Superb engine. It’s somewhat detuned from its potential, not unusual for the brand, but count on it, when all the mods come it will become a little fire-breathing dragon; the block was built strong, employing 6 bolt main caps. Honda employed variable valve timing, but not valve lift control. Critics claiming the car is too heavy overlook how this car is in the BMW 5 series class size, not the smaller 3 class cars it’s being compared to. Also, SHAWD adds weight, but makes up for it with superior road-handling & cornering characteristics.
@sbfhawk43433 жыл бұрын
Correct and this is why I bought it. The Car with the SH AWD handles superbly. This engine the way it was designed just screams Tune and mods to upwards up to 500 HP with not even a sweat!!! This thing is a legend in the making. Just think B16A , B16Bs 1JZGTE and 2JZ this is going to be another legendary Motorplant.
@Snookynibbles3 жыл бұрын
@SBF HAWK, Good on your, Mr. Hawk! Perhaps most owners might never go with mods, but as we agree, the car can handle them. Already there are various minor ones already available with verified times down at 4.5 sec to 60. A HONDATA ECU availability for the Type S will be a must-have to extract the motor’s greater potential . The Honda haters can yap all they want...one thing for sure is Honda knows how to build engines!

It all sounds promising and is a nice "maybe one day" platform but right now, it's a hard sell unless you are just wanting the looks and presumable reliability. I think it's one of the best looking cars on the road.

Intercooler is too small, wastegate needs to be replaced to a manual one and needs to be tuned to provide more boost... if a 2.0 litter turbo Type-R engine can make 305 BHP, a 3.0 litter turbo engine should be able to make 450+ BHP without any reliability and environment/emission issues... WTF Honda?

A J35 3.5 N/A V6 which if I’m not wrong it made 265whp stock so about 304hp crank only about 50hp less than a turbo V6 makes me wonder where the heck is the turbo on this car, Acura should’ve used that J35 add direct injection to make it both port and direct injection and then add that same or similar twin scroll turbo and boom you have a reliable, good sounding and probably 400hp+ engine

I thought the NC1 Acura NSX had a different V6 engine? I also thought the NC1 NSX had a block and head made by Cosworth? The NC1 NSX engine is not shared with other Acura car lines like the MDX.

Love the car but cannot understand the 4200lbs curb weight..seriously what the f were you thinking? Those of us that appreciate and buy special models like a type s want more sport, not more comfort/luxury and weight (I don’t want auto-start for example). This car needs to be fixed moving forward with an under 3800lbs curb weight (and I mean UNDER, not 3799lbs), larger interior cabin space (the new integra has larger interior space even though it’s a smaller car, wtf?) - reduce trunk space if needed we care more about rear passenger space vs trunk, offer a 6-spd manual transmission and last but not least what happened to vtec? Many report this thing runs out of steam at ~5500RPMs, and it shouldn’t. Basically…everything you guys did for the integra was neglected on the TLX. Brilliant. You’re basically leaving me with no choice - I want a TLX sport version that weighs less than the titanic and I don’t want to go back to a sport compact like the integra, yet that one got what the TLX needed. Come on guys…

Quite curious , why such a modest power output? Was their a higher engine output ambitions from the engineer team ? Was it the emissions restrictions or the fact that it was a dual purpose design for the MDX TYPE S a large suv which requires lower end torque or maybe both? Development costs are always a factor but how does it compare to the k series which i believe were quite high
@RaY_77W3 жыл бұрын
I believe they focused too much on being green when it came to the tuning of this engine they could’ve blown everyone out of the water by giving us the most horsepower in the class but they didn’t….
@jaythomasni3 жыл бұрын
That's correct. favoring low end torque for high output made it tame but not exciting. Same as Mazda's 2.5 Turbo. they too have similar technique for high boost at low rpm.

This is just a modernized GM 2.8 Liter found in the Saabs. One of the only other single turbo V6's out there. They are pretty stout in the Saab's so this should prove to be a nice update. I'm not sure how well that single, integrated exhaust mono block is going to behave but it can't be worse than the 1.25" ID log manifold used on the old 2.8.
