DeVilbiss Finish Line 1.3mm Review & Demo

In my 3rd review on the Finish Line FLG4 670 Spray Gun by DeVilbiss, I am using the 1.3mm fluid tip and using it for clear over base on a Nissan Navara in Black Metallic paint, to save a few dollars we eye matched the colour using black tinter and a little medium flake silver in the Metalux system and Europe 2k clear over the top.
I will take you through gun settings, technique, application and loads more technical info to help get the best finish possible with the FLG4.

Very nice affordable and versatile gun, have one myself. I've been using the 1.5 for epoxy primer and the 1.3 for base and clear . High build primer w/ 1.8. No complaints, gives a nice finish. Thanks for your videos!

I have this FLG4 gun with the 3 fluid tips and it works great, especially for smaller pieces like motorcycle fairings. Gun works great with primer, basecoats and clearcoats and 2k finish coats. The most trouble I had was with one particular clear coat that needed a faster reducer and more of it. Nice video, thanks

I've done a couple paint jobs with this gun and got excellent results. Did a black bc/cc and laid the clear very smooth it didn't even need a cut and buff.

Same here. It's all in the fine tuning. I get very nice tight finish that has no need for polish too. Very happy with it. Wish I could post photos here.

HI again. I bought a Devilbiss spray gun based on one of your vids. What I did not know about it is it has a consumable part that once I used the gun 10 times it is now needing replaced. At $30 dollars to replace the packing. Buy 3 at a time only. But your vid didn't go into the packing or that I needed to spend more money later once I coughed up the $250.00 initially. An FLG4 Finish line. I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for the recommendation. I just wished I'd known about spending more money and having issues with the packing materials they used inside the thing.

I just bought the flg4 and the transition from industrial painting to the automotive paint was smooth. I used the 1.8 for primer and loved the way it handled. Although I did reduce the primer to more of a sealant volume. The 1.3 was great for base and clear. Can't wait to try some of their higher end guns. What kind of cup would you suggest for this gun?

I ve been finding that e bay is way more dough for a gun than i can get locally. lucky here for a change. but you pay less for shipping than i do haha. good vid of course still dont have the dough for the pro lite but i can keep working up to it. might be a silly compared to some of your other guns how does the flg compare.

I have the conventional cap, but I never used it. I sprayed Spies-Hecker 2K primer at %10 reduced. I didn't have any problems with it so I was surprised on your video using the primer. There is a 2.2mm cap available that should remedy issues with thicker primers.

Carl Heath The temperature does play a big part in it and on a colder day it would come up quite a bit, plus the setup of the air cap.

Barry Jones Big difference mate, in Australia the FLG5 is called a SGK and I now have one its way better than the 4 in my opinion, review coming soon.

Depends on the size of the metallic but unless you are going with flakes then anything from 1.2mm to 1.3mm or 1.4mm

Im going to buy the Devilbiss Gti Pro, can get 1 here in South Africa for 400$, i see u work hard and fast mate, really fast, here in SA we use the African people to do all the prep for us, and pay them 20$ a day..lol

It's the air cap, the FLG is HVLP so goes through more air and is a bit harder to get a good finish, SGK says HVLP on the box but to me it's not a true HVLP like the flg. You'll get less orange peel with the SGK.

Yes the SGK will do it all apart from primer. But great for base clear and 2k.

Евгений Б All of those guns are great but I have just bought the DeVilbiss SGK-600BV 1.4mm also known as the FLG5 in some parts of the world and it is half the price but just as good in my opinion, see if you can get one of them.

I am newer to painting (less than 2 yrs) and I own a LPH 400. I had to buy the lvb (purple) air cap to help control mottling. It is a different animal from what I've heard as it requires a significant less psi for base. I really wish I got the GTI pro (techna) instead. It will be my next gun and I'll retire the lph400 to my sealer or clear gun. Just my $.02

I like the gti pro lite best with te20 but te10 is good if you don't have a big compressor.

Should be, I won't go and say 100% it will but I'd imagine so. Also be careful of water coming out the lines, buy a decent water trap and filter.
