I bought mine last week, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Not having to worry about buying ticket before the train leaves or having cash on my for the bus is so worth it. I do not commute or need to be anywhere in a hurry most of the time. I am new to Germany and a little shocked that the bus drivers do not seem to look at your pass, it seems that people just walk on and sit down.

Correct. Bus drivers only control tickets at night. During the day there are floating controllers in trains and busses doing random checks.

How would they accept cash since it's a monthly subscription? They still need some sort of banking detail. Getting on with credit card is pretty convenient, e.g., through VBN.

Last summer, I traveled with the 9€ticket between many towns and cities for my 10 day stay in Germany. It was a very stressful experience with long delays and cancellations, not to mention a big accident which turned a 3 hr direct ride from cologne to Frankfurt into a 7 hour ride with 2 unexpected changes. I wasn't sure what just happened to the German punctuality. Was it the infrastructure ? Was it too many people taking advantage of the cheap tickets? Could be both. So I decided to give it another try in my visit during winter. 2 months of riding the trains between many towns and cities without the discounted tickets and the trains worked like clockwork. Just one big delay and one cancellation on the day of departure (worst day to be cancelled on!!). My guess is that when there are too many people riding the trains for example during holidays, the trains fail to stick to the schedule. So given this, I hope that the schedule is adjusted to the fact that there will be lot more people riding the public transport with cheaper tickets so as to stay punctual. 🤞. Delays and cancellations are no fun for anyone!

One minor addition which might be interesting to know, although it does not affect the "usual" customers of the Deutschland Ticket. The Deutschland Ticket is included in the BahnCard 100 as well. Previously the BC100 could only be used in ~40 cities in Germany within a specified area. Now it can be used for every long distance connection and local transport everywhere. Of course, this comes at a higher cost. 😉

It's really not that difficult to buy a D-Ticket as a tourist as there are regional transport authorities like VBN that accept credit cards. I just bought mine for a 3 week trip in September coming up as we'll be using either public transit or regional trains almost daily. Even with some delays or cancellations, I'm hoping the convenience factor of never having to buy a ticket will far outweigh the occasional delayed train. I mean that happens on ICE too after all.

Great content. One thing not mentioned is that each local transport company may have additional bonuses for their version of the Desitchland Ticket. Like KVB in Köhln has access or discounts to their bike and car share service with the subscription if you have their chip card. But with their app, it'll just be the standard subscription ticket. The Deutschland ticket can be great for tourists depending on the length of stay, but I'd hash out the math and understand caveats to it before committing to a ticket purchase. How many times will I need to use transit before it pays for itself for where I'm going and does it align with my style of trip (driving vs train vs hybrid & visiting more urban vs rural) is the first questions I'd ask.

I am all for the Deutschland-Ticket. Every initiative that encourages people to use public transportation is great in my opinion. But then there's me, living in a very rural area in Niedersachsen somewhere between Hamburg and Hannover. My commute to work is a 30 km trip to the north, while the regional transportation is all set up for commutes to the south. If I was able and ready to walk, run or bike the 2 km to the next train station from my home and the same distance from the train station to my office and back, the commute would add about 2 hours on my daily schedule compared to the trip by car. Now, being "green" in my heart, I would still consider this to be worthwhile - we all have to sacrifice some convenience for the sake of future generations, right? Unfortunately I have a dog. I mean, I am fortunate enough to have a supercute dog, that I can take everywhere, including my office. From what I've figured out so far, I would have to buy a ticket for kids to take it with me. Since there is no reduced Kinder-Deutschland-Ticket, unless the child gets a student reduction, I would have to pay half of the normal ticket price each time I take the dog with me. And that's it The Deutschland-Ticket is great for commuters in urban areas and its super cool for travelers with patience and time. It doesn't help reducing car traffic and emissions for those who live in the countryside at all.

IF you consider doing a daytrip from Düsseldorf to the netherlands I would recommend taking the RE19 to Arnhem, and NOT the RE13 to Venlo. The journey will take slightly longer, BUT RE19 trains are more modern, comfortable cleaner, and most importantly, much less crowded and much more reliable as it takes less crowded rail routes. The RE13 can be quite smelly and also undercapacitated. I also think Arnhem is the nicer and more authentic city of the two so I would say its worth the extra time.

