My teenager recently came out as trans masc. they have curly hair down to their low back and desperately want it all short. We are still in lockdown and I can’t get them to a hair dresser. I told them today I’m tired of seeing them feel sad so I’m gonna cut it all off for them and they almost cried with joy. It’s gonna break my heart to cut off all those gorgeous curls (enter; if only I could glue them to MY head?! 😂) but at least now I’m less worried about making a total mess lol. Much thanks.

This is great! I have been cutting my toddler's hair but his hair is not very curly. My hair is actually naturally very curly but I blow dry it to be a bit more wavy because I prefer the look of loose waves rather than high curls and I think it's because hair dressers never do a good job with my curly hair. Plus they usually give me a hair cut when my hair is wet so there is no way they could tell how it will look like when dry! This is super interesting about which way to cut the curve so it doesn't look frizzy!!

The struggle is real to find a good curl stylist!! I find that is a common frustration with curly hair is when they get it cut wet, and then wear it curly - it looks a bit messy. Yay fr cutting your kiddos hair!!

Teandra, how did you deal with those pieces on the bottom that seem to be straighter? His hair looks like mine in that some of the bottom layer is nice spirals and some are straight pieces -- did you just cut the straight pieces off so they fall at the same level? I can't tell if those straighter or wavy pieces are always straighter or if on a given wash day they just didn't find "friends" to curl with.

LOL! Girl, I know how that goes! Have you tried curl training? I have done that all around my head to help "train" the curl pattern to be more uniform. The best time to do it is with deep conditioner! I am planning on making a video about it because this is a common concern!

What gorgeous hair [on both of you 😉]. I have naturally wavy hair so I have to style it either straighten or use a curling iron. Just got a triple barrel wave/curler which I love and saves me time.
