I disagree on the Predalien. A creature that has the tenacity, fierceness, and speed of a Xenomorph combined with the enhanced strength and durability of a Yujia? That's frightening. The Predators see the Predalien as an abomination and a dishonor.

23:59-24:03 Spoilers, they are. Personally, I think this would've made more sense if they got a hold of Wolf's wrist computer, considering it has more uses than just as a weapon. This concept was used again in Predator: Concrete Jungle, and that game started shoving in connections to the Alien series near the end.

This movie has a ton of small 'amazing' things. like with the writings on Wolf's mask, the concept of honoured Elder Predators that willingly give up on the glory and honor of the hunt, in order to become a guardian instead to others honor and to 'clean up the messes' made by other predators, so to speak.

This was one of the worst films I've ever seen. And I don't say that lightly. This trainwreck had a million cookie-cutter 'characters' who the film eventually can't seem to get rid of fast enough. I love when all the spare ones get rounded up near the end and the film literally shrugs as the military bomb them, just to tie up those loose ends. And the fact only women get 'impregnated' is demeaning, considering a big deal about Alien in general was that it pushed the body-horror stereotypically pushed on women, onto men too. But never mind. This is a stupid, lazy, stock slasher movie using licenses it didn't need.

It would have been awesome to have a group of Predators that need to be bloodied to have a Hunt on a world controlled by Xenomorphs. Have the story be a fight for survival and would make sense to have some predators suck and die due to being inexperienced.

4 things: 1) I absolutely LOVE your reviews. Seriously, you're badass. 2) I am fairly sure Wolf shot the creepy guy to save the little girl because creepy guy was threatening her. In Predator 2, the predator refused to kill the pregnant lady. Some kind of "children are innocent/sacred" mentality, maybe? 3) The Predalien isn't just made up for this movie. It was established in the expanded universe back in 1999, I believe. 4) Lastly, I think this movie was so gratuitous and over-the-top because the original was a very neutered version of both franchises and everyone threw a fit over it. I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan of this movie, but I enjoyed it and understand that it was a meatgrinder for the sake of being just that. No plot to truly care about, just a bunch of dead bodies and shock value.

I think you're right. In fact, the first Avp is suspicious. Segourney Weaver was adamant that she would not do an alien vs predator, but a year before Freddy vs Jason, she was slated for a fifth alien film with James Cameron writing it and Ridley Scott directing it. Conveniently, after the success of Freddy vs Jason, that plan was scrapped and they went for Alien vs predator. They produced it in less than 6 months and shat it out in theatres 7 months after fvs

With the Predalien impregnating other humans, it wasn't the filmmakers making crap up because it's a new creature, it was supposed to be their way of answering the question of how a Queen creates her hive and army, it even has a similar head to a Queen. Of course, they failed miserably at expanding the mythology.
@TheNonEdibleCheese

Honestly, to me, the killing of everyone and anyone was one of the few things I liked about this movie. Aliens wouldn't care who they're killing or impregnating, so it's good to see it in action. They're essentially the perfect killing machines, so eliminating every other form of life makes sense, even if they're children.

The skinning has to do with a ritual that is done with those a Yautja kills because humans are a prey population to them. Skull collection is for more difficult kills. It has religious significance. The things dissolved have to do with getting rid of the victims of the Predalien initiative because its a mistake that has to be eliminated.

Man, I wish they spent more time with the human-hunters angle. A bunch of hunters cum survivalist would've made for a interesting faction, especially sense Wolf is not a pure hunter himself. Seeing a camo-ed human spotting Wolf's landmines or tracking Alien tracks could have been an interesting role reversal. They could even include teenage hunters with their relatives to appeal to the youth, if that would've made them happy. Other then that, I think wolf was only destroying bodies the Aliens killed due to some protocol involving getting rid of possible virus or other reverse-engineer-able biological stuff. Whatever he kills just died of organ failure, blood loss, or other common conditions. There's no need to care about the humans he kills because nothing harmful can come of their corpses. Then again, by that logic he should have been dissolving the Alien bodies after he killed them, so this idea might be crap.

