I would also suggest longstalk holly as another great, underutilized broadleaf evergreen.

Both great plants and definitely hardier then people think.

I think so too!

Amazing! We both grow all kinds of plants we're not suppose to be able to grow! Even though Illicium naturally grows in moist conditions they can be pretty drought resistant too. I ordered 3 1 gallon Illicium bareroot (soil removed) last year from a guy in North Carolina and the Canadian border people held it for 2 months! 2 months in a box with 0 water. I was actually able to nurse 1 back to life and now it's growing great! Tough tough plants! Thanks for sharing!

Great video. I have a devilwood tree but its leaves are much more narrow than yours. Is that Florida Sunshine bush shaded from winter sun scald?

Thanks for watching! It's sort of shaded but still gets morning sun

I'm in Indiana zone 6 and am very interested in finding what pushes the envelope of my grow zone :) I'd love to try these

They're super neat plants! I just wish they were more available. Thanks for watching!

Can I ask where you bought these? Illicium cultivars seem reasonably available via mail order, but I haven't seen a good source for devilwood anywhere (maybe partially because the internet doesn't seem to agree on its proper latin name?).

I got the devilwood from mailordernatives.com. The illicium came from a garden center here in Cincinnati
