I enjoyed this because it shows what a bad conversion looks like and how much thought should go into the layout. It could have been super. Its only saving grace is the quality of the work - good builders ! Can't stop thinking about doing the "big shop" and unloading from car to kitchen...
@coolcpa33213 жыл бұрын
All actions have an equal and opposite reaction. For each load into the kitchen, there's an equivalent (dirty) load out to the garbage bins. Can you imagine carrying garbage through your living room, down the stairs, and through your dining room? This woman has the taste and sense of an earthworm.
@mollymorgan86523 жыл бұрын
The sad part is that she says she spent a year thinking about the flow of the house, to get it right. I can't imagine at all what could possibly have crossed her mind. Not only did she not think about the trudge to the kitchen with the groceries and out with the trash, but she didn't think about the flow within spaces like the living room, dining room, or bathroom. I guarantee no one has taken many meals down the stairs to that dining table shoved under the stairs. Honestly, the good thing is that with the bathroom fixtures plumbed next to that ridiculous window that should be an entrance, it might not be too hard for a future owner to swtich the kitchen and living room with the bedroom and master bath, and put in a large glazed entrance into the new kitchen. I think the desperate need she expressed in the beginning to be totally original really tripped her up. Sure, don't cut-and-paste replicate everything you saw in a magazine, but don't reject a good comprehensive concept because it's been done before, either. Sometimes the things you come up with aren't innovative; they were rejected for a reason. Good builders, though!

Pity she wasn't convinced to make some changes. Regardless of the many negative comments, compare this renovation/restoration to many others. This had a budget, a plan, and tradesmen from the beginning. Most lacked either a good budger, a good plan, and tradesmen and as a result, the people had great difficulty in finishing their projects. This did not. However, the female "planner" did not take into consideration the integrity and integration of the internal and external structures. Sadly, as a result, everything is her way or no way = messy way. Regardless of George's opinion of "stunning", I would not live there even if it was given to me mainly because too much of the original house has gone. Although, this Barn was absolutely beautiful space, my personal opinion is that the character of the original building was lost. Is completely unfortunate that two hundred-year-old beams were thrown to the side as if they were rubbish and burned. The only absolute thing that I can say is thank God that I'm not married to that woman, you can clearly see who wears the pants in that relationship.

That last comment went right over Clares head "hubby..."I was consulted on lots of things" (says he trying to think of something) Clare says "I used to drag you around Leeds trying to get you to look at things" hubby "yes you would say would I like this or this" as she had obviously made the decision so he could choose between what she had already decided on... I felt so sorry for Martin. He gave a up a job he loved only to find he was superfluous in the scheme of things. On the other hand this was wholly Clares project. Her families home, so her project thinks she...I mean her comment at the start "I married a gargoyle.... I should stick you on the end of the bed!!"...not said with a smile but seriously...nasty I thought, mean!! Did you see the embarrassed look on poor Martins face as he turned away from the cameras. The floors were all tiled (?slate), despite the underfloor heating...a cold look...no throw rugs anywhere and I thought the speckly brown tiles would have bought out the timbers and walls rather than the black/grey ones she chose. Even her sons room...nothing to make it look cosy. It came in under budget due to the accountant...she was taking credit right down the line....I didnt hear one "thanks to Mum and Dad, it was really lovely of them to give us a free home"...to be honest Clare came across as a snob...and Martins gone scurrying back to the crisps and chocolate. You hit the nail right on the head George when you said "its a city house dragged into the country" Sorry no tick on this one the sad and bossy atmosphere far overshadowed the barn work.

We can't know what this couple is really like, away from the cameras and director trying to up the drama ... but this is the very first episode where I wanted the couple to break up.

She made poor design decisions, after apparently spending a year on it. Plus she’s the sort that won’t ever say she was wrong, and she’s the best, it’s all “my window”.

More historic buildings should be listed to stop selfish people ripping out the original. Many unforgivable 'criminal' decisions were made on this build. Shame on her.

Yuck! She took away all the good stuff. She should have just built a new home.