The AvP movies are interesting to me for a few reasons. The first video game I worked on was AvP Extinction an RTS that has little details showing up in both movies. I animated the Predaliens that eventually appear in Requiem and designed the Ancient Preds that show up in the first. I also made some concept art for a giant face-hugger that really, really looks like the one in Prometheus. I thought it a pretty cheap design while I was sketching it. Still fun. I also grew up a stones throw away from Gunnison CO, where Requiem takes place. Besides having trees I don't see much a resemblance to the real place in the movie but there is a great catharsis I feel when it gets nuked at the end. Been planning that one since I was 11. I may be in the minority, putting Requiem above the first AvP movie. I think it may be the PG13 effect which hobbles the first movie so much. We almost fell victim to that on the game with the bosses wanting to eliminate chest-bursting and skull harvesting. I would not have it. No one should. Lemme make clear am not saying this movie is good, more publicly shouting out the reasons I like it regardless which are entirely unique to me. Also I think I may have been inoculated to bad movies by some Mysterious Science in the Theater. Nearly 3000 times, if you catch my drift. I think some of your points including the pregnant women and children victims would have been more effective had they a better artist to frame them. Guilliam, Del Toro or Cronenburg? Someone who knows how to disturb with great skill. A man can wish.

I always hate it when you have a character who could easily have 2 of their weapon, picks 1 up from another dead person and now apparently be super powered. Is it just considered bad form to use 2 plasma cannons? is Wolf going to lie about using 2 so he doesn't look like a wimp? or is this a huge moment in Predator evolution "oh crap guys... I just realised, we have TWO shoulders, we could literally have been using 2 plasma cannons the entire time!!" And then Wolf goes on to be the leader of the Predator race for his insightful thinking, with great ideas like "lets have remote bombs instead of timers", and "If we are using plasma cannons anyway, why not just leave the melee weapons in the past and carry MORE guns". Truly he was a great Predator.

About the Officer, the Wolf Predator merely left the corpse as a warning, marking his hunting zone. He’s basically saying, “Stay the fuck out or else.” Also, from my interpretation, Wolf did these kind of cleaner operations before, but, in the words of Emile from Halo Reach, this op went to a whole new area of basement dwelling.

@celestialspartan1176
@celestialspartan1176 3 жыл бұрын
@@deusdeaconReviews that’s fair. It also boils down to his mask design and facial scarring. Like I said, he probably did these operations before due to his elite status. However, in reference to your comment, the writers didn’t even reveal much about him. All I got from Wolf was that he was heavily armed, blind in his left eye from a previous hunt, that he was a veteran, and he’s resourceful. Case and point, when he turned his second plasma caster into, what I would call, a miniature plasma blunderbuss. Everything else is left to the imagination. Also, will you review Predators (2010) anytime soon? It’s WAY better than AVPR.

The worst movies I've noticed are child slaughter happy and make me extremely uncomfortable because I have four younger siblings and thinking about something horrible happening to them or any child is a major turn off for me with movies especially this film who does it so often. I know its up to the film to explain this, however we have seen that their cloak is effected by external contact, be it water, or bullets, this could be the cloak being damaged as its a feikd, not a camo. The worst thing about the protagonists (even more than the teen slasher lore), is that they had nothing to do with the main plot. Despite being caught up in the clash between the Aliens and Predator, they have no idea what's going on and don't feel involved in the conflict. Compare that to the previous Alien and Predator films and even the last AVP film where the protagonists had everything to do with the main story.

The only interesting thing that this movie's got for itself is shit happening at several locations. That was actually a good idea.

The only redeeming quality of this movie is Wolf honestly. The Predator was a legit badass. Had they focused on Wolf overall, this would of been way better.

I know Wolf is a fan favorite amongst the AVP fandom, but personally, I'm mixed about him. The only positive side is his gadgets and his combat skills that fit his character as an Elite, but he's terribly written as he's causing a lot more carnage and damage than what the Xenomorphs did, and he even broke the Honor Code by accidentally killing a civilian, which considers punishment in Yautja society. And a teen slasher movie about a Xenomorph and Yautja would've been nice if the characters are interesting enough. If you played Until Dawn, you can see this game is more than a generic teen slasher film as it turned out to be a monster movie featuring Wendigos, and you can control a character to keep him/her alive to add more development, and you can only make the killer or monster a lot more interesting, like having a Predator as a Bad Blood since Bad Bloods kill unarmed prey and each other regardless, or a Xenomorph as an escaped prisoner from a crashed alien ship.

