I use to love watching this from the crane on the East side of 5 basin and i remember the black guy drinking in the pubs around Devonport with a fellow gun crew member called Dave Cotton.

Saw the race a couple or 3 years ago at HMNB Portsmouth on a Navy Open Day, just 2 teams running.

I hate that they quit doing Field Gun, there was something quintessentially British about it.

It is still run at Navy Days in HMNB Portsmouth, just not televised any more :)
