@@evgenyomegin Having just finished the game... I think it's absolutely hilarious how much the giant tree is actually glossed over at the start. It becomes a setpiece much later on but for the most part its there but... Who gives a shit. Deadweight and losing my arm. Those were my motivation... Until I started hearing some of the songs. Now I have different motivation.
@evgenyomegin3 жыл бұрын
@@baddus because it's a regular thing in DMC world? Think about this, Nero is a devil hunter, like Dante, and what he does best is slaying demons and taking contracts. First off, he loses his arm, with the Yamato that Dante left him as a memento of his brother, that wouldnt be ever torn away by some lesser demons. Then, Dante takes a contract on Urizen and fails. Who would be the last hope to save Red Grave and the world if not him? V even states that Nero is their last chance to defeat Urizen. I think it's enough motivation to fight the demons. Like a witcher who fights dangerous monsters that kill people, he fights demons. I see no lack of motivation here, it's obvious. People just concentrate too much attention at the fact that Dante mocks Nero and Nero mocks Dante when the time is right not paying attention to full list of events. Like, if Dante didn't call Nero a dead weight, would he just sit still and watch people die because he is not motivated? Absurd.

@@Omega-jg4oq when you say it that way, it really feels like Nero brought it all full circle. Sparda did everything he could to protect his family. Due to the events that cause the brothers to separate, both ended up with issues and not a lot of straightforward brotherly love, but instead a rivalry. Nero, who despite his upbringing had a good sense of family, as well as, if I remember correctly, expecting to be a father if I remember that phone call prior to him gaining his DT, achieved what Sparda wanted his sons to learn, and protect his family. I can kinda get that shift. Nero never knew his family, outside his adopted one. With Dante and Nero it feels like I always have more to learn and get better at, but with V I feel like I hit to skill ceiling really fast.
@BlazeMakesGames3 жыл бұрын
yeah I think a big problem with V that could have made him better is adding more summons to swap between. Dante can change up his styles and weapons and Nero can change up his buster arms and gets more abilities when you beat the game. Meanwhile V never gains any new kinds of powers or anything really. Sure yeah the summons are based on DMC1 bosses so I'm not sure how to do it lore wise but adding more summons or at least *something* to mix up his gameplay more would probably help him feel less boring to play after the first runthrough

I think the fact that he has 3 summons makes it harder to flesh him out. Coincidentally the style is famously used by the Winged Hussars, was called by German Masters as a "Hellish Cut" and weirdest of all its said by people on the web its as if the practitioners aren't guarding their hands (Should have had that advice sooner huh Nero) Unfortunately Polish style is mostly a lost art of combat, thanks to the ups and downs of Polish history its mostly gone, now modern practioners instead reconstruct it using other styles based on how near they are like German, Turkic/Steppe, Turkish and Hungarian.

What a banger of a series. Been with it since the PS2 days, love it to this day. Great to watch someone examine the series from a (at least at first) newcomer's perspective and especially great to see them enjoy it! Personally I'm not quite as in love with DMC5 as most in the fandom (mostly because I'd prefer the enemies to be more aggressive in general and because I'd prefer a slightly higher game speed), but I can absolutely understand your ranking. Good stuff!

I love that Nero is so intensely angry but he is actually very sweet and thoughtful. Like sometimes when you're standing around doing nothing he thinks of kyrie and wonders what shes doing. Like even in moments of crisis like the end. Once he gets the chance he goes straight to kyrie for support. And then he combines that with being so hilairously angry "don't fuck with me!"

