This band is like a mix of old school Nocturnal Bloodlust and Dir En Grey.

I feel so weird but at the same time it's funny how everyone calles this song new.speak while I read it as news.peak the first time I saw it. I think it's a really cool play with words that makes total sense, just funny how no-one else seems to go for the news.peak 'pronunciation'. Awesome review! Thank you :)

It's good but too short, especially with that quiet break thrown in. Makes me wonder if this will be an intro type of track. Either way they're still killing it, just not as satisfying as past singles.

I don't understand why anyone would call this band visual kei. One of the premeire visual kei bands was Versailles. They played a sort of symphonic neoclassical goth metal and dressed in 18th century European style costumes. About the only thing they have in common with Deviloof is they use makeup and hair coloring. I guess visual kei is/was more of a fashion movement and subculture than a musical style.

I've been listening to visual kei for more than 10 years, it actually involves many musical styles, from happy poppy sounding to brutal stuff like this. The visual kei thing started thanks to hide's hair style, btw (guitarist of x-japan)

Visual kei has several different styles

Versailles was def not a "premiere" VK band and it wasn't "invented" by X Japan or their guitarist Hide (they only provided the name for the movement). It grew out of japan's underground Live house scene during the 80s, with proto-VK bands such as Madame Edwarda, Seikima II, D'erlanger, Boowy and Buck-Tick. All groups who had played vastly different musical styles. It's a fusion of many different influences, from Hardcore to Metal to Post-Punk/New Wave. Visual kei may have had a specific sound and image in the 90s, since bands like Luna Sea, Kuroyume or Penicillin were quiet similar, but Neo Visual kei that exists since the turn of the millenium is not really a genre or restricted to a specific style at all. You could make industrial, folk rock, Metal or play Pop Rock and still be considered Visual kei if your band or project involves costumes and make-up, participation in typical VK events and plays at typical VK livehouses. Theese are the kind of characteristics that define VK bands mostly, since the VK scene exists fairly seperated from the "regular" japanese music and alternative scene, it even has its own type of in-group speech and lingo and cultural signifiers, such as furitsuke (hand choreographies and dance moves during concerts). Deviloof's members all came from non-VK Metal bands, but Deviloof as a band fits all of these criteria, so they are VK.
