Everyone who sees the Photo of Deudhunga for the very first time, will be intrigued by its unique geographical structure and features, making everyone curious about what it actually is. The same happened to us, but sadly there was very little information about this. Luckily, we met Nikesh and his friends from Charikot, who knew this place pretty well. After a few discussions, we set out for this mystic holy site, located at the borders between Dolakha and Sindhupalchowk District.
The place exceeded our expectations, and it is surprisingly easy to reach. The whole trip can be easily completed between 3-4 days from Kathmandu (detailed Itinerary below). The trek duration is pretty short and the view it offers is breathtaking. Witnessing Deudhunga was an experience in itself, it’s mystifying, it’s strange yet it's beautiful.

hi ! Its really mind blowing video . I am from bigu village .currently we are doing some development works in deudhunga .in first step we made shelter house which ghumanty mentioned that provide by palika , its not by palike its all made by (donation ) us Mission deudhung samaj sewa samiti . , 55 ft long and 9 ft tall wall,drinking water .and we made ground also .and in second phase job will start on next 4 or 5 month after , making new tempel . Going to establish 50 Kg ghanta and 14 ft tall trisul

far away from my village i.e. a day walk away, a beautiful range of snow-capped mountains stand towering over the northeastern sky. they are none other than the ama Bambarey and her fair daughters. ama Bambarey is believed to be an emanation of ama Tserinngma, the protector deity of our village. a wish-fulfilling goddess of beauty and bounty, revered worshipped and overwhelming in her mere appearance. ama Tseringma was originally one of the wrathful demons tamed into protector deity once upon a time (but that is altogether a different story). equal in beauty and majesty ama bambarey stands flanked by her five fair daughters on each side. throughout time endless the lofty family has stood witness to the no. of the wonderful fable of the land below, of beyyul(the hidden land, Shangrila), and other wonders. now another day walks away from ama Bambarey is a completely different sight(never mind about 'walk' so much as my story is actually about a mountain god walking away!) the lush green valley of Dolkha region opens up below and our road drops like a stone thrown down from the height of sky..from amidst the several kilometer vast valley.. a breathtaking structure of gigantic long stones piled up neatly into such a height rises up straight into the sky! the very sight can chill the spine of any weary travelers. Nepalese called the structure 'dev dunga' meaning the stone god and we 'Apa kyugulug' simply father longish shape. every 15th day of the 8th lunar month dev Dunga holds a special festival dedicated to him when shamans across the village would put on shows and villagers would gather for an equal dose of worship and merriment..in my only sojourn to dev Dunga I found a heap of Trishul in various sizes offered to the mountain god in his humble shrine. my companions could not throw any light on why a weapon strongly associated with lord shiva was offered to the stone god. now the story says that ama Bambarey and Apa kyugulug were once a couple! they have five beautiful daughters and the family was a perfection of majesty and grandeur. the hitch in the tale is that the patriarch loves drinking chang (barley brew) so much so that the peaceful life of the family was affected. it is a known fact that protector deities command utter devotion paired with utmost cleanliness and hygiene. even a single foul breath would make them sick and actually angry. now whenever apa kyugulug drinks chang, the very smell, and the intoxicating chang would make ama bambarey suffer discomfort, ill health, and bad temper. the family hence suffered the vicious cycle of the patriarch affecting the health of the matriarch and matriarch affecting the happiness of the family. so one fateful day the mountain god couple separated. on that day, .ama Bambarey was extremely angry. we have all seen how a fighting couple argues and becomes very angry with each other. the legend says the mountain god couple actually exchanged blows and kicks..chunks and hillocks of the mountain broke away and rained furiously on the ground. there was a booming thunderous sound in the air .it is even said that one of the daughters was accidentally hit upon by one of the furious parents. these days we can still witness the neatly broken top of the side mountain flanking the ama Bambarey. when the fight reached a point of no reconciliation, the very angry ama Bambarey threw an epic curse spitting "thou shall forever be foul, foul to the extent that every passing dirty mongrel would nest by." With such a humiliating curse our Apa kyugulug was also extremely angry and so in return, he shouted back at her "and thou shall stay lofty and lonely, remember lonely to the extent that not even a single bird would fly by your peak." with such curses thrown at each other some people say that ama Bambarey kicked Apa kyugulug away literally and banished him into the valley of Dolkha while some say that after the fight the heartbroken patriarch walked far far away from his family never to be seen by his angry wife but on the way to his new station, he dropped many of his share of property along the way which are all turned into rock and still can be seen .. On the way starting from Sangnag lake towards dhampuk lake, plough wares and utensils sometimes even herds of cattle and also a Buddhist canon all turned into rock of course can still be seen tracking the whole way from puma till Dolkha. Stone canon also lines the rims of ....in the .... The legend thus ends with the couple forever separated in their wrath against each other and sadly solitary against the vast backdrop of Puma and Dolkha valley respectively.

I attempted to write it back in 2014 after a visit to Bigu. we were descending into this Valley and all of a sudden Duedhunga was this majestic structure rising up into the sky and overwhelming our senses. you guys are right. it deserves more attention and appreciation. Now if you guys can only trek to Ama Bambarey, it would be nothing short of legendary combo to this video.. 👊😎
