dmc34 I agree dude. I think that this "reboot" is supposed to be an alternate timeline type thing now. Even if it was, I didn't hate the game that much once I played it. The gameplay was fluid, and felt very responsive and fun, and I loved the references to past Devil May Cry games like, "Let's Rock!", "Alright! This Is My Kind Of Rain!" But, this emo-looking dude calling himself Dante is a HUGE no-go. He's too whiny and takes himself WAY too seriously, and doesn't take enough time to just relax and have fun, I mean, if "Dante" isn't having fun, how are we, the players supposed to have fun, right? I do hope this is just a Trunks-style alternate time. I mean, it's NOT as bad of a game as people say, I'm a hardcore Devil May Cry fan, and I can admit, I felt whiny when I first saw emo Dante. But when I played it, i enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Didn't even mind the white hair wig joke at the beginning much either. Mainly because it's one of the unlockable costumes. But I loved the trophy/achievement names, making past references to past Devil May Cry games. Made me want to get them. This wasn't a BAD game, just a bad Devil May game, that's all. And to any detractors of the game, maybe give it a chance, before you completely say it sucks? Or just skip straight to Devil May Cry 5... I hear that one is AMAZING, and they bring back Nero, one of MY favorite Devil May Cry characters. And, the graphics look awesome too. Wow, seems like capcom have redeemed themselves. About time... seems like in 2019, almost ANYTHING can happen. We got the new Kingdom Hearts game, the new Devil May Cry, a Resident Evil 2 remake, I mean, it's been amazing so far this year. Due to the MASSIVE amounts of complaints about DmC, I am certain that something will be changed about the game. It did prompt Capcom to clarify that DmC is a re-imagining and won't affect the plot elements of the other games. It appears that the lead developer at Ninja Theory modeled the new Dante after himself. Also, since they're a British company, they decided his costume needed a Union Jack on the sleeve. Just how egotistical are these people?

Again, they culd just have changed the name. GIVE IT A NEW NAME. Just like Bayonetta it isnt devil may cry. They culd have given it the name DMC-Nephilim Must Cry. And everything would be ok... Well changing the ingame names, and taking away the parts that piss on the fans. DMC-DMC isnt a bad game on its own. To be honest its rather good... It just isnt a good DMC game.

Grant I don't like Dante's new look either, but the game is now looking very promising. Though since people are probably never going to stop with Dante's design, I have a feeling they'll go back to the original design, but maybe this can wind up starting some kind of DMC side series.

Have you played the new game? I grew up with DMC and I welcomed the change. Making the story darker and grittier has vastly improved the series. Ninja Theory's games have had a better story than most other games in the past few years. Aside from DMC 3, none of the DMC games had a great storyline, they were just an excuse to kill demons. Sure, DMC 3 is still the best in the entire series but I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next in THIS series. Above all, it was fun to play, loved it.

Considering that you are very adamant about female lead characters it's apparent you outta play some more games obviously cause all the ones I mentioned have female leads. @AlphaOmegaSin Just consider this, Ninja Theory has only released three games in their history "Kung Fu Chaos", "Heavenly Sword", and "Enslaved Odyssey to the West" all of which were released with only minor success, and Capcom hands them the keys to the multi-million dollar franchise that is Devil May Cry, I don't know if its just me but the only way I could possibly describe Capcom's decision to do this is Completely and utterly insane

This is 11 years later, but I own Devil May Cry 4, DMC HD Collection and DMC : Devil May Cry on Xbox 360. I can see why people hate this reboot before they debooted back. However, here's a crazy compromise for a fan. Make two separate timelines. Have DMC 1 to DMC 5 onwards be the primary timeline and have DMC : Devil May Cry and its potential sequels that are right now being currently developed as the secondary timeline. If they did that after DMC : Devil May Cry released, and I was the only fan who was excited about it, we could have each DMC entry trade off between original and reboot timelines for game releases. That way both fans are happy.

