This is not her role, you can barely hear her botttom register. The best part of her voice can never shine in this because she has to assume a different coloring for the most part of the aria.

Laurent Grimal I always respect that.. but the written notes have to be sung no? I mean no matter how good u sing an Eb6 or u do this and that if u omit notes...! Imagine a pianist omitting notes? :D These women are like Hairdressers with unbelievable ambition... that's why classical musicians in instrumental music very rarely respect Opera people

There is a tradition in opera of adapting a role the the individual characteristics of a voice, simply because many of the opera pieces were written with a specific voice in mind. As long as it is done in the spirit of the composer and in a stylistically truthful manner, I think that's fine. However in the case of Devia, when the voice is too far away from what the role demands, you lose the character of the piece and this is a grave alteration. Changing a melodic line should not take away from a role, it should embellish it.

Laurent Grimal the "tradition" you mention was created by singers who couldnt sing what was written, it was never an operatic tradition.. the composer himself sets an optional symbol (an "ossia") on certain notes when he thought that somehow it would be too much for a singer to sing them but the endless cut of low notes was never an Option by the composer.. what all these "belcantists" did was a massacre slaughter of the bel canto repertoire and just because they had an Eb6 (Devia had an F6) they were considered ok by the Coloratura maniacs :D It still amazes me that some people consider Sills a good singer when she had Roland Gagnon RE-WRITE entire passages of music upwards because she couldnt sing not only the low notes but the middle notes as well... she was actually singing a Remake of the operas that was musically and cleverly done by Roland Gagnon and people would go crazy because she added an Eb6 in Bolena for example (that was never written)... Opera fans are stupid (very much like football fans on the Gay side :D )
