Hallease you lowkey reading my mind. I've been trying to figure out my sense of style more now than ever. That transition from "modest" Christian upbringing to representing who you are is hard, especially when clothing was used as a weapon to shame women's bodies. I have a similar build, short torso, broad shoulders. This vid gave me some inspo so thanks :)

Listen, while in grad school I lost like 70 lbs and could finally fit into all of the cute juniors clothings, so I explored wearing more revealing clothings, short skirts, crop tops, and almost everything had a peak-a-boo feature. I was happy with my body and wanted to take advantage of items I could never wear before, although, it wasn't really my style. Like you, I'm more minimalistic, and heir on the side of comfort. I love white and neutrals with a pop of color. Boots in winter, Birkenstock sandals in summer, flowy sweaters and tees. I just love feeling free, comfortable with an effortless type of fashion. I loved this video. The best thing is always to remain true to who you are and your own personal aesthetic.

Girl - I feel ya! I still hear my Nana “You ain’t saving nothing for your wedding night, I can see right through your dress!” Goodness, I’m working from home during COVID-19 and still put a scarf over my lap....ole’ habits die hard! Not to mention I live in South Texas and wear panty hose when I wear a dress. Growing up in a “traditional black church” - the struggle is real! For sure, my style has evolved from my travels and to my comfort! I would classify as Afro- Bohemian chic...nice ring!

I love this! A great look into the way someone else conceptualizes what they put on their body and how they present themselves to the world. My style is quite feminine, usually. I like hourglass silhouettes. I love pinafore skirts and dresses. I wear a utility belt almost all the time (it's a style that makes people think of Renaissance fairs) and wear boots (mostly black) almost all the time all year around. If I need to carry more than will fit in my utility belt, it's always a backpack, not a purse. I love to keep my hands free. I like to feel put together and some variation of cute or elegant while retaining the utility I enjoy. Sometimes, I like to look very sexy and provacative, when the mood strikes. I'm kind of in between plus size and straight size and am pretty curvy, and I haven't figured out making my own clothes yet, so I get really excited when I find a piece that I love

As far as my cringiest fashion phase it’s a toss up between my early 20s “adorkable quirky girl everything is plaid” phase OR the “I go to the gym 5 times a week so I have to buy all my clothes from Fashion Nova” phase. I would say a phase of style I went through was wearing men’s clothes when I went up in weight and more feminine clothes when I went down in weight. It wasn’t intentional, I think I just did so because I felt uncomfortable with my body when I gained weight and also because it was hard to find clothes that I felt comfortable in that was feminine when I was chubby. Now I mix the two! :) and accentuate my waist more because no matter my weight I got a great shape haha Loved this video, nice start to my day

Ah I love this video so much! I've always noticed the cute but comfy style you have in your videos, and I'm so glad to find a video of you walking through your wardrobe! As an nb person, I also loveeee screwing over what's traditionally marked as feminine/masculine. I have fun making new outfits that combine the two or doing one thing one day and a different thing the next. I think that playful energy, along with the pieces being cute themselves, is what gives me confidence. I haven't 100% figured out what my style is, but I think I'm on the way of getting there. I also connected with liking my accentuated collarbones, along with having those days you just wanna show off your body! Looking back it's actually amazing to see how much my style has changed, and will continue to change from when I grew up under a very religious household. I think I also was uncomfortable with anything showing my arms or legs (even in summer) because of the incessant catcalling I'd get in NYC, starting from when I was a preteen. That's why I love seeing others and myself transform to their more confident, true selves after not being able to for so long! Definitely such a freeing feeling. Thank you again for this video and for all of your amazimg content Hallease! :)

Because of my childhood spent in mostly men clothing since that’s all the fashion world allowed to come in more than an extra large; my current style is very feminine. I love bohemian tunics and dresses in pale pastels and creamy whites. I love prints like polka dots- florals, and leopard.I love anything with a puff sleeve or off the shoulder. I would call my style feminine and fangirl lol because I love geeks shirts and jewelry. I have fun Game of Thrones, Star Wars and Harry Potter t-shirts and jewelry ❤️ I’m a Virgo too so I love wearing things that salute my interests or represent aspects of my identity.

How did I just find this??? First off - our styles are basically the same. From the moment you said GQ covers. I love love love menswear. All of my style influences are male. Anyway, I dipped my toe in the scene phase in high school but I was broke and my parents wouldn't let me dye my hair (God bless them for looking out). But it helped me because I knew around college that I didn't really love typical women's wear because of how it fit on my body and how quickly the trends phased out. Like you said, menswear just made more sense to me. I began watching this video being so jealous that you made this video before I did, but now I'm thinking I wanna do a similar video. I love this

I used to wear polos in middle school. I really thought polos and bell bottom jeans were me. Then, like you, once I hit college I switched over to more revealing clothes. Clubbing was a big reason but also experimentation. I learned that I wasn't that confident in it. Oversized was my next place. I was and am still confident in that, but not as happy as I am now. I'm still rather modest but, I try to wear things that fit my body a little better. I do genuinely draw joy from putting an outfit together, too. So that helps. When I moved from fast fashion to thrifting and sustainability, it pushed me into a place where each piece was a reap decision which helped me build a collection based in thought. I loved the video!! ❤

