Also Eliza was not a witch. She was simply widowed young. See, as the town itself "Mayfield" was beginning to grow into itself Eliza and her husband preferred to build their house off a bit yonder from the village's main peremeter. Now, when her husband died, she just fell to pieces and kept to herself in their small cabin.. she has a friend in the main village part of Mayfield, and as many as hand full of folk"s tried to convince her to move closer near them but she refused and continued to maintain living there until her death. And as the story goes, She remains where she is that lonely grave because she simply passed away right there. Word has it, snow was so darn bad during the days she passed away they just left her be on account they just couldn't' get her to the graveyard.

I have been there! Summer '22. When Loggers cleared the forest in the early days, they named it "a devil of an elbow " because of the difficulty of navigating the logs around the bend. I spent the summer and fall hunting ginseng all over that place. Beware, I got a nightmare infestation of seed ticks so extreme while in those woods that I packed up and left the country for good.

I floated the big piney with my parents mothers day 1982. We went around the bend at devils elbow and there was a tree growing almost all the way across the river, from one bank to the other, with only about 1 foot of space between the tree and the water. Our little jonboat didnt have a motor so we couldn't help but go straight into it. My dad and i could swim like fishes so when we flipped he and i went under and swam across. My mother couldnt swim. She jumped on top of the tree, straddled it, and tied the string from her old orange lifejacket in knots and double knots around the tree trunk. The fishermen who finally rescued her said it was harder to cut through the knots than it was to hold their boat still while they were cutting. The following weekend, my dad and uncle went back out there and cut the tree down. The water under the tree was only 3 feet deep. I havent thought about that in a long time. Thanks for the memory

This is a true story I am going to tell you. My husband was drunk and wanted to go fishing so he took us out to the Mayfield cemetery . My dog got out of car but strangely she jumped right back in. I had a bad feeling so I tutned my car around just incase I needed to leave. My husband took his fishing pole and can . Ot was not to long he comes running back muddy all over,no fishing pole or can. He said lets get out of here ,something pushed me down 3 time and held me. I laughed and said your drunk you probably just fell down . He said BS i know when i am being pushed and held, i am npt stupid! Well as we was leaving I seen a bright light in the sky through the trees then,my car lights went deam i could barely see road I thought it was the alternator going bad. I didnt thonk we would make it home..but my car was fine the next day never replace anything. ??? Idk what happened...that is the back side of Fort Wood military base so maybe the light in sky was a experiment. ?

Well, if you were a medicine person or healer you were considered a witch in most places. Especially the highly religious area's.

Wow. That’s pretty crazy.

Seems like a waste of a trip for only a few minutes at the gravesite of a so called witch - would have liked more backstory on all this

Fair enough. Maybe I’ll do a follow up?

The vandalism had nothing to do with it. Rowdy people doing rowdy things. Teens, drunks, etc. Hunting location with places to camp, and a biker bar ... The local library has some information on her and her daughter.

Not the name of the town. I'm a local. It's the name of a stretch of road. And bend in the river loggers used. There WAS a biker bar.

Does anyone have the title of the music from the beginning to about 4-5 min? I’m loving the sound but I don’t see it in the description 🥲
@BakerOverland2 ай бұрын
There's 4 different songs used in that stretch. 00:00 - 00:35 is 'Chanting Witches' by Jon Björk. 00:36 - 01:15 is 'Lurken and Craven' by Polar Nights. 01:16 - 03:43 is 'Baptized and Buried' by Will Harrison. 03:43 - is 'Spirit of The West' by Roy Williams.

I thought the same thing. No way they were all broken like that perfectly and naturally. The next thing I wondered was if it was mindless vandalism or targeted. If the people that did it were drunk or high I would expect the headstones to be smashed into little pieces. But this was so clean it looks like someone took their time...
