It's not about Goff needing protection, it's about protecting the guy with the ball, which is Goff for at least a portion of every play. The lions do it well. Everyone blocks for whomever has the ball.

@@c1985paulNot true! As highly rated as our OL has been at the beginning of each year, it’s almost never stayed healthy. More often than not, Goff has not had a top five OL to play behind, and he’s done just fine. At the end of the 2022 season, PFF ranked the Lions’ OL at #21 for Pass blocking, and #9 for run blocking (the OL was injury riddled in 2022). After Hockinson was traded at mid-season, the only noteworthy pass catcher Goff had to throw to was Amon Ra - Goff still led the Lions to be the #3 offense in the league.
@MarkLeBayКүн бұрын
2023 - week 6 on the road against the playoff-bound Tampa Bay Bucs, Goff was without a run game or a true #1 WR and the OL was not playing well. The rush blocking managed a pathetic 1.8 ypc (40 yards on 22 attempts) and gave up three sacks in pass protection. Goff carried the team on his back to victory distributing passes to 10 different receivers for 353 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 int.

I watched Nick's comment when he said it and he is wrong either way. But he was saying that some quarterbacks in the league are superheroes and the rest are just civilians. He's trying to make a distinction that there are some quarterbacks that are playing at levels above the norm or above civilian level efforts. He thinks Goff is not one of those "superhero" quarterbacks.

If anything, Dery is the clown with his old ass Jokes. "Let me reach for my kicker list, har har har..." his stupid ass nicknames for every player and disrespectful "opinions" get annoying quickly. The only reason I listened was because Locked on Lions 30-minute format is good to download and listen to daily on the way to work. Other than that, he is pretty awful and repetitive. @DetroitDen313Күн бұрын
That celebration came from his focus on football.

@GABRIELGIESEL interesting take. We completely disagree. Narcissistic players definitely don’t block as hard as he does for his teammates. Again the celebrations have been paying tribute to players of the past. Definitely entitled to your opinions. Time will tell. Also Amon Ra has flipped into the end zone and dove backwards in the end zone last week landing pretty hard. These guys are playing great football and enjoying themselves. Matt Derry did mention Jamo for giving out Turkeys. Either in that episode or in a follow up episode. In fact, he usually gives him credit when he does positive actions. He just gets overly critical because he thinks Jamo hurts the Lions when he misses games due to bad decisions. Matt can be push it to far, but for you two to call him out for not pointing out positive actions, when he actually did, basically just shows you didn't do due diligence before speaking and looks like lazy reporting.
@DetroitDen313Күн бұрын
If you think we’re going to go searching thru his show waiting for him to say nice things you’re mistaken. It’s about narrative. However, after people made us aware we did trace back to check and he did some very brief mentions from what I’ve found nothing near the intensity of when he goes negative. Podcasters put out a ton of content other than just their show if you understand how this game works on the marketing and promotional side. He’s narrative isn’t pro Jamo and furthermore he’s not even really a “Michigan sports” guy. In this field there’s better ways to address things you don’t agree with than calling our players clowns and saying they’re “act” is old. Especially when the young man is paying homage to the great players before him. All that said appreciate the banter.
@Mbarwick7Күн бұрын
@DetroitDen313 I wasn't expecting you to go through all his content looking for positives. You called him out for negative comments made towards Jamo, and I agree with you for calling him out. You made an assumption that he never made a reference to Jamo giving away the Turkeys and you were wrong. What I was saying is to call him out for what you 100% know he said, and leave the assumptions unsaid. I like content. I watch it everyday, just want to see you guys giving out true facts instead of wrong assumptions.

Never compare Goff to Mahomes, trade teams and the Lions with Mahomes would put up astounding numbers surpassing what he's already done. Put Goff on that KC team and Goff barely makes the playoffs. Goff is surrounded by the best talent in the NFL. Also, Mahomes could win a third Superbowl in 3 years that nobody has done ever, Goff in his lone Superbowl was a bust.
@MarkLeBayКүн бұрын
No. Goff would do great in KC. Goff has done more with less talent around him than just about any other QB in the league.

@@MarkLeBay Goff is surrounded by the best talent in the NFL, if you dont know that you dont know football. Also, Goff would probably do badly in KC, the offensive tackles are awful. Some of Mahomes best players are injured and Kelsey is going downhill. LaPorta is just plain better. Goff has the best line, the best RBs, the receivers are top level and better than anything Mahomes has.

@@michaelpatterson4372 Yeah, Goff has elite talent around him this year, and he’s producing some the best numbers of any QB in the history of the NFL. What did Goff do when he didn’t have elite talent around him? Without an elite OL, Goff is still great. At the end of the 2022 season,, PFF ranked the Lions’ OL at #21 for Pass blocking, and #9 for run blocking (the OL was injury riddled in 2022).