You did read the "add/modify" part in my answer did you? In regards with "Man of Steel". What were the iconic/core elements in the Superman story? For starters, Superman himself, that he wears a costume with a cape and a big S written on its chest, that he posses abilities no normal human has, that he feels that he needs to protect them and so on and so forth. They even modified it so that it has a more serious tone than the previous. So with this you just further solidified my answer.

You pretty much nailed it. Sure, it is too early to tell. But Ninja Theory is an unproven studio with an unimpressive catalog, and the look of this "Dante" shows that the lead designer has a MASSIVE ego. There's nothing here to eagerly anticipate. The wonder of Dante as a character IS the fact that he can be placed in any time period to some degree. His look is a part of that because he never looked like anyone you could actually run into at a bar...and beat with a single punch.

Anyone expecting a great game out of this is going to be severly disappointed. Hopefully they change dante's look (like they did when DMC 4 was first announced. The reboot was all Capcom. Ninja Theory came up with designs similar to the old Dante, and Capcom said "If we wanted DMC 5, we would have done it ourselves." Capcom pushed Ninja Theory to chance Dante. So we really can't blame Ninja Theory for the change in Dante. I just saw the demo and I am happy with the gameplay. I hope the game turns out good.

@GintaxAlvissforever good idea. the problem is - not much Dante in the game. fans might hate that. also, in dmc4 Dante gave the impression of seasoned demon slaying veteran, which mastered his skills (could work on his social skills ;) ) . that spells trouble for any sequels involving him - he would have to play the mentor role all the time, like he did in dmc4. additional prequel with vergil is probably what would be highly welcome.

Possible reasons for the reboot: DMC 4 sales didn't do well and several fans had commented the DMC series is getting stale. If you're really that disappointed on how Ninja Theory is handling DMC, consider the series dead.

My only concern is the devil trigger. But will he have one? since this is a younger dante before dmc3. His devil power did not awaken until the middle of that game due to being stabbed by vergil, so what now? Capcom did not plan this properly, bet ninja theory will have a devil trigger, and that in turn will make DMC 3 story futile.

@DanteSwag64 Ninja Theory's "excuse" for this game is that it's set in an "alternate universe" cause they realized how PO'd the true fans were.. the excuse behind this "alternate universe" conundrum was based on a few different game mechanics. Dante's "look" is also based off (exhausted so not 100% sure) the lead game artists physical appearance. Slapping "your" face on an icon and force feeding it down a true fans gullet is not what I'm anywhere near interested.

1. In DMC4 you can play as dante but only for missions 15 - 19 IIRC. 2. They could have still kept the devilishly stylish, Smart-ass, sarcastic, guy that everyone who has played the original 3 games (or ever watched the anime) know and love in the reboot ( even though this franchise never even needed one to begin with).

Spoiler alert, Dante's hair turns white in the end . This is a prequel to everything single game. The core Dante is almost exactly the same the original except a little darker. DmC did bring a lot much needed changes that the first 4 needed.

The problem is that Capcom screwed 4 up. They dumbed the difficulty of the game down to attracted new gamers that were previously intimidated by DMC. They forced you to play with a character that you didn't like. Then add puzzles that slowed down the action. It ended up pissing off the DMC community and the game ended up getting a lot of bad press which resulted into a ton of people not buying the game based off reviews.

it's not a reboot....it's before dmc 3 proof for those who don't believe In a recent interview, Capcom unveiled that they knew that there would be negative backlash towards Dante's appearance but pressed forward with this direction in mind. They also explained that the fifth game is not a "reboot", as it was previously believed, but an origin story featuring Dante at a younger age where he is just beginning to accept his unique heritage(with the implication that his black hair is actually dyed)"

@dillypops13 - see the problem is, dante IS devil may cry. hack and slash games are a dime a dozen; we don't really play dmc because it's the only game you can kill stuff in, we play it because we love the characters. the trailer shows you more than enough to let you know they effectively took dante out of the game.

I agree with him completely and let me just say something 1:This is not a different dimension the developers said its a time before DMC2 2: There is nothing to cross here they already made a trailer and seem to be sticking to it and 3: Dante is a bad ass, funny, stylish and nuts for Strawberry Sunday and Pizza...
