Making anything sound good out of the Albert Hall is nigh on a miracle. They've been trying to fix the acoustics since just after the very first concert there in 1872. It's the rotunda form that causes dead spots and other distortions.
@neilomac4 жыл бұрын
Probably helped that the only live mics on the stage would've probably been for vocals, crowd mics and the drum kit - pretty sure they'd have everything else running direct with Axe-FX units and whatnot.

When Devin's screaming he's screaming in tune. You can hear the note he's screaming as well as the articulated words coming out of his mouth. He's got his vocals down... and his song writing skills and his guitar skills, production skills etc... He's just one extremely creative guy who perfected "The Wall of Sound" style.

Love that you noticed the way he looks at and talks to his audience. I’ve seen him live a few times, and I think it’s confidence, but also understanding and gratitude. There’s playfulness and love there, I think it has to do with maturity gained over the course of his own journey. It’s part of what makes him beloved and a legend in the metal community.

Totally agree. Saw him in Denmark some years ago in a smallish venue, and after the concert we were about 30 people standing around talking. And then Devin and all of the band members came out and just said hello to everybody, and had a little talk and a photo taken if that was your thing. Very relaxed and down to earth all of them. And if my memory serves me right they all spend about 45 minutes doing these very informal meet and greet. Myself I just thanked Devin for a great concert experience, and he said "thank you for saying that". And he seemed to really mean it.

The best way to listen and understand metal style vocals is to think of vocals like brush strokes. They are painting a picture. Pain sounds like pain. Anger like anger, love like love, etc. Devin is one of the best at this.

IIRC this is a love song to his wife who he has been with since he was 19. She has supported him and put up with him throughout his trials and tribulations......and consistent and constant absence. He screams as his pain and his love to her. I get it. Hubby in the RAAF has done a couple of 6 month deployments into some pretty dangerous areas, often away for work, he just left today for an urgent posting in another state in a a remote location. He comes home at the end of the year to help us pack and move. We don't know when we're moving yet because our moving process can't start until his has finalised, and it has been complicated by Covid. So I don't know where we will be living next year, when we will be moving, the first place we see the area of the country we'll move to will be the day we move there. On top of that winding up my work which is pretty heavy on is own, studying law, find my daughter a new school, care for her with daddy gone, replace our car (ours can't cope in the outback), adjusting to living as like a single mum again (not quite I know, but I have to manage him too), and everything else. At lease in the military they can have bad days. I couldn't imagine touring as a musician - always having to be happy and smile for everyone, meet every press conference and be happy and answer every question perfectly, be immune to jetlag, etc. Fark that.

He goes soo high here,that he is on that thin thin red line of what is humanly possible to do,explained by a few vocal coaches allready. And how long he stayed up there.......beyond mindblowing! And that guitar is his own build,his own design. Insanely dedicated guy,who is a passionate guitar nerd,and not slightly worried on admitting it. Watch a few of his interviews about him and his guitars,and you will understand just how complicated,unique his guitars really are. Amazing stuff!