I think everything you said was perfectly fair. I will say that i personally prefer DMC1 over the reboot as i love the gothic castle design, and love Mundus being an evil allegory for god. Plus, Air Raid and Vortex to me have never been better since DMC1. As for my top it'll have to be DMC3 on Switch with DMC5 only just behind it in second place. The reason i say this as well is that the only issue i had from DMC3 was style switching and the Arkham fight, as most annoying enemies like the angels and the Dullahan can be dealt with by switching to quicksilver and folding them. The Arkham fight, however, is just abysmal. On top of that, the story imo is better in 3, but DMC5s is also good. As for why DMC5 comes up short for me at least. I feel as though DMC3 Switch has proven that Dante doesnt need to be limited to only 4 core styles. Gimmick styles like Doppelganger and Quicksilver can be easily switched to with a double tap of a style button, yet DMC5 removes Dantes Doppelganger and Time manipulation. And while I absolutely LOVE Sin DT and the Quadruple S technique that comes with it, and see Sin DT as the single greatest form in any series ever, i feel like it only almost makes up for Dantes missing powers that he should have. As for level design, I just think Temen-Ni-Gru and Hell in DMC3 are more interesting and varied than the Qliphoth of DMC5. The Temen-Ni-Gru feels like a multidimensional demonic tower, with its waterfalls, strange domains and hovercarts over lava pits that are far larger than the outskirts of the tower (bigger on the inside, as if each section were its own demonic realm). And the depiction of Hell looking quite holy, like a satire of Heaven that defies the laws of physics is just amazing. The Qliphoth could have been much more. As a demonic tree, it could have housed multiple universes or realms representing each boss, given that its implied throughout the series that Hell is multiversal or multidimensional. So many creative domains could have been designed, but as mentioned in the video, it either has a grey/black wood texture with red human blood globs everywhere, or has an insect hive look, save for the prelude to King Cerb where it is icy and looks cool. DMC5 does serve to be a great character study on Vergil through V, highlighting his compassion, regret, trauma and kindness at times, but also his duplicitous and manipulative side, as well as a tragic self-loathing. As the video said, Vs weakness highlights the fact that V isnt simply Vergils human side. V is everything Vergil hates about himself, and every quality he sees as a weakness. For example, his desire to rely on others (to be loved and protected), his desire for family, his interests outside of his quest for power (poetry and classical music). Urizen is there to signify that Vergils quest for power means nothing without his humanity, as unlike V, Urizen hardly has a personality. It is interesting that both V and Urizen hold resentment and rivalry towards Dante, seemingly suggesting that Vergil sees this as both a strength and a weakness; A strength because Dante serves as fuel for his pursuit of power, and a weakness as Dante has previously proven to be Vergils equal and sometimes superior. It could also be a weakness as Vergil sees any family ties as a weakness, which is ironic considering his quest for power is rooted in love for his mother and admiration of his father.

As someone whose first DMC game was DMC 5, playing as V in my first playthrough was my favorite part. His skill floor is really low, and enemies have so little health on the easiest difficulty that you don't notice how low his damage is. I mean I love the game, but we can’t deny the fact that being a modern game, the developers just thought the level design is not important anymore. So the game is literally a series of corridors. Up until DMC4 the level design was very important, especially in 1 and 3 because it they were built like a Resident Evil-lite game. With a castle to explore and some lite puzzles to solve.

"Even with his new power he's not quite able to put Urizen down." Eh, I feel like that's more unwilling hesitation from knowing what Urizen is. Dante's strong enough to *still beat the immensely powered up Urizen later in round 3,* he quite handily schools Urizen in Round 2. Hell, he does so almost as hard as Urizen beat him in Round 1 weeks prior. That's just something of a personal nitpick in the way you said that is all. Also, gotta love that in the midst of saying that it's a shame Nero doesn't have his busters or his Devil Bringer, you show a DMC5 clip of Nero, in DT, bustering an enemy.
@slkjvlkfsvnlsdfhgdght54472 жыл бұрын
no, saying " he's not quite able to put Urizen down" is correct, while dante certainly *would* have won the fight if it had continued, he wasn't strong enough to prevent urizen from escaping. i'm honestly not sure if dante was really going to kill urizen/vergil, i mean, i know he meant to, but in the moment of truth, would he have been *able* to?
@InfiniteEscuro2 жыл бұрын
@@slkjvlkfsvnlsdfhgdght5447 Don't take my fairly snappy response as a good sign that commenting on years' old things is the usual thing to do. And to answer, not really, I stand by my original point. Dante schools Urizen in Round 2. The only reason he doesn't stop Urizen from escaping is because he hesitates from the tree doing more of its devil shit. Being distracted from stopping Urizen and being _unable_ to stop him are very different. And in the third round, after he beats a far stronger Urizen, yes, he appears to be completely willing to kill him. Remember, as much as he hated doing it, Dante made the vow to stop Vergil by any means necessary (up to and including killing him) even so far back as DMC3. He never wants to, but he's willing to if its necessary, and it was. He didn't even want Vergil to come back, given that he was trying to stop V, and at the end of the game the only reason they don't (more than likely) kill each other in a draw is because Nero steps in. Dante, since practically his inception, has always known that stopping Vergil may mean killing him, and he's always vowed to stop him.

