42 years ago, I drove for a company that had 430 Detroit’s in 4300 Transtars with 10 speed Roadrangers, 4.11 rears; a little bit of heaven rolling down the interstate. Thanks for the memories. You know how to drive a Detroit instead of abusing it!

Sounds just like my father’s ‘70 Mack RS700L but he had a 8v71 with a 13 speed roadranger. Could always hear him coming from a half mile away.

Mid 5's with what I do. But to be fair, I never done a full tank of fuel while loaded. As for the top speed? On the flat @1900rpm's about 75-80. But I do keep it around the speed limit because it will drink fuel if I push it. I had seen a v71 get 3.7mpg back in the late 80's. I hope to never beat that. LOL

I asked the same question and he responded with 5.6 mpg for the year. For what he has pulling a reefer that is not bad at all. A modern W900 with a Cummins X15 does about the same.
