Someone get Detmer her own ship, it's the only time she's truly happy
@Agent_1701-D3 жыл бұрын
She’s happy with the Discovery. That said, maybe a dedicated shuttle. Paris had the Flyer. Why not? And with this, she just ranked up there with some of the finest helmsman and pilots I’ve ever seen in Starfleet History alongside Hikaru Sulu, Tom Paris, and Will Riker. Sorry, but Crusher, Ro, Dax, and even Nog were decent - but not at that elite level. The jury is still out on Number One.
@drmayeda19303 жыл бұрын
@@Agent_1701-D If Detner had the skills of a Tom Parris. He designed the Delta flyer to fill a niche none of the shuttles or Shuttleworth did. I'm not sure how long it would have taken Tom to build it but Janeway put a rush on it because it was needed for a special mission none of the shuttles could handle. That plus Belana was tired of rebuilding wrecked shuttles or shuttlepods. This reminded me of the trench attack run in star wars IV a new hope and the ending was like the finish of a basestar attack on the original Battlestar Galactica. At least these manual controls looked halfway like a yoke not an over grown joystick.

These kinds of major genetic adaptations to species traits don't just happen in only 900 years those kind of major changes take much longer. If the antenna were cauterized that could be a explanation but as for the radical facial structure change that we see the same thing even with admiral shukar in the 2200s the 900 year evolutionary change excuse doesn't cut it. Those kinds of traits take thousands sometimes tens of thousands of years to change and develop The problem that I have is when shows try to fundamentally change things too radically too soon without any justification just for the sake of changing it up it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's the same thing with the Klingons being redesigned and looking more like they belong in a pirates of the Caribbean movie then Star Trek if you want to do some tweaks and adjustments there's nothing wrong with that but when they fundamentally change something so that it looks like a different species whether they try and retcon is being a specific cast or not it just doesn't work that well. Detmer is more of a "fighter pilot" than a helmsman. The Orion males were all bald before, now they all have a Beetles style bowl cut.

I like the new Andorian prosthetics. They make them look less human and just as pretty IMO. And I'm with the prior person. They almost definitely cauterized them so they wouldn't grow back. It was a humiliation power move afterall.
@OllamhDrab3 жыл бұрын
@@parrot998 Eh, I'm of the opinion there's plenty of face-prosthetic peoples out there, and Andorians already looked distinctive without so much in the way of actors' faces. Enterprise got em right. And there's precedent for some darker blue Andorians, mind you, but it's seemingly pretty hard to make those dark blues not look like plastic. (And I don't know if they cut off Ryn's antennae fairly recently or intended to just keep doing it to him again if they grew back or what. )
@parrot9983 жыл бұрын
@@OllamhDrab If you mean IRL, you are absolutely incorrect. The humanoid form is only conducive to certain environments, in other words, VERY Earth like environments. And even then the dominant species wouldn't necessarily take that form factor. It could take on an arachnoid/cephalopod/crab form factor, or an avian form. Depends which family is pressured towards the most practically useful brains to achieve sapience first. Different environments lead to different evolutionary pressures and thus a vastly different array of probable natural selection. For example, hands are a benefit but there are plenty of ways to be creative without them. Humans being the only tool using lifeform on this planet is a complete falsehood. Otters use rocks, some birds use sticks, octopi will use things like jars if they are in between them and food, ants farm and milk aphids, etc. Given enough time and pressure, they could learn to make things just as well as a humanoid. Star Trek even recognizes itself how silly the prevelance of humanoid sapients is, hence why TNG went out of it's way to explain it as an ancient civ seeding their genes throughout the galaxy. So more deviance from the humanoid form is good in my book as long as it makes sense... The andorians have always seemed a little gastropoda, having those sensative flexable antennae. So touching them up a bit to reflect that makes perfect sense, and I'd personally argue their new prosthetics make them look prettier than humans with that almost silky smooth looking skin, esp since it makes zero sense for them to have sweat pores seeing as they come from a place they'd never need them. (though TBF I also personally think humans are a kinda homely lifeform, so IMO it isn't that hard to improve), whereas the old design they looked too human for how different their anatomy would have to be both to accomodate their antennae, and the planet they came from.
@OllamhDrab3 жыл бұрын
@@parrot998 Uh, your claims make no sense cause Andorians actually are in the show mammalian bipeds ...and their homeworld isn't that much different from Earth.... Frankly nothing says their world even was as frigid as portrayed for their whole evolutionary history, and they clearly have underground dwellings and obviously fire.... None of which means they needed to make their faces bumpier or anything to do with gastropods. Star Trek's full of basically humanoid creatures as it is, so they don't really 'have' to make changes except hopefully, to make alien characters seem more alive. THat's hard to do with a lot of plastic.

@@cteal2018 That's a nice joke. Well that could be true if courage in Andorians are dependent of their antennae. I remember that, in Star Trek: Enterprise, Jon Archer fought Thy'lek Shran in a death duel and cut off one of his antennaes, ending up as the winner, and Shran didn't loose any courage. Btw, Archer winning over Shra was a very far-fetched outcome, let it be said... Shran was much better trained than him with those weapons, and as a fighter in an overall way. Well, the far-fetched outcomes of fights are far from uncommon in Star Trek...
@atanvardo57303 жыл бұрын
@@yveslafrance2806 Hey friend! Well, you are missing the key point of my post: _The Andorians are a warlike species_ This tells that when I referred to the courage and self-confidence of Andorians, I was not based on Thy'lek Shran only, but on what _excatcly_ Andorians are as a species. And they are a warrior species. Andorians are maybe even more warlike than Romulans. I could say they fit somewhere between Klingons and Romulans to this respect (more like Romulans than Klingons, as seemingly almost all Klingons are warriors at some degree). Besides, Andorians have a very enduring "spirit", since they are from an icy planet where climate is very hostile, and, like Shran himself said to Archer, "the desert is difficult, but it is the cold that forges the true willpower" (something like that). Also, their uncommonly gristly bones are very difficult to be broken, making them rather tough opponents in unarmed combat.

Granted the ship was on automatic, which makes no sense given they are in a battle but it makes even less sense when she takes the auto pilot off and grabs the WII remotes. It looked silly in Star Trek Insurrection when Riker had the joystick control and it looked worse here. Also, there is a good reason why Gene said ships should look symmetrical...because they just look weird otherwise. And what kind of design is Books ship anyway? Is it a 1 man transport vessel with comfy sleeping quarters on the bridge? Or is it a warship with a bachelor pad behind the bridge? And what powers the ship's individual pieces whenever it separates to do a fast U turn? It may be the dumbest looking ship in all of star trek...and that includes the Oberth class!

What do think would happen tilly your the most incompetent officer I've ever seen last time I saw this type of behavior was in the episode of deep space 9 the way of the warrior federation betrayed the klingon empire by letting gerrek listen in on a security meeting and the cardasian were ready for them didn't do any good though

What an absolute embarrassment to what Star Trek was. The low I.Q. humor is so cringy. (The cat jumping on the weak, cowardly male character.) Fan films are made better.

Why does this awful show keep showing up on my recommendations? It's written for a 12-year-old.
