Your the man for the old detroit diesel 2 stroke. Not to many on KZbin but I have learned a lot by watching your guys videos. I got my self a 1979 4-53 T that'i am going to do a engine swap on a 1992 gmc topkick c6000 with the 366 i will make a you tube video on the project.

@detroitgarage9430 thx yes for parts there's a shop that still has a lot of detroit diesel engines by me in riverside California they are like my local people for parts.

I don't know how easy or hard it is now to find parts for those engines now. Back in the day we had a few 3 and 6 cylinder Detroits at the shop waiting to be rebuilt when needed. We got parts from Stewart & Stevenson and kept liner kits on the shelf. They didn't like to be lugged very long or they would pull a sleeve. It's good that you've got spare parts to use and experiment with. I would guess they aren't as easy to get as they were in the early 80's, but you've given the old girl new life again.

Overhaul parts are still available, but some things like governors, blowers etc are getting scarce. I've stock piled a hoard of parts, so I should be ok for the next 20 years or so.:)

the upgrade on your dyno instruments would be a real help to understand what's going on. I was embarrassed to ask about that. Thought I was the only one not getting it. This 4-53 power add on mix and match series is gonna be real interesting for me. If you remember I commented a long while ago about this old Jimmy mechanic I ran across 25 years ago who told me of his experience with built US military 4-53s used in armored vehicle applications that were putting out amazing horsepower. Of course in those situations there's no constraints on what you do. I'm really liking it. Thanks!

I'm glad you're enjoying it.:) Should be a lot of fun to see the different injectors, blowers, turbos etc. I've add two 7A77's and two home made 7E75's in it now and runs smooth.:) I'll dyno it this Saturday and see how it performs. I've never tried mixing injectors like this, so see how it does.:)

Lots of power adders to test out. That lb7 intercooler fits up nice. Banks says the intercooler adds as much power as a turbo, so let's find out. 🤷

amazing, yes I really enjoyed the dyno work out, it's running great and making almost the same torque as my 1st gen 5.9 cummins (400 ft lb) unbelievable lol, the fine tuning will make it scream even more lol, can't wait!

In the day when they designed the Silver 4-53T, there direct competitor was the Cummins 5.9 due to be released in 1984 for Case-Cummins.:) Deere and Duetz were the other two.:) Of course the brochure has the Silver winning in all categories.lol Having owned a first gen Cummins for 13 years, I can say it was own of the best engines I've ever owned.

Would be interesting if you came up with some kind of common rail or DDEC style injection. I don't know much about these other than what I've read online, but I've seen a few channels who've done some like that with good results. Probably not cheap, and lots of fab work tho.

DDEC is not too difficult, but spendy.:) I'll stay with the simple mechanical governor and MUI injectors.:)

Looking forward to the injector episode as well. My diamond in the rough 4-53n has 2 c50 and 2 N50 injectors and both the C's were stuck. The worst one now freed and uninstalled has just enough play in the spring that if i rotate the spring correctly i can shake the retainer pin out with any spring compression and i am afraid to run it like that. I guess that if there was always some compression on the spring when it is installed it might be ok ....but for now it is holding me back

Be posting up the injector video soon, mixed two Reliabilt 7A77's and two home made 7E75's. Very similar fuel delivery, so going run it on the dyno and see. Installed them and did a quick run and runs very smooth. See how it does on the dyno.:) Being the injector follower is always compressed, you should have any issues..:) I have a few decent used springs if you're interested.:)

I've not seen one of these injectors apart before, so that will be interesting. Are you going to do a video of the blower rebuild, too? Blowers and injectors were something we bought as rebuilt units.

I was just wondering if the other businesses in the industrial park get perturbed when you got the two strokes out working, good idea on muffler…they are obnoxiously loud straight piped. Any chance of you running a blower bypass to the air box cover on the other side like you have on your super duty? I’m intrigued to see what type of benefit it truly has, I’d speculate its advantages…

I do most of the noise on the weekends, a little during the week if I need to move something etc, but leave the noise for Saturdays. Most of the businesses are closed then, so keeps everyone happy.:) Muffler will arrive next week, so looking forward to a quieter Jimmy.:) I'm not sure I'll build a bypass for the N blower, but it's tempting. As I have to build the cac piping for the intercooler, it's not much to add the pipe and bypass for the blower. I'd use smaller pipe, like 11/4" instead of the 2" I have on my truck. I'll have a better idea once I run the Silver bypass blower and see what the benefits are.:)

You should try and do a all out horse power no matter the smoke just to see what you can get for horse power/torque out put...

Oh absolutely.:) I'll be testing up to 100cc injectors, which can be bumped to 115cc.:) I'm also thinking of buying a set of NOS 130cc units as well, but see how the 100's work first.:)

@@craigmose5898 I'm not sure I answered this or not, but for the most part I buy the injectors on Ebay. I have 8 100mm injectors from an 8V92T, so using those as well.:)

It should be easy to rig up an engine exhaust system through thru your stove chimney. You could then run your engines in the shop and not disturb the neighbors.

That's a good idea, might have to give that a try.:) Do a test run and see, would be nice to stay warm as well.:)
