I joined the mob in 85. First ship intrepid 86/88. Then nelson and London. It was a great time. The royal navy is no more. The politicians saw to that. And not one of the senior officers who signed off on the cuts, resigned over it. No, they all went to the boards of the defence companies. These new frigates there building along the road from me ( I'm glasweigen) are a waste of time. No real attack weapons. Point defence mostly. And this bullshit about being fitted for but not carrying certain weapon systems is another cost cutting exercise. Just like when the type 23s were sharing harpoon. It's a fucking embarrassment.

How He-Man would start a Navy radio call "I am Alpha Delta Alpha Mike (Adam), Prince of Eternia and defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull. This is Charlie Romeo India November Golf Echo Romeo (Cringer), my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said: 'By the Power of Grayskull! I HAVE FULL POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!' Cringer became the mighty Battle Cat, and I became... He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe!"

It is easy to see just how many savings, in manpower alone, have been achieved by computerisation and other technological advances, since this film was made.

The social life as a Marine Engineer Officer when I was in the British Merchant Navy took a lot of beating especialy in the Antipodes. We worked hard and played hard. There wasn't much we didn't repair or service ourselves, though our boilersuits never were pristine white long like those nor did we wear white shirts and ties in the ER. We didn't have a cast of thousands either. Five Engineer officers, cadet or Junior Engineer and 3 stokers ( depending on the ship), no mechanics. Still had stewerd service in the saloon ( Officers Mess) plus they looked after our cabins. Ships built in th late 1970's and onwards had en-suite cabins for officers and ratings sometimes shared en-suite between two men. The worn engine mounting on the chopper if left would lead to fatigue of various components and airframe. I hope they changed all of them.

Its funny how these vids always promote the Baddie Russians listening in yet we are doing the exact same if not worse? 23 years in this lot I think I have earned the right to comment like this.

Now, the Australian Army, provably like the British, have sent most of these trades to corporations to do. Would have been better off from efficiency and overall expenditure to keep it in the military.

Painful to watch. Some green officer who’s knows nothing interfacing between techs and senior officers who’ve seen it all before. And the only ones who don’t realise, the junior officers. Bless, I bet they’d cringe if they looked back at it now,

I was there as a service brat in the 70’s. Father was a pilot on F4 Phantoms on 31 Sqn. As a kid into aircraft this was a dream childhood. I do remember the threat of the Cold War being very real though and every time there was an unannounced exercise we were never quite sure if this was the real deal.

Those old fashioned starting System on the bucs and the unique strange Front wheel of the phants.... Old fashioned and strange.... Today every US carrier is decades ahead in Technology. And even UKs VSTOL F-35 are much better in Everything. An interesting movie from an old Analogue age though. 👍
