The last video was a great peek behind the curtain, but I'm really happy to see you were able to do this one too and show how it came together. Wonderful stuff, I'm doing a very different scheme for mine but there's still some approaches in here I may try to adapt. I especially like the way you did the axe blade, I love rougher looks like that and even managed to get my hands on darkstar metals already.

How you finding the Darkstar?
@SparkSovereign2 жыл бұрын
@@cultofpaint I'm enjoying them a lot! I like to be pretty rough with my metals, which was something I could do easily enough with GW metals but struggled to do with the otherwise wonderful Vallejo metal color. They've got a good consistency to let me use them in a variety of ways, and plenty of color options (also unlike VMC). Definitely glad I ordered them.

Looks great, I really like the cool grey of the armour and how it contrasts with the burgundy. Also way more readable than the first one, especially for the table

That was the key aim for sure. If it was just for the shelf then the darker scheme ticks the boxes well enough.

Great job. Slaves to Darkness would no doubt be my army if it weren't for the silly little leather boots that accompany the rest of their armored tank attires.
@cultofpaint2 жыл бұрын
Lots of loverly leather to paint though.
@TomeksFame2 жыл бұрын
pretty bizarre... the whole reason you won't play the most dynamic army in aos is because some of the models have leather boots? hmm
@jacobrichards83592 жыл бұрын
But what if we told you it was vegan leather?
@pancakemogul2 жыл бұрын
Well, it's not like those dynamics reflect in the army's performance currently. But those boots are out of place in terms of both aesthetics and tactical ingenuity. No doubt every single blade or arrow will be aimed at them on the battlefield.
@ulose59092 жыл бұрын
Bro I felt the same so I just painted the bottom of the boots the same colour as my armour and then made it seem like they are just leather braces around the ankle/shin.

Would love to know if you managed any more progress with this army Henry? and if you did any of the Knights or Varanguard, how you approached them? Also, do you think you will review and of the upcoming Darkoath models? This is a project I really want to do but boy does it concern me how to paint an army which will have a lot of models with a lot of detail. I normally avoid armies like this because of the painting time, would love to know how you would approach them if you do receive any? I much prefer the new scheme, it looks really cool. The old model next to it looks really cool in a way as well, the much more muted look gives it a very brutal feeling of someone comparrably (even) less interested in looking fancy over being effective at bringing the hurt - might be tweaked a bit into a cool way to differentiate chosen further from standard warriors?
@cultofpaint2 жыл бұрын
I think I’ll have to tweak that original scheme and find a place for it in the army.

Poking the Darkstar site as we speak, there's some interesting colors on there! I may have to snap up a few to try them out, because even though I'm trying to learn NMM as we speak? Unique metallic paints still have a place in my collection and painting, for sure. A bit spendy and the GBP is outdoing the USD right now, but definitely an interesting idea.

The second model I definitely prefer the scheme a lot more. My one minor thought was that, whilst I didn’t think so with the previous model, this lighter version makes the purple stand out relatively speaking more such that the model does creep ever so slightly into looking Slaanesh marked. Just my 2p. Lovely looking model but maybe a bit more Slaaneshy than the unmarked you’re looking for
@cultofpaint2 жыл бұрын
It’s close right. I think I’ll be ok as the units will have banners that are clearly undivided. And I’ll make sure not to cover them in…..alluring things.
@jamespratt75262 жыл бұрын
@@cultofpaint The nature of this specific model is also that it has probably more of the purple accent colour (because of the length of the weapon wrap) than may be the case on the “average” model. So it’ll be less prominent on others too at a guess

Aesthetically the new version is definitely more eye catching, especially on the table. That said, for me, the subdued scheme of the previous model would be more dreadful emerging from the inky blackness of a moon less night to pillage the village.

Show bases would also detract a lot attention away from the model because of their brightness. Not the worst when army painting, but maybe alo not desirable. Especially because you mentioned that you don't like stark contrast (dark model, bright base).

Abteilung 502 doesn't dry fast at all. It is kind of shit for oil paints. Gamblin radiants, Gamblin Burnt Umber, and Fast Matte white are fast drying oil paints.
