Downtown and Greektown look pretty nice, actually. Lots of booming nightlife, tourists, visible police presence, well maintained and paved streets snd sidewalks, clean new light rail trains, etc. The outskirts are still bad news but the heart of the city has quietly become a decent place to visit and work in again. I gotta say, these tours of the ghettos are an eye opener. I knew there were some rough hoods around the inner cities of the US & Canada but never seen it up close and personal like this. What is really sad is that a lot of these houses and neighbourhoods could be absolutely stunning & worth a boat load of cash if maintained by the right people. It's amazing how it can all go to shit in a decade or two.

I see a lot of these videos of other cities where they have Asians slapping black women around in and out of stores and police harrassing young black teenagers who have good grades who are only going to and from schools and all this other stuff . I would rather look on line and see this stuff . At least they know they are not going to pull up in there and get away with that . People will mess around and find them selves in a different situation .

Back in the 50s and early 60s Detroit was a manufacturing powerhouse and one of the wealthiest cities in the US. Lyndon Johnson's 'Great Society' and the election of Detroit Mayor Coleman Young in 1973 secured the out-of-control Democrat Party liberalism that resulted in the demise of Detroit and too many other big US cities.

My brother lived in Bloomfield Hills. His youngest son was 13 and began being rebellious. He took the kid into Detroit one night. Into the old neighborhood we lived in back in the day. After stopping the car he told the kid to get out and make his own way back home. He said if he didn't get his act together that is where he would end up, and he might as well learn how to survive there now. The kid was scared straight right then and there. He graduated college and has a fine career now. All of those young black males out hanging in the streets at night, should have a father like my five nephews have. Not one in a thousand has a good future. And that is why Detroit has no future. Get the f*^k out of there kids. It's a big world and not easy, but you can do it. I did. RIP Detroit.

From some one who grew up in Detroit, and still lives in the greater Detroit area. I am white male. My reactions. The video shows the good, the bad & the ugly of Detroit. We still have many neighborhoods that need to be improved. Houses need to either be rebuilt or torn down. It looked worst a few years ago. It is getting better. Some places in downtown Detroit are safer than the suburbs. Running away now, means running into new problems, sometimes. There are fewer of us here now. It just means we like to live here. A lot of people moved to other parts of the country. A lot of them to Chicago to look for work. Another city with its own set of problems. Traveling through the city has its moments to be proud and sad. Angry and happy.