When I used the „Schönes Wochenend“-Ticket to get from my city to Salzburg/Austria, I entered a train at 6 am an left another train in Salzburg at 7pm. During this time I travelled sitting on a seat in the second class, standing in the second class, sitting in the first class (because there were too many people in the second class) and sitting on the floor of a postal service cargo car. It took me another 2 hours and a train and a taxi to get to my final destination, the wedding of a friend of mine, who happens to live in our neighbor city but wanted to marry his wife deep in the heart of Austria. So I have some experience with some of the rules of the Deutschland Ticket. Except that it was no subscription, it was cheaper, it was only valid for DB trains but you could take iirc 5 to 3 people with you on the same ticket. Which led to the situation where you could hop on a train without a ticket and ask someone if they have a free space on their ticket. And it probably often worked. That‘s afaik the reason the DB reduced the number of people on one ticket from 5 to 3. But I just found out, that is still (or again?) valid for up to 5 passengers and now can be used on any day, not just on Weekends: www.bahn.de/angebot/regio/quer-durchs-land-ticket#:~:text=Wie%20viel%20kostet%20das%20Quer,Preis%20pro%20Person%3A%2044%20Euro

Can you please explain how to enter names of family members because the Rheinbahn app lets you add the number of people without names and age. For example if a family has 4 members, all get added under the family head’s name without their names and ages. So if we buy, the head of family will have 4 passes under one name. Confusing really. 😇

Could u please confirm that once. will be glad to hear soon
@leontnf6144

Hmm, the way you describe it does not make much sense. If you want to stop using the pass immediately starting 1st June, how could you possibly only cancel it on 10th June, which is almost middle of the month already. Your payment for June would have been deducted by then. You certainly have to give advance notice period to stop the subscription. Based on my understanding of the video, you have to place your cancellation latest on 10 May. Your scenario is that you probably start your subscription on 1st May so that you can use it for the whole month of May. But you want to immediately stop using it starting 1st June. For the cancellation to kick in on 1st June, you need to cancel latest by 10 May. If you cancel from 11 May onwards, you have exceeded the advance notice period required. Your subscription will then drag on for another month till 30th June, and gets cancelled on 1st July instead. 😅

Everywhere it says “cancel monthly”. Does this mean I have to keep cancelling it every month after this? If I buy the 49€ ticket for June, and cancel it by June 10th, is it cancelled forever? Or do I need to keep cancelling by the 10th of every month??

But the Germany ticket will not be attractive for everyone. Another example would be the insufficient coverage of use, because each federal state is allowed to decide for itself. Whether you can take small children, bicycles or dogs with you. You might have to pay even more. And as I said, the use of the ticket is not possible on all routes, because regional leagues also travel on tracks that are intended for European traffic and vice versa. The German railways are still negotiating with the individual people.

Hi guys! I will attend a 15-day programme (IGCS Summer School) in Berlin from the last week of July 2023 till August 4th. I was booking my flight tickets from India (to Frankfurt), train tickets to Berlin (Flix ones), tickets to Prague (for a weekend trip) and ticket to Warsaw, from where I'm returning back to India. From what I know so far (your videos also helped!), I think travelling using Deutschland tickets in public transportation will take very long for long-distance travel or intercity travel even, and is cumbersome. So, I would like to know if this 49 EUR ticket will be worth it for me to use public transportation in Berlin for barely a week? I must commute from my hotel to the University daily for 2 weeks. Would you suggest some other alternative? Or should I buy tickets every time I board a bus/train/tram in Berlin? I will be roaming around every day after school to do sightseeing. Also, if I buy tickets each and every time, can I use my international visa credit card (which I used to purchase all the tickets online, mentioned above) for purchases everywhere? Or should I carry a lot of euros? P.S. Sorry for the essay-long comment!
@sergefotiev

in Berlin many places will not take your card. bring euros A day pass for transportation in Berlin is about 10 euros. You would benefit from the 49 ticket. 49 ticket (July) + 4 day passes in August = 89 euros 49 ticket (July) + 49 ticket (august) = 98 euros 15 days of buying the day pass = 150 euros
