Nice find on the Silver 53. I remember when I worked at the GMC dealer we took all the new GMC trucks with Green 8V92's and took out Green 92 and installed a new Silver 92. This was a GMC deal in order to sell the trucks with a 92 in them. Had a dozen of them to do.

Wow, that's a lot of work to swap those to the Silvers.:) Tearing down the engine today and tomorrow, so far very happy with the condition of the parts.:)

Very cool find, I like how you explain these engines so us not so knowledgeable followers can learn. I have possession of my dad's 1951 IH L110 2WD truck that I want to convert to a 4WD and replace the IH inline 6 Silver Diamond with 4-53T.

Thats the thing about the "parts tree" when you give it a good shake, all kinds of things fall out of it.

That 6V92T w/Jakes would be awesome in an Excursion if you could keep the tires from spinning! Can't have enough parts!!!!

Sure would be something.:) With some hammers and Vaseline it would probably fit.:)

@@rodneymiddleton9624 If I had the room I'd probably buy it.:) I'm running out of room with all these 53 series and a 6V71 in the shop.:) If the price is right I'll have to make room for it.:)

Tearing down the engine now with a video to follow.:) I'm planning a video on the differences between the N, T and Silver 4-53's.:) I'm getting a lot of questions on the topic.:)

Theres a marine outfit in fife Washington that has a TON of detroits and a silver series 8v92 i believe its brand new

I see Detroit garage, I thumbs up. Sir, what's the difference between silver and non-silver series engines? I have 6-71TA non-silver
@detroitgarage94303 ай бұрын
The Silver Series had upgraded pistons, rods, bypass blowers. All in an attempt to improve reliability and reduce fuel consumption. For the 53 series this improved fuel consumption by 9% over the green engine and 10HP more power. P.S. The 53 Silver also had improve valve gears to lower noise and improve reliability.:)
@wyndnra1n3 ай бұрын
@@detroitgarage9430 Wow that's impressive. So there really isn't much to do in ways of swapping parts to convert to silver series? Cylinder pack assemblies, bypass blower, bypass intake and you've got it really?

Tell us about little Alice forklift….so cute…!
@dantesinfernopurgatory78263 ай бұрын
I believe Alice (short for Allis-Chalmers) is powered by a Detroit 2-53.
@detroitgarage94303 ай бұрын
Alice started life in 1965 as a Hazmat forklift and Buda D175 powered.:) I bought it 7 years ago and restored it to operational use. The Buda was in very hard shape and repowered it last year with a 1958 Detroit 2-53 I rebuild.:) I now have 50 hrs on the repower and running really nice.:)

Would be nice if you could find an aluminium 6v53 I know those things are pretty rare. Do you know if they did a aluminium 453 I know that the aluminium blocks were mainly for the military. imagine it would save a lot of weight
@detroitgarage94303 ай бұрын
Yes, that would be nice.:) I don't think they made a 4-53 aluminum block, but only 3-53, 6V53 and 4-71.:) Think the aluminum 6v53 save 200-300 pounds.:)
