I remove all iron targets to make sure their is no gold under them or around them. When working a river I find gold with the iron about 75% of the time.

Nevada is a good State to find Gold, most areas that are proven Gold areas were stringers and veins of Quartz and very fine Gold, (most Gold is microscopic) so detectors may not locate these small amounts of the yellow metal. There are some places that have Flakes and some small nuggets.....

Excellent practical instruction. Best we have seen on detecting. Suggestion: the term "pennyweight" is hard to relate to. "Ounce" would better communicate a sense of value as that is what is used in the gold market.

All the old guys that taught me mining used pennyweights so that is what I know. Everyone uses grams now, I think DWT is much easer - there are 20 pennyweights to a ounce. I think that is a lot easer than 31.1035 grams to a ounce.

Pin pointers haven't worked very well for me. I have a bad habit of walking off and leaving them. Then I have to take the time to go back and find it. They don't pick up gold very well, and even in the best of situations they only detect a inch or two. Thanks - Gary

Seems the gold there is all on top in the dry streambed, have you always noticed that there?

I think its spread threw the gravel. When there is a flash flood it stirs things up and gets some of the pieces within range of the detector. The gold that I have found there is small and the detector will only pick it up within 6 or so inches.

This spot was shown to me by an old friend years ago. It is the only place in Nevada I have detected for gold. I have over the years tried the hillsides, but have had no luck. I think in this area all the gold has been washed in. The video doesn't show it but, the hills go on for miles. I have never tried detecting in Utah. I have gone on several bike rides threw southern Utah, beautiful part of the state! Thanks for the support.

I built the tool. I used a old garden rake, I cut the head off a cheep claw hammer and welded the rake to it. You have to find the old spring steel rakes, the ones they make now will brake if you put to much pressure on them. I built that one in the 70's and the rake I used was old then. Be respectful of another's property -- don't go where you are obviously not wanted, like a golf course or a cemetery, and don't cross deliberate barriers like fences or go into private yards -- otherwise have at it. When I started, I went to schools on Sundays, parks, trails, and unpaved parking lots where I found lots of clad and learned my machine. I did not excavate with a shovel but just carried a chisel for scratching and never went below 4". Repair any holes. If someone asks you to leave, then leave. Most people are curious about what you can find and are friendly.

I have a compass relic magnum that was handed down to me from my uncle in-law, I have no manual for it and have had great difficulty finding any info on the web. Would it do any good detecting gold crevicing creeks and the like?? In your professional opinion of course 👍 cheers mate

I used to be a Compass dealer back in the 80"s. They were great detectors in there day. I don't think it would be able to handle the high mineralization you encounter while searching for gold. I tried detecting for gold with the old tr/vlf detectors, didn't do worth a darn until the first gold bug came out.

The gold only moves in flash floods. The flood can last a few minutes or a few hours, but it just tumbles everything down the hill. The gold can end up on the surface or be a foot or two down.

you are very knowledgable ,the rust on your one piece should give you a clue,gold is usually found attached to rust,bull quartz,and dolemite,you should look at your own videos,see that outcrop of rust on those young mountains,look down about a 100ft below them,if your TDI masks out the mineralization,happy hunting,lost my mobility or I'd be out there too,big nuggets or outcrop is the top of the thermal vien and they are rare,but the desert southwest in a large place,small grain gold means its traveled a long ways,flood gold as you call it,is the start

I don't know any place to go in Nevada, but this one spot. All I can suggest is start reading the history of the area.There has been a lot of mining reports published on Nevada. You can check and see if there are any detecting clubs in your area, they are a good source of info. Thanks - Gary

Most of Nevada is public land, the hard part is finding out what agency has control. The place I go was shown to me years ago by a friend. I find a little gold every time I go there, and that's good enough for me. The main reason I go is to enjoy the desert in the spring.

I will soak it in vinegar for a few days or if its got a bad buildup, I will use muriatic acid. Then put in with a little ezest ( coin cleaner ) and shake it up for a bit, rise with clean water and your done.
