Lawd Lawd Lawd!!!! How I remember the days when folk sang like this, and the musicians let the voices be heard, and the director made us watch him! I'm so glad I came through when I did, and for the opportunity to hear great choirs like this during my visits to Toledo, Ohio to visit 2nd Calvary Baptist Church. Thanks for sharing this.

Madame Hulah Gene Dunklin Hurley of Detroit, Michigan passed away Wednesday, January 25. 2006. Gospel scholar David Jones told TBGB that she was in the hospital for a routine operation, and suffered a massive heart attack. Hulah Gene was a member of Rev. James Lofton’s Church of Our Prayer Choir (“Great Day,” Prosperity and Vee Jay, 1954) and a regular soloist with Rev. Charles Craig’s great Voices of Tabernacle Choir. Her high soprano voice could be heard soaring above the choir. The song she is most remembered for, and one she reprised for the Detroit Remembers project on the S.O.G. label, is “Jesus Will.” Later, Hulah Gene and her daughter Carolyne recorded a number of singles and LPs for Savoy Records. Recently, she was director of music at New Liberty Baptist Church in Detroit.

Mrs.Hulah gene Hurley's 1959 recording of this song is phenominal,She recorded several L.P.records between 1959 and 1974 with James Cleveland,The Voices Of Tabernacle Choir and her daughter Carolyne Hurley.It somewhat saddens me that folks will hear newer (LIVE) versions of her earlier hits and think that she's singing somebody else's original recording.Oh my God in heaven...This lady has recorded some absolutely spine tingling recordings not heard today or even uploaded to You-Tube!

Pure d singing right here. Without all the synthesized equipment to cover up the mistakes like they do these days. You had to really sing because all they had was piano, organ, drums, bass player and maybe(on a special day) a lead guitar and they played under the choir and even moreso under the lead vocalist.
