My childhood, first skating rink my mom took us to. I was 1 of 5 kids we came on a regular, from from the northwest side of Detroit. I was 7 and wanted to skate like the teenagers so the floor guard George skated with me and taught me. I'm always telling people about this rink when I speak about growing up in Detroit 😍💕. So glad to see this.

I never heard of this roller rink - we started going skating at the Arcadia on Woodward Ave in the 1950's. We had a lot of fun back in the day - I still own my Chicago Precisions that my Dad bought me in 1958.

I'm in Texas and i would love to go to more roller rinks, I've actually been working at one for the past year now, and i love it. I actually recognized one of the songs played. If i ever go to Detroit, I'll visit, because it looks amazing. The rink I'm at has so much stuff and what not, but there is also Beauty in simplicity. It would also be nice to learn to jam skate as well.

In Vegas me and my baby sister used to go to the roller rink every weekend-and it was always packed. I couldn’t skate that great cuz I was too used to ice skating, but we had a good time.😊

I'm in CA and I LOVED going to skating rinks like this as a kid even until recently although they closed most of them out here so it's been a while. The history behind it, how it was one of the few places black people could come and enjoy skating and hanging out back in the mid 50's to decades later is such an amazing and heartwarming accomplishment they have every right to be proud of because that's inspiring. Heck, if I lived in that area of be hanging out there all the time n I'm 35. Lol.

The segment producers missed an opportunity to interview one of the younger kids they kept referencing in this clip. Would be great to hear their perspective. I love history though so great segment nevertheless!

Mi from Indianapolis Indiana and I remember back in the seventies. Going to roller laying with my big sister .here in Indianapolis. It's been long gone but I do remember it. being spun and everyone still talks about. Yes roller skating is a big deal for the black community. It's a place we really. Enjoy ourselves but I only regret not learning how to skate like my big sister. 🤦🏽♀️😔
