Developer Diaries: Italian Tank Destroyers

In the near future, a branch of Italian tank destroyers will head to the Supertest.
They will be thoroughly tested to ensure that they're interesting, memorable, and balanced. In terms of their concept, these Italian TDs will have a unique type of gameplay.
Strong frontal armor, a gun with an autoloader, excellent gun depression, and a rotating turret with limited traverse-this set of characteristics will open a world of opportunity!

@@petrjara7559 Bad E4. You are comparing two absolutely different cases. This is autoloader with a really heightened armor and yet it looks somehow balanced with 8 seconds intra-clip. E4 is a one shot gun tank desroyer, which also has not good armor at all and also it's gun handling is below average. Therefore, I find this interesting.

@@genshinrunner3444 How can you talk about this tank's armour or gun handling... If you scale down E4 alpha and reload to 530 and 8seconds it doesnt matter if it has clip or not. First 5 shots it works the same then the clip reload makes the clip worse. Yeah, sorry I did such a bad comparison... I've just could not decide between all the FV4005 and T110E4 which turret TD has the closest to this Italian TD and obviously made a mistake. FV4005 clip potential is much closer to this tank's one and also they share the 24 seconds reload time. Even the turret armor is much more similar... I mean E4 has a cupola but FV is such a hulldown beast I'm pressing 2 everytime time I see it while in my FV

The Semoventes with 90mm and 149mm guns were really more artillery than tank destroyer, though the 90mm M41M did get pressed into the TD role despite its tiny ammo capacity. The Semovente M43 da 149/40 would most likely be in the Italian arty line if such a thing ever happened. Which is unlikely, since how many years has it been since a new arty got added? As for Japanese TDs, I'd definitely like to see them. Hopefully whenever they happen, WoT PC does a better job than WoT Blitz did. Blitz only has 4 Japanese TDs, starting at Tier 7. A "Chi-To SPG" and 3 Ho-Ri variants. The Ro-Go/Hiro-Sha, Ho-Ru, Ho-Ni series, Na-To, and Chi-Ha Long Gun were all left out.

Don't get the drum autoloader. 8 seconds between shots and 24 seconds after the drum. So 32 seconds to clear 5 shell drum and then 24 reload. So like 8 sec reload non-autoloader, but you need to reload for 24 seconds at one time.

Its actually a great system in a way, cuz 8 seconds intra is less than your regular gun with 530 alpha so you get to dish damage out faster but not at a fast speed which will make the enemy have to anticipate your reloads more often

That's right. . . The game is already large enough to warrant 4 servers on the EU, so why not introduce skill based MM in to random battles..

If your performance in randoms is how "skill" gets determined, and everybody gets placed in battles with similarly-skilled players...that would result in everybody's winrates trending toward 50%. Use WN8 to determine it? There's still a finite amount of damage to be obtained on the battlefield. If you're in the "good players" group then you'd be competing with the other good players to get that damage. If you're in the "bad players" MM, you'd be competing with other equally bad players and would no longer have better players hoovering up the damage and assistance. In both cases, WN8 would also start to equalize over time. Or if they used competitive game modes instead of randoms to determine player skill... that would do nothing, because the majority of players *only* play randoms.

@@RedXlV well it could be a loose combination of metrics win rate and such further trying to equalize the weight of the teams skill base to make the teams less one sided. Further more wg should increase the rewards for spotting and assists.

@@WorldOfTanksOfficialChannel somehow u guys need too long to react to "unbalanced tanks". u just throw them into the game and then let is settle for a year. the game is rly great but some minor adjustmets here and there are not forbidden. like -10 dmg per shot on tanks, -3 km/h top speed or similar things. u have some tanks that are underpeforming(rinocheronte) and some that are overperforming(kranvagn). (also the "choice" of tanks for ranked shows it).

So a Tier 10 TD that autoreloads 5 shells in 24 seconds, can do 530 dmg per shot and take most Tier 10 tanks out in one batch of shells. Has insane frontal armor and is described as a tank you do not want to meet head-on which means it can fight to close up. This tank is truly terrifying and also the type of thing that is creating power creep and ruining the game. Brilliant!!!

The German American joined program was to make a new main battle tank that looks remarkably close to the tier 8 (and the premium), 9 and 10 tank destroyers in the video, and it was designed to have a 152mm gun with an autoloader and 2 stage stabilizer, and spaced armour effective against chemical rounds, but not very effective against kinetic rounds. plans fell through and germany went to make the leopards and the united states went to make the abrams.

Italian TD represent WG logic of last years - make new line (premium tanks) that are even more overpowered that the last one. Drumm reload, -10 gun depression, great armour, limited gun traversal turret. In current World of Tanks either you accumulate xp for new branch or use your wallet for newest premium to stay competitive on anything tier 7,8 +. Long time ago it was a game with great variety but with current meta and changing most low tiers into collection vehicles not anymore. The only way to play anything you want in Wot now and having somehow fair chances is to play low/medium tiers to 7 at max

It behaves like any normal no autoloader tank except it has good DPM for 32 second and then ZERO dpm for 24 seconds. Reloading 8 seconds for 530 dmg is not that insane. E-100 with small gun reloads 9.3 (Vent, Rammer, Bia, Food) for 530 damage. So yes, you win 1v1 but overall your damage potential is lower.

I thought for sure these would just be higher dpm autoreloaders like the heavy tank line. But you have Badger DPM while firing. but what about that reload? Also can't use a gun rammer because autoloader lol. The gimick of an autoloader is lost when you can't burst your shots that quickly. Rinoceronte can sort of benefit from a long intra clip (which is 4 seconds not 8!) because waiting a bit more than 4 seconds starts the reload compensation for firing it early. there's literally no reason to have 8 second intraclip at t10. it's basically a badger that has to not shoot for 25 seconds. Maybe if the whole clip was like 16 seconds but then the only advantage you may have is better gun handling, armor, mobility (all of which might be worse than that of a badger) and partial turret traverse.

So T X and Tier VIII premium are WT auf E100's but with strong frontal armor. Why still call it a TD when it's a more a heavy? Also don't see how a driver can properly work sitting in a rotating (though limited) turret.

8 second intraclip is very different from the WT auf E-100. Also, putting the driver in the turret is a concept that's been tried IRL. It *does* in fact tend to cause problems with disorienting him, but in a video game that's not an issue.

@@michaelscaplis Best-known example of "driver in the turret" is the KPz 70 and MBT-70, a joint German-American project that was the predecessor of both the Leopard 2 and M1 Abrams. It had the driver's seat very near the center of the turret and geared to rotate in the opposite direction so that he'd always be facing forward, but this turned out to still disorient the driver when the turret rotated. Also, the Object 416, STG, and K-91 (both front-turret and rear-turret designs) all have the driver in the turret.

They will NEVER buff the progetto. The reason why they nerfed it was because it was very popular in the RU server and many russian kids started crying about it being op. They will never risk upsetting the ru community.
