Kasper is a late birthday in April. He just turned 18. Playing in the men’s league at age 17 and did very well in the playoffs is very impressive

Buchelnikov is my favorite prospect we drafted. He’s probably the biggest boom or bust player from the draft. Kasper is going to be a NHL regular and I think will develop into a elite two way center, but Dmitri has superstar potential all over him. He needs a ton of work defensively. Obviously now that he’s drafted, he’s going to have a list of areas to work on. Hopefully he can keep up his play as he advances to a more elite league.

@@MagicMan11130 the kid is crazy good. I rewatched the u18 tourney today, and watched the Russian games, he has a lot of potential. I see a lot of butt hurt wings fans about this draft. I think we did really good. We had a very safe draft, and filled a lot of holes in our roster. We need guys like Kasper, who are for sure NHL caliber players, and are just as good offensively as he is defensively. We desperately need that. We need guys with heart. What we don’t need is a guy like Savoie who is really flashy, but if he busts, it sets us behind in our rebuild. We can’t take those risks at this stage of the rebuilding process.

Dmitri Buchelnikov at 52. is steal of the draft. Reminds me about Kucherov. His puck skills are in another level. He is overager and bit undersize so that is why he dropped to late second. Also he haven’t play in KHL yet. But you just can’t show much more in MHL than he has. Absolutely domination there, he is a beast.

You're not going to see the impact right away. But you can see the type of players the Wings have been drafting. Big defenseman, smart intelligent forwards, players described as gamers,who compete hard, and who are hard to play against. This team in the very near future has the potential to start turning heads and making some legitimate noise around the NHL.

After the 1st pick now the real demonstration of who has the best scouting begins. I have been saying for quite awhile LW was a real need as there is a chance Bertuzzi departs via free agency, which for him is a smart move if he has a great stat year and I would not blame him for exploring the market.......So James and Buchelnikov, were quick back to back selections addressing insurance for left wing but both won't be ready immediately. They are not Bertuzzi type players though. You still have LW Berggren who really did a awesome job with GRG. I would not rule out a possible LW/C UFA signed also just in case and to safeguard for Fabbri not being ready to return until early 2023. Will Yzerman make a push for LW Filip Forsberg? or short term deal for LW Ondrej Palat,?

I agree with the context of your comment, however there should be zero chance Bert leaves through FA. If he’s not signed to a extension before the next trade deadline, I’d fully expect Yzerman to trade him. Stevie is not going to let a player of his value walk for nothing.

@@MagicMan11130 If Bertuzzi, gets a hot start with the points, Yzerman probably will offer another long term deal around say November / December. If Bertuzzi counters with a gigantic demand the cap is expanding and Steve could be agreeable to the salary but it depends on Larkins deal. If Tyler gets off to a very slow point total then negotiations will be much more difficult for both sides, there is no choice but exploring for a trade if Yzerman does not see value and paying for it. If Bertuzzi has a great his best interest is to test the open market. Really it is a no brainer as it will be a bidding war between 4 to 6 teams.