Okay so basically there are two guys henry emily and william afton they start a family pizza restaurant together called fredbear's family diner, one day william locks henry's daughter charlie out of the restaurant and murders her outside, as seen in the fnaf 2 save him minigame and the security puppet minigame. charlie's soul goes on to possess the puppet animatronic. then in 1983 william's youngest son dies in hospital after being bitten by the fredbear animatronic as seen in fnaf 4, which causes fredbear's to close and the springlock suits to be decommissioned. the bite victim's soul goes on to possess the fredbear suit due to the suffering he sustained from the suit (this is explained in more detail in the fazbear frights epilogues). freddy fazbear's pizza is then opened. in 1985 william afton kills 5 more kids in a freddy's, and their souls go on to possess chica, bonnie, freddy, foxy, and golden freddy/fredbear (which now has 2 souls possessing it, directly paralleling the stitchwraith from the book series). that restaurant closes down but freddy's gets rebranded and has a grand reopening in 1987 as we see in fnaf 2. meanwhile, william opens circus baby's pizza world, featuring kid killing animatronics, however his daughter elizabeth gets killed by one of the animatronics (baby) and goes on to possess her. william sends his oldest son, michael, to go free her from the facility, as seen in sister location. back to freddy's - the fnaf 2 location stays open until the bite of 87, in which it's implied nightguard jeremy fitzgerald gets his frontal lobe bitten off by one of the animatronics. then fnaf 1 happens in a location that exists in 1993, not much lore there. after the 1993 location gets closed, william gets springlocked in the spring bonnie suit inside the abandoned building, becoming springtrap. Back to Baby in SL. Michael, after a week of working there gets lured to the scooping room by Baby in order to get his insides become outsides so that all the Funtime animatronics (now fused into Ennard) can use his body as a fleshsuit to escape the facility. Over time the suit starts to get rotten and more and more decayed. Michael body now turns purple and draws more attention (Note: there are now two purple guys, Miachel Afton, who is litterally purple due to decay in his fleshsuit, and William Afton, who isn't litterally pruple but the purple colour signifies him hiding in the shadow.) and the Funtime animatronics now as Ennard have to abandon ship in search of a new body. Somewhere down the line Baby tries to gain full control of the Ennard body and gets kicked out of Ennard, now becoming Scrap Baby and Ennard becoming Molten Freddy, both seen in Pizzeria Simulator and UCN. Speaking of…this brings us to Pizza Simulator, where our good friend Henry creates a decoy pizzeria intended to lure in all the loose ends which are: William Afton as scraptrap, Molten Freddy as the funtime animatronics, Scrap Baby as William's daughter and Henry's daughter, Elizabeth who posseses the puppet and gets lured in by her father by the animatronic Lefty. Before we get to the ending of pizza sim lets go over some key lore drops hidden in the game. When you buy Candy Cadet he has a chance of telling you 1 of 3 stories a day. All 3 stories follow the same pattern. 5 things becoming 1 thing. (5 keys melted into 1 key, 5 dead kids tied together and 5 dead cats sown together into 1.) This could be reffering to the funtime animatronics together becoming Ennard. On to the 2nd mingame: Secutity Puppet. When playing this minigame for the 3rd time we can see Henry daughter, Elizabeth locked out of the Pizzaria where she gets murdered by Afton, becoming his 1st victim. Next we see the puppet slowly crawling towards her dead body hugging her, and Elizabeth posesses her. When brightening up that same image we can see purple tire tracks from William when he fled the scene. And now for out 3rd minigame: Midnight Motorist. This game in labeled 'later that night' in the game files so we can assume we are playing as Afton in this minigame. When on the 3rd lap, we can see a crack in the road, in we go down it, we end up on a road leading to Jr's a bar/restaurant (presumably the fnaf 1 or 2 location or freddy's family diner) which Will isn't allowed into. The 2nd place we can go to is a house. The afton house. When will sees that his youngest son escapes thru the window to the freddy's restaurant he gets very angry. This most likeley causes William to create the sound illusion discs to scare his child and creating the nightmare animatronics in his mind to make him afraid of the freddy's restaurant. The sound illusion discs are also uses in fnaf 3 to create the phantom animatronics in the players mind. Thats why they also never kill the player in fnaf 3. This brings us to our 3rd and final minigame: Fruity maze. With help from the books and this minigame we know that the child who posseses Chica in fnaf 1 is the girl in Fruity Maze named Susie. This is all this minigame really tells us. Now the Pizza sim Ending. On the 5th night we hear Elizabeth, Henry's daughter talking but is interupted by her father. Henry reveals the pizzeria was a decoy, to lure in and capture all the loose ends and finnaly putting a stop to Afton (He never really dies i'll get to that later) . Everyone dies in the fire and the souls are finally put to rest. Onto UCN. In UCN we play as William Afton in purgatory, tormented again and again by his own creations. Thru the game we learn many things, such as that Chica was the 1st child to be killed and stuffed and possibly the first animatronic to be given life by the puppet. We also learn about 'the one you should not have killed'. This is presumably talking about the child that posseses golden freddy but as mentioned earlier, golden freddy could have mulitple souls inside of it. This brings us to fnaf vr: help wanted. The point here is that William Afton's soul is possesing the game becoming Glitchtrap (I will get into some theories about how this could've happened later). Through the game he posseses a game tester named Vannessa or Vanny (Vannessa+Bunny) which will most likeley be the main antagonist in fnaf security breach. William uses Vanny to continue to kill kids, even though his body is still in purgatory. We will probably get more information on her when security breach is released. Now onto how Afton's soul go tinto the game's come and possesed Vannessa. In the fazbear frights book series we read about two children stuck in the stickraith's body. One of the kids is said to be killed by Afton. He tells us how he is keeping him alive, to be forever tormented. In that same story we read about 'the patient in room 1280'. It is about a man in a hospital, burned beond recognition but somehow still alive. That is obviously William Afton. When the boy finnally decides to let Afton die, his last request is to be wheeled into an old, abandon Freddy's location. The hospital staff do so not really knowing why but looking at the state of Will here he is probably insane to some measures. When he is wheeled into the Freddy's location his body literally explodes. Now some parts of his soul go to purgatory/UCN, and other parts posses the computer parts, later to be scanned and reused to create the vr title. That is most likeley how he posseses the game but we can't really know for sure