Sympathise with having a short torso :-) I need people to recommend bralette brands to me. I was small chested till my late 20's so never really got into wearing bras, then had a drastic body change and got DD's. I am at a point now years later where I want to wear things that require some support/coverage but bras suck and I need help people! Past bad fashion(wow too much to list): When I was in my early teens somehow I got the idea that wearing stockings under jeans(with ripped knees) made me look like I had a tan!?! Most of the clothes I had growing up during childhood/teens largely consisted of hand me downs from my older sisters. Lots of things were slightly too big and I was a short and skinny kid. I still have an aversion to tops and trousers that should fit properly being too big and making me look(in my head) like a child/boy/clown. In my late teens I wore quite heavy powder foundation which I probably didn't even need, made me look super pale and possibly triggered my skin problems for the next 10 years! I wore lots of overly dark colours & had the idea that pale skinned white people like me should not wear white. No idea why but have since found the opposite is true & that a crisp white top looks great on me. :-) I really should not dye my hair most available colours (this is now an interesting issue as I now have a substantial amount of grey/white hair mixed into my natural brown. I like it and heaps of other people say it looks great but I am curious to see if there is a point where I cave & try to "fix"it). *Side note: I can recommend shaving your head if you ever get the chance, it was probably the sexiest I ever felt. Lastly: I love that I still own a slapband from the late 80's with MC Hammer's "Can't Touch This" printed on it. Not sure it technically counts as vintage jewellery but I am keeping it!
@hallease4 жыл бұрын
I actually shaved my head a few years back, that's how I started this second loc set and you're right -- such a freeing decision that helped me realize I wanted locs again. Also, I get almost all of my bralettes from Aerie and they're pretty good with sizing for a larger bust (surprisingly). I'm a 34D and I wear a medium in most of their bralettes.

Thank your for this video! Your style is authentically you: I like your color palette. I have a short torso too: this was a very well done style evolution video. 😊 In college I tried the revealing style and I didn’t like the attention either. My questionable style was wearing so many tight clothes. They were so tight and uncomfortable. Why did I do that? Now I’m all about easy breezy dresses and skirts. I like how your dresses are standouts and have sentimental value. As I got older quality and having less items in my wardrobe made more sense.

Totally did the whole goth/punk thing in middle and early high school (definitely questionable), which morphed into more of a hippie look at the end of high school, which morphed back toward the dark side with some more edgy/sexy stuff in my early twenties at college, then evolved into a more sophisticated but still rock and roll look in my mid-twenties when I moved to Austin, and now that I'm 30 and travel full time, I do mostly the European/Parisian style that you spoke about here. (I still own two leather jackets and some combat boots, though.) Now I really enjoy playing with style and putting together beautiful outfits that make me feel like I'm walking to the boulangerie in the Marais in Paris. (Incidentally that style will allow you to be anywhere in Europe and not stick out until you open your mouth and people hear your accent.) Fashion is cyclical in our society, but I think it also reflects how we're feeling during that time in our life. Now I finally feel like I have my shit together and love myself, and I think that's reflected in the way I dress.

Literally subscribed within the first minute of this video 😂 Love your vibe and your style. My regrettable past “style” was slightly baggy long sleeve T-shirts under baggy shorter sleeved T-shirts with bootcut jeans and slip-on trainers. If there’s any way of imagining that looking cool...well it was the opposite of that. My *true* style is full-on dumpy, which I secretly love, but when I’m making half an effort it’s simple: knitted pullover and high waisted jeans. Or T-shirt and shorts. I really love the tailored look but I’m not sure that’s my natural flow.

My style hasn't changed dramatically during points of my life it's expanded. I still feel very comfortable in jeans, tank or hoodie which was my go to "style" in my teens and early 20s. But the jeans I love now are more interesting and bold than the boot cut ae jeans of a decade or more ago. I never used to wear leggings, but then I tried them and now I loved them especially the bold patterned ones I can mix with a more simple top. or a bold top. I've had season which I'd feel most of comfortable in a certain look or type of clothing and then that would wane and something else would become my main highlight, but the things I enjoy are still enjoyed and I still love all of the styles and looks that I loved years ago and they get reprisals from time to time. I'm a huge fan of radical self expression through style and attire so for me it's a creative medium I use to express my thoughts, feelings and energy on any given day. Great video. 💜

Enjoyed the video. I grew up in the church life but I have always had a style voice. It has evolved from the Neo soul India.Arie look to fitted bottoms and loose/flowy tops or dresses. As a young teenager, I liked to wear all black and had a grudge against jeans because I found them uncomfortable, so I wore stretchy pants and sometimes cargo pants and lots of t-shirts over tank tops that I wore because the built-in shelf bra was more comfortable than a real bra. I still wear a lot of black, but I've figured out how to buy and style clothes that makes me excited to wear them instead of just tolerating them because they work. And I don't have parents making me wear a bra anymore, so that's nice
