Chris, saying "Relaxed border patrol policies" is a GROSSE understatement -- it's wide open. This series is enjoyable to watch, I build models and use channels like yours to watch and listen to when working. You have a perfect humor to information ratio. Thanks for your time, work and posting..... mike

I imagine many of the "lost" mansions of Grosse Pointe were simply too large and while most likely still in perfect order, were demoliahed and replaced by more modest, liveable and easier to manage than the great estates of the early 20th century. Maintaining such palatial residences would have required a substantial staff of caretakers and servants, which would be prohibitively expensive, if one could even find the staff.
@pyrexmaniac Жыл бұрын
Those relaxed border policies do not exist on the border that the Ford house faces between US and Canada.

Should've been named the 'Monaco of Michigan' instead of Grosse Pointe Shores. Would've been way more fitting lol. But, as a native New Yorker, this neighborhood reminds me a lot of Malba Queens. May be biased, but my favorite neighborhood in all of Michigan is Detroit's Indian Village. It has the same feeling as Forest Hills Gardens. Anyway, long-time viewer of the channel, I'd like to say thank you for all that you do. Happy holidays and much love to all Michiganders from Midtown Manhattan. God bless.

Sounds like you're familiar with Monaco, is it? I would say you're about 2 hrs to the north of Provence. There's even a Provencal rd , directly off Lakeshore dr. Old money families, ie the Dodge estates. If you like Indian Village style towns, it's younger cousin, Birmingham has some beautiful neighborhoods with similar character. Franklin too lol 👌

If I got money, I move out of state. There isn’t even a movie theater or entertainment nearby and there more hospitals than there are gas stations. Martha Stewart bought a house that belonged to one of the Ford's. It came with the stipulation that the driveway must be covered in crushed red limestone. Every fall they scoop all the stones up and replace them in the spring.

Yes, the property is called Skylands, on Mount Desert Island, Maine, it’s a beautiful stone 35000 sq ft summer house built for Eleanor&Edsel Ford in the 1920’s. The crushed stones are scooped up, washed and stored for the winter, then put back down in the spring. Martha uses the same stones the Fords used.

It's revealing that these houses are nothing special, plunked down to a grid, slavishly square to the road, like row housing. Who wants to look out and see traffic, or worse, other people's houses all around you? The lack of imagination and originality tells you everything you need to know. The Ford house is the only exception. After that, there's nothing worth mentioning. A study in bland mediocrity.
