I've listened to both, album and live version of this song, several times now, and this one takes the cake. Annette's version sounds almost robotic, with no emotions in her voice, here you can hear Tuomas fear, anger, angst, sadness, through Floor and Marko's voices. The harmonies are amazing. The end is like a siren crying, mourning for the loss of a loved one, in this case it would've been our Poet and Mastermind, Mr. Holopainen. You get an A+ for noticing and commenting on the moment Tuomas gestures to cut his own throat. I haven't seen any other NW reactor say anything about this. I think they are cheering because the song itself is a masterpiece, leaving aside it's sad, dark inspiration. PS: I got major goosebumps on the dialogue before Dark Passion Play section starts, this song gets me every single friggin time!

Thinking about it, this may be the most important song they ever wrote. It seems to separate the old from the new. The stories behind the song make me fall in love with it over and over again. @@Detrucci Very good reaction, thumbs up. I think, it can be noticed in two lines of the chorus of "how´s the heart?" from the new album Human Nature. "Burn the rope and dance some more" could be a reference to GLS, in the album Version is the line "Just another loop in the hangman's noose" (afaik they never used this line in live versions). Imho GLS is directly related to Tarja too. Later in the chorus of "how´s the heart?" Floor sings "dull the blade and dance some more" and that, i think, is a reference to the blade of the pendulum. the blade now is dull and isn´t a danger no more. Greetings from Germany

Don't apologize for stopping. It's OK. Tuomas has a fascination for the ocean and watery depths in general. To him it represents the unknown, life, birth, and peacefulness. Tuomas uses terms like "Reach for beauty, find your shore" which to him means embrace life or death and find contentment or relief from anguish. One of Nightwish's early records is called Oceanborn. Scientific theory states that "all life originated in the oceans and spread to the land." We are all conceived in the amniotic fluid in the womb. Your will find many songs and lyric making references to oceans, rivers, and rain. I like your analysis of the middle section about a mermaid or Siren calling to Tuomas while he sits by the shore and contemplates his own death. Hoping that the Tide will come in and give him the death he always longed for! Water gives life and it would be so poetic for water to take life as well! This is an incredibly deep and dark song full of imagery and metaphors. A Masterpiece in every way. Well done Detrucci!

Each of their nine studio albums placed in the top 10 of the Billboard album chart and six reached the number-one spot. They achieved eight consecutive UK number-one albums. Danny Carey said that he was influenced by John Bonham. Adam Jones said that he was influenced by Jimmy Page. Justin Chancellor said that he was influenced by John Paul Jones. I think Ghost Love Score is the best performance and the song structure is perfection with it, Poet and The Pendulum is the masterpiece and now that I know the meaning, probably the most emotional and will always give me feels when I hear it now. With the story added to poet and the pendulum...it could be the best one. @@Detrucci 😁 ow boy....1st I recommend Shallow solo and then with Tim Akkerman 😋 After that followed by Henk Poort or Emma Heesters or the duet they did...👍 There are more seasons Beste Zangers and there is also a Belgian version...Liefde voor Muziek. ...Enjoy 👊

Did you notice the lyrics? "I only have 3 minutes and counting." and then tree minutes later he "kills himself". I have seen this live, it was VERY emotional.

AND the very last part was ( I think) really the words from his mother.

There are not many singers out there that can match Floor Jansen's vocals

funny thing that nobody seems to notice the heartbeats... that will stop before the part V (tic-toc, tic-toc, tic-toc, tic......)

A sua reação foi ótima, mas após o texto declamado a música continua e fica melhor ainda. Curta até o final.

Does anyone know what inspired these amazing lyrics? I think it was a period of writers block, introspection, self doubt, depression and a family who supported him in this dark times... But my guess is worth crap all.. It is just mindless speculation
@Detrucci4 жыл бұрын
That sums it up alot really. Depression and the apocalypse of the end of an era. Losing a huge part of your life (tarja) and just going really deep and dark in life. Sounds like his family was absolutely vital in keeping him just above water enough to crawl back and write this masterpiece. When you see Nightwish today, they really are a family and seeing them all consolidate Thomas in this song is beautiful.

I've been in hospital at suicide watch for 18 times.. one day i will kill myself.. the only reason for living now is Nightwish... Lost my daughter at 2 years in the nineties... never got over it.. but this helps, brother....

You've made so many Nightwish reactions but have missed While Your Lips Are Still Red (Live at Wembley). This should be fixed.

By keeping stopping in mid segment loosing the story. It's divided into 5 sections ideal for comment breaks.

Nobody going in to this video blindly is going to know there are 5 sections for comment breaks haha

@@Detrucci Sorry. Thought you said you had done your research, so I assumed you would know about the 5 sections. They are indicated in the on screen subtitles

@@PhilH919 I did research on the backstory of the song, but i didnt open the video at all or ruin the actual song before i got to listen to it :) Sorry if that wasnt clear when I said it. Usually the research is just backstory to help me understand the song better.

Got to stop rewinding so much. Once is enough. Kind of gets tough to watch if we see the same thing over and over again. Do what you want as it's your channel but just some food for thought.

unpopular opinion: Anette did it better. but fuck me, alright.

@@Detrucci ten years ago, I've seen them live with Anette. damn, I was having the time of my life. she was so warm and beautiful, smiling all along, being pure sunshine. can't get that from both snow queen Tarja and superduperpro Floor. they're both way into being a solid rocks they are. meanwhile I felt like I met a long time friend. you don't need to have an operatic or big ass vocal range to win a listener's heart. long story short, Anette is my Nightwish. and thank you for your support. appreciate it AND your reactions. you seem legit.

Obviously you didn’t do your research well enough😉. The song is all about Tuomas killing himself in the song, the pendulum is his weapon of choice. The song is much deeper than you think, it reflects his dark depression he went through for all the hate he got after having to fire Tarja. But I think you found that out by now😉.
@Detrucci5 жыл бұрын
The only part of that statement i didnt find in research was the pendulum being his weapon of choice