I have a head canon that the brothers and Nero use real life styles of Sword arts based on the weapons they use and it also reflects somewhat on the boss fights. Dante = Liechtenauer or German Fencing, this style is aggressive, attacks are both used for offense and defense, unusual from other Longsword styles, Liechtenauer uses mostly Slashes and Cuts, its main Philosophy is Momentum (Before) is king if you lose the momentum to the enemy you would lose so take it quickly and avoid reacting (After) *Interesting note: it was supposedly a secret style passed down by its founder Johannes Liechtenauer so instead of the typical of leaving his students notes from his lectures he instead gave them a Poem called the Zettel which contains hints on his teachings. (Kind of fitting Dante studies a style that he can turn to a Rock Song if he likes, not to mention Liechtenauer has some attacks that looks like the practioner is styling on the enemy fencer some of which are intentional, a perfect example of this is a mover where the attacker presses the Pummel of the sword on the hands of the enemy as he slashes upwards while you slash downwards towards his arm or torso.) Vergil = Yagyu Shinkagen Ryu, this style is the inverse of most Kenjutsu styles, instead teaching Caution, Quickness and footwork instead of aggression, the School focuses as well on the environment and to use it in fights and to adapt to the weapons of the enemy as much as you study the art of the school. *interesting note: the School was founded by a Buddist Monk named Kamiizumi Nobutsuna. (Kind of ironic the power hungry, socially darwinistic book worm studies and practices the style of steotypically Pacifistic Monks) Nero = Polish Style Saber combat, its likely that the Red Queen is just a stylised Anime Saber based on how it was used in 4, Polish saber uses mostly Cuts and Leans even more so than most saber styles, its aggression was noted as a "Hellish Cut" by German Masters and was famously used by the Winged Hussars which as the name suggests had wings on their sadles to intimidate enemies. (Also its noted in the web as not protecting the hands much lol) *interesting note: this style is mostly lost due tonthe turbulent history of Poland, much of it is reconstructed using other arts like German, Turkish, Turkic/Steppe and Hungarian styles.
