For years, the process has been difficult, expensive and filled with red tape.

If anybody’s responsible for making Detroit, unsafe, uninhabitable, and unaffordable, it’s the city of Detroit. The median valued home in Detroit is taxed at 3.21%. That’s the highest in the country, the rate for rental property if I’m not mistaken is 8.6%, they have the highest permit and inspection fees in the entire state and most of the country, and they also have one of the highest water and sewer rates for contaminated drinking water in the state as well. Detroit makes a lion share of rental proceeds, but they bare no responsibility?. Lower the cost of permits lower the cost of taxes. if you want to increase affordability quality and value lower the taxes, fees, and fines. Have you ever heard that saying don’t invite a vampire into your home? The city is currently the vampire and they are not there to help you.

The people have to bend that vampire with STRONG pressure to make it work for them. It takes time, cooperation, and labor. It wont be be easy, but taking back a bit of the heavy reins isnt meant to be.

People are going to lose their properties BIG TIME. Of course we went safe rentals but this ain't to help.

Raise the rent even higher or Sell to foreign & Corporate investors. This does not help Tenants at all, it helps the City. Lower Property Taxes, Permit Fees, & Water Bills. Landlords suffered during Covid. Many of them lost their properties.

This is really good program for the city & long overdue, and maybe the newfound energy into combating it will prove otherwise, but I fear the status quo will stay the same.

The more money owners are mandated to spend, the more they have to charge for rent! Safe housing is a must, but people have to be prepared to pay more! You can't sell a 5 dollar hamburger if you're paying everyone 15 bucks an hour to make em! That's why a big Mac costs 8-9 bucks! It's simple math! The more it costs to do business, the more you have to change the consumer!😮

If it's too much for the poor landlords to bear, they're free to get out of the slumlord business and get a real job like everybody else.

This is essentially the same argument as the whole "gentrifying" debate. It's not just rent will go up, some people are going to wind up with different (or no) landlords and get evicted, too. But the bottom line is: do you want nicer houses or do you want to remain a more affordable ghetto? Hey, I'm not making any decisions for anyone else, I've heard plenty of people openly admit to wanting the latter, but the cost there is paid in having more toddlers falling through the floor.
@j.letourneau18546 ай бұрын
yes it will change the city will ticket the owners and they will have to raise rent to pay for it, but the politicians will get more money to blow on their own personal projects. Oh and make rent to high for the average renter

Dont forget rental caps or landlords will just pass the costs onto renters..........

Imagery matters. Why is a private owned and not rented condo shown @ 1:41 when saying "stiffer penalties will be given out to landlords"? Every time you all cover a negative landlord / rent issue you use images of City Modern. Why?

Simple logistics. It's much faster and cheaper to use stock footage. They were there to cover a press event of the new proposal, that was the important part.

Landlords can’t pay for the bills because of all the tenants that don’t pay and the drawn out expensive court fees to evict.
