As usual, everything said & shown through all these 13 mins is so useful ! Even when you're deeply yawning, it makes some of us yawn too (so contagious !) and it's de-stressing ! And then, I take my Fab'Castell "Pitt" pen, putting this great "yawning expression" on paper. Two in one exercise : "How to draw from reference" and "Developing a character" ! Thanks for everything ! ;)

I can not tell you how helpful this video was to me! Been hitting a wall with art lately after some wrong choices in pursuing an education that turned out to be completely different from what I needed. Listening to this and watching your conversation gave me a spark of inspiration that I haven't felt in a long time. I am excited to try the advice you gave your friend in my own designs!

I'm struggling with a painting, so I came to see Will Terrell. -Hey, I'm back. I liked this video so much I'm viewing it again. Thank you Will for making playlists for your various subjects. It made finding this again very easy.

You got this Will! You seem very excited about this idea, just think, after the 100 days other people, besides yourself and the immediate people you've shared this idea with, will be able to read and appreciate it. When that horse bucks you off, you gotta get back on it to show it who's boss.

You know what, having bad days is okay! I have stages where I'll completely beat myself up for not being on the ball, whether it's because i"m sick or because I"m busy and that'll lead to more avoiding because I feel bad that I dropped the ball. I've found that acknowledging that things didn't go as planned then letting it go is a good strategy - then I can stop focusing on "oh, I screwed up" and start focusing on "what can I do to do better next time"

It's always funny to see big bearded guys who look like grizzly bears drawing cute little characters.

Sometimes I get down on myself about many things, but then I remember the Bad-anon prayer: " I'm bad, and that's good. I'll never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me" :)

Have you ever considered teaching/mentoring professionally? I am not an artist - not asking for myself - you are safe! But you come alive when you help others work through things - design something new - your critiques are gentle and encouraging. I just believe your skill as an instructor for the uninitiated is wasted. Thanks for being real! Keep it up.

Love today's video! I'm stuck in the same place in my personal project, so I feel ya. Hope you find your breakthrough soon! :) Knowing others go through this too is assuring. I think the struggle is just part of the process and the trick is in learning to just move in spite of fear or resistance....easier said than done, but a part of the work nonetheless. XP

I think I heard it from Jake Parker first, who said "Finished is better than perfect." I find that pushing through to the end is the hardest part, which is often not as creative or exciting as the initial idea. It's those finishing touches (or edits to the story) that sometimes feel too much like work, and that's why we stop. Stephen King said, "Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work." It's a dichotomy that we think exists, and yet, being creative at times can be a lot of hard work. You're probably at that point, but like usual I'm sure you'll push through, and we'll all bask in the awesomeness of your comic.

First of all, thank you for "activating" the subtitles function, Mr Will. (for this video and of course the previous ones, it really helps the "exotics" like me ! But you know, when I miss a word or other, as an Alien ^^, I like using the Ripley button... oops, sorry, the "replay" button ! ;) So now, stop joking and let's watch/listen carefully to this new video full of great advices, for sure !

Idk Will, maybe you just need a distraction for a day or two. When I'm feeling stuck like that, forcing it just makes me feel more frustrated. Is there anything else you can work on for a day to give your brain a break? Any other characters you plan on introducing later in the story that you can work on for a bit? Maybe doing some extra character development can help. When I was trying to get my first couple dozen comic strips ready to submit to King Features to try to get syndicated, I sometimes felt stuck and couldn't come up with any good ideas. But after I spent more time developing my characters, their backstory, their personalities, I was amazed at how the jokes started writing themselves. I could just put my characters into a situation and sit back and just watch them interact. Maybe something like that can help.

Awesome video! thanks for everyone you post the give me a good insight and info to learn from. though I have a question. you were talking about making a character completely opposite form the original would this end up being an antagonist or a partner to travel with. to have both character grow over working with someone who shares little to none of the same ideology. or is it just a practice. Just to make you think outside the box.

Maybe put all your writing aside and do a new first draft, taking the notes into account. If rewriting feels daunting, just write.
@cutty24047 жыл бұрын
Also, that is damn good advice.
@Rebecca.G7 жыл бұрын
I was just about to write the same thing. It's best to get the story out first, then tweak it second. So Construction lines first, then inking second. not switching back and forth between the two.

I'm reading comics for the first time in 20 years. they changed a lot over the years. I read a Superman comic to my kids. then I picked up a Spiderman one, it's not for kids. Will your comic you do be family friendly?
@WillTerrell7 жыл бұрын
Mine definitely will be family friendly. I try to make most of my content all audience. At least the last 10 -15 years or so. You should definitely introduce your kids to Bone from Jeff Smith. Its my all time favorite comic book series. If they like that they may like the series Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi as well. Luckily, there are many more comics for all ages than there ever have been before and they are often better than the mainstream fair.
@BrokeDad8097 жыл бұрын
Will Terrell wow, thank you for the advice. it's hard being a parent these days because even a PG movie may have themes not good for kids.