has anyone noticed theres an odd amount of characters in the alien films called dallas? Alien, covenant, prometheus (i think), avp requiem, any more?

well i know the dallas in this film is a deliberate reference to alien, but theres no dallas in prometheus and covenant though.

i thought i noticed a Dallas in covenant, im not a fan of the prequels so im not to sure, im always hoping for a new film that continues the original 4 to redeem the trainwreck that was alien resurrection, would be cool

Just had a thought on the weird teen angst thing as well, why was the girl he likes friends with bullies if she isn't a bully? I know it's a dumb thing other teen coming of age films do, but it only works in a film setting where the didn't exist until this moment, if they had any sort of history it would imply she often watched them bully people and was on with it, or somehow they hid it from her until right then.

I just thought... did they add in a mini-plot about the kid preferring her dad as her mum is hardly home, then solve that arc by killing the dad so now the daughter only has her mother? I mean that's one way to solve that problem I guess... though it'll probably cause issues later when she ends up in with a live in nanny raising her while her mum is serving.

personally I don’t think she’d want to serve in a military that nearly nuked her in the face, but i guess that just me
@Barnesofthenorth
@Barnesofthenorth 3 жыл бұрын
@@deusdeaconReviews I guess that solves one problem, though I'm unsure you can get out of the military early by claiming "I was in an alien invasion and you tried to nuke me" as that is more likely to lead to being locked up. It's still kinda shitty to solve the problem of soldiers coming home to kids who don't know them with "but if your partner dies they only have you!" Just shows how little effort they put into the side stories, then weirdly didn't put much effort into the main thing either.

Thought this one was wayyyyy better than the first AvP. Mostly because the Predator was done so much better. Also, while the whole thing with the Predalien killing babies and women did disturb me, I guess you could argue that that's the way this creature would be. Lions don't really have rules for which animals they kill. It's doesn't make distinctions, there is no reasoning, nothing you can do to escape it other than finding a way to kill it.

A bit late to the party, but still wanted to point out: Dalla´s love interest totally pulls a 360 on her behavior, her tune, a bit before shes killed off. She kind of fades into the background, with hardly any lines or dialogue anymore, just tagging along and coming across more selfish/stupid. No Idea how long the movie was in production or in what squence the scenes were made, but maybe the actress left the movie half way? (Not that it makes it any better but I found that change in behavior interesting and quiet noticeable). And a question, is it normal for a "backwater" community in the states to have such huge/wide sewers?

" And a question, is it normal for a "backwater" community in the states to have such huge/wide sewers? " Actually, real life sewers arn't that huge at all, they are really small & really tight, the largest they can get, well width wise that is, just take a look at Bishop in the Aliens movie, yeah not much really, if even they are THAT HUGE in this movie, it's more less for chemical plants, industrial plants & things like them, but even they aren't that huge at all, Hollywood makes sewers WAY TO HUGE then of the real life ones, so yeah, so never believes what you see in Hollywood movies....

To add onto what DLSMaster said. The largest sewers in the U.S will fit a person crouched over heavily and in single file when moving through them. When you stop in place. Your basically kneeling or leaning against the wall already.

Have you ever seen a BAD film of your favorite superheroes? I still cringe at DareDevil and Spawn. Mainly, because they both impacted my childhood. Spawn was hip and cool while DareDevil was badass (mom was a special child therapist, so they had lots of daredevil comics at her office)

I know this is a small detail but one that really irritated me. When "hero" soldier mom gets home and just casually hands her little girl her military issue night vision goggles (NVG's) What a crock of shi+. There are 3 items issued before field training or deployment: weapon, NVG's, and a dagger for land navigation. All are sensitive items and 100% accountable at all times and turned in to a locked and secured armory before anyone goes home. Soldier mom would be looking at court marshal for stealing a sensitive item and allowing her child to use them as a toy.

Things like killing kids or animals in a movie *can* be done right, but only when it's written in a way to demonstrate something about the monster or villain the movie is focused on. In this one, it only demonstrates something about the film-makers, and nothing particularly flattering
