Simon another great video. Caves looked beautiful. I was a bit nervous for you when you arrived at the accomodation. Reminded me of when I used to nurse in the community. I knocked on the wrong door a couple of times... 😂 Looking forward to your next video.

Yes I was a bit nervous, but I was trusting in the friendly Bulgarian hospitality not to throw me out onto the street! Are you still nursing? Wishing you a great new year, and hope you enjoy our travels through 2019.

This gentleman forgot that the English on video that is put to the world must be spoken calmly so that people from other countries can understand. after all, not all countries speak English fluently.

The monument in the beginning was dedicated to the September Uprising of 1923 which was organized by the Bulgarian Communist Party in attempt to overthrow the existing government. Back then Bulgaria was still a monarchy. The uprising failed and the consequences were quite bloody so when communism did eventually come to our country about two decades later, it was glorified and such monuments were built to commemorate it, especially in Northwestern Bulgaria which played a significant role in the insurgence. After the fall of communism such monuments fell into disrepair.

Devetshaka Cave is about 165 km north east of Sofia, about 15 km from Lovech. The cave was rediscovered in 1921, but the earliest traces of human presence date back to around 70,000 years ago. Belogradchik town, which means "small white town", is just east of the Serbian border and about 50 km south of the Danube River. The 2 main tourist attractions in the area are the medieval Belogradchik Fortress and the Belogradchik Rocks (a group of strangely shaped sandstone and conglomerate rock formations). There are also other caves in this area which can be explored. Are you planning a trip to Bulgaria?
