Hollywood will never let us forget their version of the events, while those of us who have done even the most scant research know that every war is a disaster for all involved. This will be a nice break from the commonplace trope in the way German soldiers are usually depicted through the mainstream. Ahhhhh a WWII film that is worth seeing! No propaganda even though the war has been long over for over 70 years. Looks authentic in terms of the gear they were carrying around. Let this movie show how the war really was. Fighting because you had to, and not glorifying just one side about this.

Agree everything would be sound proofed, a story was passed down from an old vet that american troops in ww2 using cut strips of rubber from gas masks to wrap or tie gear down gear to stop the rattleing. We used electrical tape in my day to do the same. We would jump up and down and run short sprints to ensure no noise was made

Why do you think they had bright Marlboro packs on helmets and rolled sleeves in Vietnam? Things that may seem obvious today may have not always been so. The German soldiers fighting in Finland between 1941-44 had to be told by the Finns not to shout orders loudly and strap their gear properly in the dense local forests.

I towards the end of the war, the Germans were putting anyone into uniform they could find kids, old men. There equipment and training at this point was probably not the best. When your losing you make do with what you can find.

For me German soldiers were the best, same with the airforce and navy. Many brave combatants elsewhere.too. Nice to see an honest portrayal of such brave people, and the German perspective.

At 1988, being young dude I had the conversation with my coworker, mature man. He was Red Army soldier valunteerly enlisted at 1944, being 17 years old. But he had the sane brain and was not stupified by communistic propoganda. I asked him, why did you enlist? He answered, I did not have any illusion about what the Soviets were. I wanted just to eate. At the Army they at least feeded people, and my mother worked at Kolhoz , her husband already was lost in the action and still I had younger bother and sister. So he was sent to the paratroop units , but finally he was just regular infantry man. I asked about German soldiers. He answered: They had the courage no less than we, and I do not remember, - told he, - any case when being surrounded they would surrender. Always they used to fight till death. About US soldiers, he just was envy to them. He used to tell , they had the chocolate and in the Chechoslovakia all girls were theirs. Soviet soldiers had no chocolate. Rare of them even knew was is that.

There was no specific ammunition for the MG42 only - it was simply the caliber 8x57 IS (some name it 7,92x57, which sounds more accurate) - provided the cases were made from brass (worked well) and not from steel (inclined to jamming). The same (belted) cartriges would have functioned likewise in the MG34 and other light calibre MG-models, and, removed from the belt, in ordinary K98 rifles or (shorter) carbines 98k as well. However, there were different kinds of projectiles with different purposes and effects.

One can see high quality in the film stemming from historical context and realistic human expectation. These were real men fighting a war that was created by corrupt politicians who included unethical practices. The common soldier defended their country the best way that they knew how but they were pawns who just wanted the fighting to stop so that they could go home. Salute to the brave soldiers!

With the airing of 'Generation War' and its popularity (albeit limited) in the English speaking world I think there is an interest in stories from the alternative point of view. One of my favourite films when I was much younger was 'Cross of Iron' . A good story is a good story regardless of what 'side' it comes from. Best wishes.

The German soldier of World War II deserves more respect and honor. The vast majority of them were humans like you and me victims of a criminal system that sent them into combat. Like any army, the punishment for not fighting in a time of war was death. A shitty situation for the German soldier who may have not agreed with Hitler but still held by law to do his duty. In fact they fought for their families, for their home country and most notably for their comrades next to them! i'm inspired and fascinated by this great and mighty army. And I think it's terrible that they get so little respect!

I always try to argue the same. So few of Germany's service members actually knew what was going on in the depths of occupied Poland. To them, they were taking back the honor stolen from them in WW1, and fighting to stave off the giant that Russia had become. Had the Wehrmacht faltered too greatly in its battle against the USSR, the iron curtain of the Cold War may have well extended far past its historical boundaries.

I've seen this trailer and the preview. I really like the angles of the pictures, the atmosphere and the assence of music. The uniforms looks perfect, even if sometimes appears a bit too clean, but's just a my impression and doesn't prejudge nothing. The vehicles are super too, i hope to see many tanks because i'm a passionate of them. The plots is interesting, i'm really curious about the release date and to see it finished, is something i MUST see entirely!

Congratulations to this excellent made footage. Only 2 scenes of this are more exciting than all that Hollywood-Spielberg and Brad-Pitt-Crap together. If you see those scenes you are rather in it than watching it, and it has such a silent dignity, that´s it.

I love the concept, I am bored of the Hollywood films showing the american side or allies side....we need more of this kind of stories, and not only this late in the war! I would love to see one that shows how it was to be a german soldier when they were winning battle after battle. It is frustrating to see the same "I became a monster/I am fighting on the wrong side" revelation in the films about the german side.

The first following scene should have been kept throughout the approach and continued as he cleared landmines. And to give the viewer a sympathetic feeling for the American GI, maybe showing his face. Maybe he is nervous, scared or cocky. There was a build up of suspense, but no pay off, i.e. action to either thrill or scare your viewer. The camera quality is excellent, great lighting and wardrobe. Sound was very crisp. This was a major stepping stone to a very bright future for the director and those who worked hard behind ths scenes. Congratulations!

Hi Yalung CZ Thank you - the above trailer had a Budget of £100 to: "test the water and see what interest their was in a German WW2 film - from the German view point."Its in no way any propaganda or is meant to be - but just a nice little German WW2 film. We wanted to film from the German front lines as it's an interest to everyone - after all they were only soldiers that were ordered to do what they had to - THEY HAD NO CHOICE it was either die or fight, we must remember that. The finished film will have loads of things in - Bunkers - Tanks - Troops in authentic WW2 gear. Theirs a lot on interest in the second World war.
