That missed kick return he had against the Giants on primetime is burned into my memory

A pet peeve of mine is when people only talk about his 20 returns and never bring up the 200 returns he had for major gains, even if he didn't end up in the endzone. Then he had more called back. I'm so grateful to have been able to watch this player growing up.

The near misses. The call baccs. You HAD to watch every return..... In the Hall of Fame of course Urlacher will be chasing after Hester on return but someone like Larry Allen will be out there trying to blocc for Hester to score. Sayers would blocc for Hester as well

It wasn't even his TDs and long runs he made that truly made him a legend, it was the fact that teams had to kick away from him, it was the fact that he literally changed the rules on returning the ball...It was the psychological aspect of the game and the way other teams had to course correct because of him.

No matter what team you were on when Devin Hester was kicked the ball, you paid attention. It was amazing to watch him. Hester was the first to state that he would let the incoming kickoff team determine his running strategy. He would look for who over-committed, and let the play evolve in front of him while improvising his running lanes at the same time. Dude was next level.

Just started watching this. Another initial memory is October ‘07 Va Minnesota at Soldier Field. It ended up being Hester vs the great rookie, Adrian Petersen. Hester brought back a punt for 90 plus yards and Petersen went nuts as well. In my mind, it was HOF vs HOF. Much respect, Mr. Hester
